Colts Tryout Deion Branch

98 posts in this topic

The Indianapolis Colts worked out former New England Patriots wide receiver Deion Branch, according to a league source.

The former Super Bowl XXXIX Most Valuable Player wasn't immediately signed to a contract. The Colts also auditioned former Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins running back Shaun Draughn and wide receiver Ty West.

Branch, 34, last played for the Patriots last season, catching 16 passes for 145 yards and no touchdowns.

Branch is a former Patriots second-round draft pick from Louisville who has caught 518 career passes for 6,644 yards and 39 touchdowns.

Branch has also played for the Seattle Seahawks.

During the Feb. 6, 2005 Super Bowl, Branch caught 11 passes for 133 yards to tie Jerry Rice and Dan Ross' Super Bowl reception record.

This could be interesting if Grigs & Irsay sign this guy. More potential receivers for the depth chart and more receivers to take the weight off of TY and Fleener to make more plays.

I like the idea of bringing in a veteran to be honest...

Yeah, i doubt he[d contribute much, but another veteran presence for a young WR corps can only be a positive IMO.

Branch would be a nice pick up as a 5th wr if he could stay healthy and was in football shape still, reliable set of hands and reliable route runner

Sounds like they're wanting to make a deep playoff push.

Better bring in some linemen.

Well, there is a sign of desperation if there ever was one. That guy is very old and over the hill.  :D

I bet you'd feel better if it meant cutting DHB.

This could mean Brazill's injury is a bit more serious than first thought.

I hope this isn't the case he was really coming along and showed he has play maker ability last week . I hope it's just for depth it would be traumatic another receiver going down in the playoffs and only having and only having 3 WR's left .

I've been saying bring in Branch since Reggie went down...

I was getting ready to say this should please the group of forum members who brought up him up when Reggie went down.

Whoah, woke up from a bad nightmare-

Hasselbeck was handing off the Cedric Benson and throwing to Deion Branch, DHB, Mohamed Massaquoi and Todd Heap!  Oh dear... oh dear... pinch me out of here!!

:D

Well from all accounts Branch is a good character/locker room guy so why not...

Never thought he'd come in & burn it up, just thought he'd be good for 3-4 grabs a game & maybe a few first downs...

Some of the games where the Colts sputtered in the first half, anything could've been helpful...

I'm not against it, in fact I'm fine with it. I just wasn't one of the people who suggested it.

I don't do any trolling. I think this is a fair statement. Who will they try out next, Hines Ward? Isn't TO still available? The motorhome is great. I am currently in Texas working and I will be until after January 1.  :D

Didn't Brazill miss practice today? Anybody a little bit worried that the day Brazill misses practice, we try out Deion Branch?

Yeah so that must be why they brought him in for a workout huh? There's a reason they don't pay fans.

They try out guys every week. I think it has more to do with the feeling towards DHB than it does Brazill.

most fans say things like let's make dhb a cb or don't know who is in the field at any given time or are clueless about assignments.

I am ultra smart and would be a great hire for any franchise

Yeah, because since the Broncos game Colts have had great success with the WR position...

I was not a fan of yours on here to start. But that is changing and I think it is because you remind me of me. Always appreciate sarcasm and narcissistic commentary.

Yes. I have to believe this has more to do with Brazill than it does for DHB. This is tremendously late in the season to bring in guys to replace healthy players. Too much to learn in too short of a time so to my mind it means injury over performance - yes even over DHB.

they should have benched dhb years ago. Branch does nothing to help

Maybe its just incase someone gets injured.  We do have only 4 WR on the roster.

Good point and no doubt the reason. But it's kinda like 5 as Whalen and Luck are so familiar with each other. So you do have a PS player that is 100% ready to go if someone can't play. So 4 on the roster and 1 on the PS.

I like this as a last minute move, I'd really like a veteran WR that knows how to make plays lol.

    • Defensive expectation for Indy in 2016
I guess Denver and Carolina had some pretty crappy offenses with a couple of crappy QBs.
    • Position Depth Comfort Level
I love our QB, I think he stays healthy, love our SPTeams with Vinny/Pat, and like our WR core with TY/Moncrief/Dorsett. Everything else is still shaky. Hopefully our Draft will solidify the O.Line, I am high on Kelly. Our Defense as a whole is shaky period but we can still win 9 or 10 games if they play just Average if Andrew stays healthy.
    • Position Depth Comfort Level
As far as depth goes and ONLY depth NOT starters   QB-D RB-C WR-D TE-C OL-D ILB-C CB-D OLB-D S-C P-A K-A   Our depth is not unlike a lot of teams, A lot of unproven players or players that really have shown they have no business seeing meaningful snaps
    • Colts' Scouts: What they liked about LeRaven Clark....
Its easy to say Clark did not go a round to high knowing we drafted him in the 3rd. For all you or I know however he very well could have went in the 4th however had the Colts not picked him up. Again however I would have waited till the 4th. I think he would have still been around in the 4th. If only drafting an O Lineman based on raw tools meant he was a good O Lineman but alas it don't and it doesn't make it a good idea to pick O Lineman based on raw tools either...Ill take intelligence and fundamentals in the 1st 3 rounds over raw tools (At least as raw as Clark). Now in the 4th or later Ill take O Lineman with raw tools but lacks the basic fundamentals (example lining up in a 3 point stance, Proper hand placement. All correctable things of course).   He wasn't who I would have drafted in the 3rd. I had him as a 4th rounder simply because he was/is so raw. He does have good raw tools to work with of course but O lineman have went later than him that have had BETTER raw tools than him. Khaled Holmes is just the first name that comes to mind who went in the 4th round. Hugh Thornton is another name. Christian Westerman went in the 5th and he has better raw tools that Clark. The truth is we don't know how many of the 32 draft boards made by NFL teams had him as a top 100 pick, Its entirely possible (even likely) that 1 team did not have him in their top 100.  Just because you did and some analysts did don't mean 32 NFL teams did   Do I dislike the pick? Not really. We could have had a better prospect than him however in the 3rd. Hell Ridgeway was a better prospect at another position that WE DID GET than Clark  was at his but fell do to conditioning and injury concerns, I had him as a 2nd rounder who had a shot to go in the 1st minus those concerns
    • Position Depth Comfort Level
It speaks volumes that you only got down to position 5 before my initial reaction was 'oh my God'.   4 position groups where I'm generally happy - including Special Teams and a O-Line that was an apparent weak point last year and has only had a rookie center brought into the starting group. Eek!

Hello my Name is Robin. And i'm from Denmark. even though i've been member on this forum for a long time, and the old one as well. I would like to Introduce myself. I became a Colts fan in 2007, when I watched my first NFL game. My brother introduced me to NFL, the superbowl between Colts & Bears, And as we all know the Bears scored first, so I had to rude for the "underdogs".. and from that day on I was hooked. I've watched every game since, even the primetime games, that starts 2:30 in Denmark, it's a long day working with no sleep but damn its worth it. Can't wait for my next big Colts adventure, when I get to see them playing in London

I have been a fan since 1984 when I became an early teen and really started to understand the game. Colts moved to Indianapolis in 1984 and eventhough we stunk for a while, things obviously got better. We traded for Dickerson in 1987 and won the Division, then we had Harbaugh's magical season in 1995, the Peyton ERA where winning 12 games was a piece of cake + winning a SB in 2006, now the Andrew ERA where we have already had 3 11 win seasons and a deep Playoff run.
