Does Grigson have a Nickname?

At the risk of embarrassing myself by finding out that he's had this nickname for a year and I'm only now finding this out....

 

I noticed last week that someone referred to him as......

 

RG1

 

I must confess, I did a double-take....  and then a triple-take....    and then it dawned on me,  and I really, really like it!!

 

Another poster appears to have hung Griswold on him....   I confess that one goes over my head (as other things do too)....    so this one doesn't work for me....

 

But....   RG1 I think is terrific!    

 

So,   is this new?    Or has this been around for sometime and I've somehow managed not to notice it??

O.K., I'll answer the question.

Yes, it's been around a while, though I haven't heard it bandied about for a while either.

 

My recollection is that it came about sometime in March of 2012 during Luck/RG III debates.

 

I like it also, and am really not fond of Grigswold. I think Grigswold is used condescendingly anyway.

RG1 is too confusing to me. It makes me think of the Redskins QB...I call him Jack Ryan like a espionage specialist who works for the Central Intelligence Agency & speaks in non useful double dialogue that tells you nothing. Like Charlie Brown's cartoon teacher that you never understand no matter how hard you concentrate. Sigh...

The Cup Playoffs are going on but I can't watch 'em, they never show Tigers games around here, and there's no point in watching the Pacers since the Heat are going to win it all again anyway.

A good film starring Samuel L. Jackson & Kevin Spacey actually about the occupation of a police hostage negotiator. Although, Grigs never holds any unsigned agent or draft selection at gun point though. It's still a clever name for him though.

 

 

 

But, GM's do have to convince NFL athletes to sign a cap friendly franchise deal so some manipulation, smooth talk, & persuasion is definitely involved on Grigs part I guess. So, your name for him is relevant I suppose Deathilitis.

I appreciate that NCF. This film also deals with the record industry & the recording studio another obsession of mine as well. I love the dad in this film complaining that his son Guy never turns off the lights. "He never turns off the lights at home why would he turn them off at the store?!" That is so my own father. It's hilarious to me.  A nice genuine love story that develops slowly. A nice change of pace too from typical Hollywood films too.

I may get irritated at Grigs for his cloak & dagger public persona, but it's who he is & that's not gonna change anytime soon. It's like this girl named Alana I had a serious crush on in high school who never gave the time of day. As much as I wanted her to acknowledge my existence, she never did. That never stopped me from trying though. Old habits die hard I guess. Will I still demand detailed answers from Grigs? Yes. Will I ever receive them? Nope. Not without truth serum anyway  Just Kidding! 

 

The real question is if Alana called my help right now would I run to the phone to help her? Ring! Ring! "What's that Alana? I'm be right there. Sit tight okay." We are who we are & time seldom changes anything. Grigs will still be elusive with fans & the media & SW1 will always have a soft spot for Alana...Sigh...Some traditions never fade do they?  I still chuckle at the madness of it all. When my kids were little and we'd go to the games my youngest would always ask what we're going to do when Peyton retires. I never had a good answer except to enjoy it while we can.

I want to thank you for this post because I have been wondering much the same.

 

While I'm not fond of RG1 as I find it confusing given Roger Goodell and Robert Griffin, I do understand why others would like it. 

 

However, the Griswold nickname goes over my head also.  I have seen Grigson called Griswold and Ryan Grigson called Clark W. Grigson, but I can't see any logical connection between Grigson and the character played by Chevy Chase. 

 

When I first saw it, I wondered if it was just a case of someone mixing up names as my husband often does when it comes to Whoppi Goldberg and Goldie Hawn merely because they both have "gold" in their names. 

 

I am hoping that Griswold is not being used as an insulting/derogatory nickname as that is a violation of board rules.

I actually want to see that. We read the book and watched an older movie version of it in one of my English classes a few semesters ago. With the cast in the new movie, I think it could be great!
