Hopefully Walden steps it up a notch as well. We are at a point where coaches have their guys it is time for it to come together not sure we can hope for much from Adongo but who knows. Someone has to help Mathis.

Someone better help Mathis he'll be getting a LOT of attention coming off his 19.5 sacks last season,,,,,,,,,,,Adongo may step it up and be a real goos player don't be surprised,,,,,,,,,,,Also he has the physical tools he I think jiust needs a little more playing time and he'll be a real find of Grigsom's.

I think werner will take a jump this year. I don't really ever see him as an every down OLB but I think they will use him in ways that he can put some pressure on in situations.

Really? You've already inferred that a rookie playing a brand new position injured for nearly half the year can't be an every down olb?

I think Werner could be a someone who shows quite a bit of improvement. I feel like Ryan Grigson spoke pretty candidly about him in a press conference at the end of the year when he basically said the kid needs to get bigger and stronger if he is going to contribute. I think that if he can start using his hands effectively, build a decent stable of rushing moves, and bulks up a bit he can be difficult to deal with. I like the kid's attitude. Him and Adongo both seem to have a very humble blue collar approach to the game, which seems to be what the personnel and coaching staffs prefer in their developmental players over the "show stopper" prospect.

Two topics: McNary.

I was also impressed with Jeris Pendleton's athleticism for his size.(334) I hope he sticks.

Colts are high on McNary as well. This was before they signed D'qwell Jackson though.

Stephen Holder on twitter

Random tidbit: One guy Colts very high on for 2014 is LB Josh McNary. Possible starter inside, next to Jerrell Freeman. Seriously.

I personally like how he plays, plays 100mph the whole time he is on the field and can rush the passer from anywhere along the defense. A pretty good tackler in space as well

Yep, I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong. So if Werner becomes an every down starter in a couple of years I'll admit I was wrong. But, my opinion as of right now is that Werner is going to be a situational player.

What situation would that be?

The entire front seven are basically situational players the way they're rotated in. No one is an every down starter anymore, due to situations or keeping them fresh.

If Werner comes in on pass plays because he's good at putting pressure on the QB - I'd be good with that.

Where is Caesar Rayford now? I know we traded him last year but is he a FA now.

He was a beast for us last year.

Hail Caesar!

I loved his attitude, he sounded like a great guy. But he's no beast. One trick pony who gets exposed very fast.

There's a reason why Dallas released him.

Ya, me too. I don't think Werner is bad, I just think that he's going to be a player whose skill set is more in line with a 4-3 DE. So, I think that he's a player that the defensive coaches will find ways to put him on the field in various alignments where he could be rushing from stand up, hand down or stunting him from various locations.

Right. It was pretty obvious that he was learning the position last year. At least they're giving him a fair shot, unlike Hughes.

Ya, I didn't like Hughes and I thought that it was best that he go. For his sake and the Colts sake. Sometimes a change of scenery is what a player needs to get back on track. IDK what it was here but Jerry just didn't seem to fit in.

Hughes fit in and played quite well his 1st year in the D. And would stll be in his Rookie contract for 2014.

And we got Walden for twice the $$$. What a --------!

Different players, but I get what you're saying. Had to be something going on there that we don't know about.

I'm not going to disagree with  you on his play because I didn't see every game. However, my recollection of when I did see him on the field I wasn't impressed. That's my opinion

totally agree. Mental attitude i`m sure weighed heavy on several of their roster choices that i thought were BAD. Oh well.

The Leaders get Hired & Fired on how well they get this stuff right.

Getting guys to Consistently give it all and play for the Team is a Head Coaches biggest challenge.

IMO, Chuck is doing mighty good at that!

And I BELIEVE in the job Grigson and all have done fixing our roster. We have MANY Young, solid looking guys developing in OUR system.

I definitely see things being built for long term success.

We have been among the League Leaders in Injuries for 3+ years, let us hope that changes, it would sure help.

yip. He wasn`t flashy, just very steady. And Mathis and Freeney got many more opps in PR situations.

And he ended up with 1 less sack than the $14M ALL-OUT Pass Rush Specialist. Not bad for a 23 year old.

A simple point for this season.

IF, and i see it happening, we get Really Good at stuffing the Run on 1st down, EVERYBODY will be getting more Pressure on the QB! :highfive:  And the Press Coverage Shines!

It is a Defense Changer. lol

Not going to disagree with you on the part about stopping the run on 1st down. That is one area that I think Grigson has definitely tried to address with his personnel decisions. We have some guys that can get after the QB both on the outside and on the interior.

We've had this argument before. I know you aren't a Freeney fan. I was. I've made my opinion known about how I felt about Freeney before. No way could you give Hughes snaps over either Freeney or Mathis. As I've said before, Freeney had every pass rush move under the sun and teams had to game plan for him. He atleast made the defense account for him on every passing situation. I'll admit he didn't stop the run. But the kind of dynamic pass rushing skills that Freeney had is something that only a couple of other players in the league had. Mathis was the same way and I'll definitely give Robert props on his transition to the Rush LB position. Hughes may have had a nice year in Buffalo but his overall skills were no where near Mathis's skills as both a pass rusher and an overall LB

I believe Werner will be a much improved player this season, as he gets more comfortable and has a better understanding of the playbook, he want have to think as much, this alone should make him a step quicker as he will be able to just play ball and not have to think so much about what he's doing. This season Werner will show why Grigson made him a 1st round choice.I believe he can be a very good all around linebacker, I expect a big season from Werner.

I think Adongo has unique physical ability,a rare combination of power and speed, if he could develop some pass rushing moves and the understanding of how to be a pass rusher in the NFL, with his physical skills he could be a real weapon as a pass rush specialist. I know with his limited experience in football, this is a long shot, but there is no denying that he has the potential to be something really special. He is very eager to learn and very coachable, its just a matter of developing pass rushing moves. here's to hoping the staff can coach him up to speed, and turn him loose "GO COLTS"

He don't have to be an every down LB to be an effective pass rusher. There are very few every down linebackers in the league right now.

Freeney's age and injuries caught him his last 3 years with the Colts. Mathis out played him for those 3 years. He was a fantastic pass rusher but as you said, he couldn't stop the run or the pass for that matter.
