Its sad that it isn't celebrated nationally. Most people i talk to, especially young ones have no idea the significance of April 19th 1775. A proud day in our nations history.

I did an internship (like 20 years ago now) at the Chamber of Commerce in Concord, MA... part of my desk, which was actually a bar at a tavern converted to office space, was constructed from the original Old North Bridge. I gave more walking tours than I care to remember. Really neat stuff though, if you're a history/war buff.

Yeah I've often felt that shouldn't be just a Mass holiday. Even if not a national holiday at least recognize it because it's history.

I mean look- Michelle Bachman thought the first shot heard around the world was in NH and Sarah Palin thought Paul Revere's ride was to warn the British, not the Colonists. LOL.

BTW The Boston Marathon drew one million people- very large. And an American won the men's for the first time in years.

I know where that is... but isn't the North Bridge mostly original abeit restored?

I used to canoe on the Concord River.

I still kayak on the Concord, as well as on the Nashua.

The area around the Old Manse is beautiful.

Concord is my favorite town in America, despite the traffic.

Politicians can say some of the dumbest things.

I'm still laughing at Obama saying that he had visited 57 states and still had one to go.  haha

No, the one that's there today is a replica. From Wiki:

The original North Bridge was dismantled in 1793 by the town of Concord because its use as a bridge had become impractical; a new bridge was erected a few hundred yards away.[2] The bridge was rebuilt multiple times in 1875, 1889, and 1909. The current replica was built in 1956[3] and was based on drawings of the bridge built in the 1760s. The bridge was restored in 2005.[4]

This is the building where the office was located, by the way. It's called Wright's Tavern.

it was built in 1747 and is where the Minutemen assembled the morning of April 19th. I stopped by there fairly recently to poke my head in but there's now an architect's office there. The folks I knew from the Chamber have all moved on.

Ah yes- the wright Tavern. I lived in Lexington MA for 17 years. As a teenager I would sit under the minuteman statue drinking on Friday Nites. Never did make it to the Belfry which I heard had a lot going on in there :>

Oh, that little skirmish. The one where we sent over our 3rd stringers......I remember it now......you actually celebrate that?

Perhaps you should have sent in the starters as we became the greatest country in the world soon thereafter. So yeah, lots to celebrate here but we always have a soft spot for our brethren over the pond.

Exactly. Scrubs bested by the same group of boys who'd later help save some Luftwaffe-pummeled dumpster of an island.   ;)

if not for the US all of Europe would be speaking German

And we'd be all alone with no European trading partners. Not to mention a following German invasion of the U.S. was not out of the question technically. Losing Europe would have been bad all around.

Anyway, you did bring us Joey.

Good responses friends.

AM, get with the programme.

PS - got the nod to move to Houston for work. Thinking it over.

I am trying but I never can quite follow you. I need to brush up on my British sense of humor and overall quirkiness. I assure though I have all love for the Queen.

You haven't been banned in Texas yet?

That's right... it's outlaw country. You'll be OK.

Houston's got good areas and bad areas like most American cities... if you can handle the summers it's not a bad place to be. Try the brisket when you can. It's delectably scrumptious.
