Undrafted Rookies/UDFAs/wish lists and *signing updates*

With the CBA reportedly nearly complete, who are some undrafted FAs Polian could/should go after? I remember hearing a lot about Terrence Toliver and how he would be a good undrafted rookie to go after. There is also Mark Herzlich. Who else is there that the Colts should go after?

Love this thread! The Colts make undrafted rookies a big priority of their offseason plans and it will be a very quick paced signing period (just like free agency.) But the Colts promised to make a splash in free agency. I agree with most that the addition of Cofield or Mebane is very likely and I would really like the signing of Quintin Mikell along with one of those two DTs. That would require Kelvin Hayden or Ryan Diem no longer being Colts. I would also see Logan Mankins getting interest from the Colts if he truly becomes a free agent but his price tag most likely will be too hefty. Another name thrown around by bloggers and sports writers is Reggie Bush's name and the Colts being thrown around in the same convo. That aint happening unless Mr. Bush takes a pay-cut!

With all of that free agent talk... the signing of undrafted rookies could determine a lot of what the Colts do in free agency. I could see them signing one saftey such as Jeron Johnson from Boise State or Deandre McDaniel from Clemson which would mean Bullit likely comes back. I love Maehl.. the WR from Oregon to play as a slot in the Colts scheme. Lots of other good named guys out there and the Colts always seem to capitalize on undrafted talent that just wants a chance to prove itself. And would love for a guy like Herzlich to join the Colts roster! The type of guy every organization wants.. Maybe Castonzo can help bring him in! lol

Maehl and Herzlich are high on my "wish list". There's a big kid from New Mexico that plays OT that I wouldn't mind either, his name escapes as of now...

Edit:

Kyle Hix from Texas is who I meant....not New Mexico :rolleyes2:

Burney would be a great pick-up if they decide to cut Hayden.

Also, Jeff Saturday is getting up there in age..

Center from Syracuse - Bartholemew (sp?) - He put up good combine numbers if I remember correctly and is a raw player that could use some time behind a guy like Jeff Saturday.

I would love to see us go after these guys (I went by positional need and kept the rankings by the source rather than going by the player...yeah, not the best method on my part). I want us to bring a number of DBs in to camp to see what they have to offer. Release them if they aren't good and keep them if they are. Same thing goes for DT. I wouldn't mind seeing us bring in another LB, have him play special teams if nothing else. We also need WR depth.

Jerrard Tarrant - S - Georgia Tech

Ryan Bartholomew – C - Syracuse

I also wouldn't mind bringing in Ricardo Lockette to see if he can do KR/PR. Although, it doesn't matter if we had someone who could run a 40-yrd dash in 4.1 flat, if the ST can't block properly!

I wouldn't mind seeing the Colts sign Ian Williams, DT from ND. He won't do much in 2011 because he's coming off an MCL injury but in 2012 he could easily become the Colts starting NT, imagine Mookie ability for an entire game rather than 3 or 4 plays, a quarter of rest and then 3 or 4 more plays. A rotation of Moala, Nevis and Williams would be a formidable interior of the dline.

Jake Kirkpatrick, C, TCU is another player with ability but with a logjam at back-up center/starting center is already pretty deep with Pollack, Richard and McClendon I don't know if the Colts will sign another developmental center project.

I would like to see Williams too, the guy was projected to go in the 5th round, but wouldn't it be just too much having 6 defensive tackles on the active roster.

Apparently, Kirkpatrick is similar to Saturday. However, I think the Colts next starting center after Saturday is already on the roster

We're talking about a camp roster. Plus, Eric Foster, Dan Muir and Antonio Johnson are not under contract at the moment. We have 7 tackles listed on the roster now, I bet we wind up with 9 or 10 in camp (with a 90 man roster), and then the best five will probably make the final 53.

But I don't think he ends up in the top 5 if 2 of those 3 guys you mentioned get signed. Let's look at it this way, Eric Foster and Johnson (or Muir) get signed. Then there's Moala, and a battle between Pressley and Nevis, and Nevis will probably win. The question is: Are the Colts really going to keep 6 guys, and if yes who would win between Pressley and Williams? My answer is no to keeping 6 DTs

I don't think the Colts will re-sign Foster or Mookie (I could be wrong about Mookie) and with coming off a torn MCL I could see practice squad for Williams.

Foster just came off his best season of his career, and even though he's listed as a DT, he could backup for Robert or Dwight. He's definitely worth keeping, and he's cheap.

Foster definately had his best season and it is obvious he should be playing DE though being behind Mathis and Freeney(Hughes as well)makes it difficult.

Mookie needs to be retained as there is no true NT on the roster currently. The differance he makes against the run is obvious and the tandem of him and Moala sure looked sweet at the end of last season.

Undrafted Free Agents signed with the Colts [11:12 pm Monday]:

Rutgers S Joe Lefeged

TCU C Jake Kirkpatrick - Highlight Video via ColtsFan504 ( See Website for link )

Nebraska TE/HB Mike McNeill

Penn State LB Chris Colasanti

It's important to note that none of these movies become "official' until tomorrow, which is, of course, silly seeing as the players and their agents are already on Twitter congratulating each other on the signings.
