So is the OP asking what starters on this team would be starters for the 49ers?

This is a really weird question to present.

This is a really weird question to present.

The Forty Niners, by some, are considered to be the most complete and "deepest" team in the NFL. I think the question is a good one in that it's asking how far are we from being as complete, and do we have any talent that would start for that team. The answers thus far would indicate that we only have a few players that would start on the Forty Niners. This means that we have so much work to do, to be as solid of a team as they are.

I understand that, but I like this team for what it is. I could care less about who would start for the 49ers on this team.

The 49ers are good in their own right that they are a very fast version of the west coast offense. I don't think our players are built like that.

I believe we are more suited as the vertical passing game like the old Raiders style of play.

Thanks Flash for your insightful response. Spot on.

Tonychen you ask the proper followup question. But maybe like this.

What 2012 Colts players can you see Starting in an AFC Championship game in 2 years?

Are/Could be Championship caliber players?

Offense

1) Castonzo at RT (11 sacks, he didn`t look as quick as last year to me)

2) Dwayne Allen

3) C Fleenor

4) Reggie

5) T.Y.

6) Ballard

7) Shipley

8) Ijalana

9) A Luck

So maybe a LT & stud guard away on Offense.

Like many I want to get Sizeable receiver in the System ASAP.

Defense

1) Vontae

2) Redding

3) Chapman

4) Freeman

5) Butler slot

Moala could improve in this D and be Solid

Bethea worries me a little.

That is a lot of holes to fill on D. LOTS of VG Playmakers Needed where we have holes on D!!

What players do you see as being good depth for a Championship caliber Team in 2 years?

Offense

1) L Brazzill

2) Reitz maybe, he still might make a starter????

3) McGlynn kinda ;)

Defense

1) K Connor

2) Fokou

3) J Hughes

4) L Guy

5) J Hickman

6) Mathis

A fair question, but hard to answer because many players change when they move elsewhere.

Tim Jennings had 9 int's this last season. Likely NO one would have said he would be a starter for the Bears before last season. Just sayin....

    • Negative, no. Critical, yes. I never said Pagano was a bad coach. But, Pagano has had 5 years to develop better strategies (granted in concert with the other coaches and players Grigson and the FO provided). I suppose some would try to put all the failures on Grigson, but in my experience with teambuilding, that (the failure of one person) is almost never the case. In fact, I would speculate that, for whatever reason, the lack of a coherent strategic vision for the team resulted in players "trying too hard", getting hurt, and ultimately coming up short of their potential. Part of that under-performance is the lack of development of the mental aspects of the game. Slow starts, mis-matched playcalling, poor clock management are indicators of strategic mental lapses.
    • I think you hit the nail right on the head with your New York and Los Vegas comment. There are a few other artist who fall into that category also. I'm not going to venture to make a list of those artist. Music is so compelling to each individual and effects each one of us differently. Like you said Frank was a little ahead of my time but I can't judge him in the fact if he was good or bad. His career started with the big band era and then ventured into acting where he did have success. Like him or not he was huge in his style.
    • I think we could see Spence at M and Jackson at W to start the season. If someone doesn't step up at M. We could easily run that pair out week 1. We could do a lot worse.   The biggest change we need to make at ILB is speed. That pair gives us that. Rhodes is a guy who could surprise. This will be a position group I'll be keeping a close eye on

    •   Sorry to keep harping on the Irish thing, but did you know the horseshoe has seven points on it?  (The Colts horseshoe, anyway.  Actual shoes for horses depend on the farrier).   Seven is considered a lucky number...  Lucky.  Luck.  I'm telling you, you picked the right team to root for.   7
    •   Don't hold Boston against the Irish.  It's not our fault.    We love our green, which makes Indiana a tearmann.   I love it that you chose to root for an underdog instead of the Pats.  I don't think it's coincidence that you became a fan around the time Luck got drafted to the Colts.  That's providence.     Horseshoe?  Luck?  Four-leaf clover?  Come on.  Hoosier Hospitality has roots in Irish fun-lovery.  If you're lucky enough to be Irish, you're lucky enough!  May the luck of the Irish be with you!
