More realistic draft

Recommended Posts

Taking into account the retirement of costa and the interest the colts have shown here is what I think is more realistic to happen without trades.

59 S Deone Bucannon

90 C Weston Richburg

166 RB Dri Archer

203 CB Dontae Johnson

232 DE Aaron Lynch

Now at 59 Brooks was available and a few others but I tried to base my decisions on what I believe the colts would do.

Another mock with an overreaction to the Costa retirement. If you really think we're taking a Center that high

:loco:

By no means is this what I want to happen it just seems the way things usually go this is whats more likely to happen. I actually would still love to see an all defensive draft

It's likely this changes nothing. A rookie Center, regardless of how highly he's rated as a prospect, is still a rookie. You never draft a center to be an immediate center, unless there are no other options. Holmes is essentially a red shirt, but he still has a year worth of mental experience, training camp, practices, reps, and weight room work.

Center isn't a plug and play position, that's why it's rarely drafter early.

Dontae Johnson in the 6th is realistic?  I don't see Lynch there in the 7th either. This draft doesn't seem very realistic to me.

I would love to get Bucannon,Johnson, Archer and Lynch though. I think they go in that order and all probably before we pick in the 5th with the exception of Lynch he will probably still be there.

Yeah, no way Ward falls to us. I would be fine with Bucannon.

Why would we consider a Running Back, with Trent Richardson, Vic Ballard and Ahmad Bradshaw on our roster? Do we really need another one?

I was looking more at his kick return abilities

I like:

59 S Lamarcus Joyner - a hunch that Grigs likes this guy.
90 OG Dakota Dozier - enables Donald Thomas to theoretically back up C (while starting at LG).
166 CB Andre Hal - best remaining CB, though I'd like to get one earlier...
203 S Alden Darby - I may be alone in this, but we need more than one S.
232 NT Zach Kerr - more talent to back up Chapman.

Realistically, I see S, CB, and OG as the three big needs.  Grigs will trade to fill them better.  Maybe something like this:

59 S Lamarcus Joyner
70ish (Grigs trades next year's 2nd) - OL Billy Turner.
90 CB Pierre Desir.

166 NT Ryan Carrethers
203 S Alden Darby -
232 OLB Derrell Johnson

I am with you I would be very happy with either of those drafts and think your player rankings are much more realistic than most mock drafts I have seen.

Obviously I would prefer the one with the trade that gets us an extra pick and a better CB. Out of all the picks I think we could do better than Hal at 166.

There are a couple of guys I am high on and would like Dontae Johnson and Trai Turner  but you can't have everyone.

I would have to look at Bucannon if he was still there at 59. I am higher on him than most. I wouldn't be surprised if he were the 3rd S off the board and long gone at 59. I like Joyner a lot despite his size he is a playmaker and think he will continue to be.

I like Dontae and Trai too.  They are both 4th rounders IMHO.  However, I wouldn't mind Trai in the 3rd, as he has more physical talent than the OGs that could conceivably fall to us in the 3rd (Dozier, Cyril R., etc.)  But, I'm particularly low on Bucannon.  I see him as part of a dying class of SS - the big hitter who is weak in coverage.  (He'll draw penalties until he shies away from the big hit, at which point he'll be a S that can't cover or tackle.)  He certainly is a great athlete (fast and strong), and maybe I'm just not acknowledging his potential in coverage.  But I think we primarily need to add to our coverage skills at S, and our 2nd rounder is too valuable to gamble on a player who might be Landry Jr.

I think you and I are on the same page as how we would like to see the draft play out. I hope Grigs is there with us. Bucannon is a missile doesn't miss his target as much as Landry at least not a WSU. I don't get the weak in coverage idea everyone has on him he had 6 int's last year and 15 for his career. I think he is gone by 59 anyway.

You could be right.  Every year there are pre-draft criticisms of players that prove to be very wrong - like Andrew Luck's lack of elite arm strength (thank you Phil Simms!).

It is hard to tell until they hit the league then there are so many variables what system? what coach? I watch a lot of West Coast ball and have been impressed with Bucannon think he is easily the best S west of the Mississippi and he can play either FS or SS in my opinion I really like the guy think whoever gets him is getting a future star. I would've bet and still will on Trent too so we will see.

Just can't tell until they hit the league. Bucannon sure put up impressive numbers at the combine
