We need Cincy to win, too

99 posts in this topic

I don't know...maybe personal preference? It just seems like it should wait until next year. I just don't want the media field day that I know it would be.

APPRENTICE VS. THE MASTER, or OLD VS. NEW!!! Or whatever stupid headline they'd come up with.

Fair enough. I have just heard multiple Colts fans now say something to the effect that it is "too soon" for Manning to play the Colts or for Luck to play against Manning. Just haven't discerned any real reason for it as far as the matchup is concerned. I for one would be pumped to see the game, regardless of the media.

Okay so you guys wanna play the #2 defense in the nfl rather then the pats? Really. The reason why I don't wanna play the broncos is because of their corners. They have 4 starting caliber corners. Champ will be on Wayne and we know luck likes to throw to him alot. If your defense holds the saints offense to 7 points til 2 mins left in the 4 then that's amazing.

Who will guard DemaryiusThomas or Eric Decker

They are both 6 ft 3 and 220 and 230

Both NE and Denver are bad matchups for the Colts. However, we already got plastered by the Pats once. Our defense showed no ability to stop the offense. I think it would closer the second time since Luck is no longer turning the ball over like he was earlier in the season, but I still would feel like we would be less likely to win in Foxboro than Mile High. If we play NE, who will defend Wes Welker, Gronk, and Hernandez?

Got to win Sunday befrore we worry about who's next. One game at a time.

We haven't beaten the Ravens yet...

"We" haven't beaten anyone yet and never will.  "We" sit at a desk, typing on a keyboard and have no effective influence on the game.

I don't understand how people don't want us to play Denver. First off, while I think we definitely are much better than we showed against the Pats earlier this season, I think the Pats offense is a terrible match up for our defense with the quick routes. Why would we want to play a team again that blew us out with ease before unless we absolutely had to?

Second, though, and more importantly, how can you not want to see Peyton face the Colts? Yes, it would be a media circus, and I know Peyton will be coming to LOS next year, but this would be in the playoffs. I think the game would be absolutely electric in atmosphere. And to be honest, I think it would affect Peyton more than it would affect Luck or the other Colts players, at least from the standpoint of facing each other. Peyton is human, and I think this would mentally be a big game for him after the Colts chose to go the Luck route this past off-season. It would be interesting to see how he played in response. This would also still be an incredibly tough game for the Colts to win, but I do think we would have a better chance here than against the Pats in Foxboro in mid-January.

However, at this point this is all just talk. The team is by no means guaranteed to beat Baltimore.

I agree 100%

We would lose to either one imo and we have already seen the Colts face the Patriots. So i don't feel like seeing that rerun. The rivalry is over with.

We have not seen the Broncos yet. It would be way more entertaining! Manning vs Colts... Bring it!

Go Houston and Go Colts!

why is people talking about NE and Broncos lol? we havent even won our wild card.

Peyton "history" of 1 and dones was with the colts, lets just wait and see hi shistory with the broncos. Their D is much better so we can only wait and see.

I dont think we matchup against Denver in any possible way. dummervill and miller wont be stopped....and pass D is suspect for our colts...who the heck is going to take on DT and Decker.

and yes i do realize we have faced jared allen, jj watt, clay mathews etc...the thing is all of them have dominated us lol except jared...and all of those teams only had 1 real pass rushing threat, the Broncos have 2.

not that we matchup against NE anyways lol specially in foxborough is just that i think we will proteck Luck much better against NE than D. if NE wants to pressure the QB they need to blitz, which leaves some big play oportunities...the broncos dont have to blitz

If the Colts team was discussing who they would rather face in the second round right now, it would be a problem. We, however, are fans like someone else has already said. This is something fans do-- look ahead to future matchups. Us talking about a possible meeting with the Broncos or Pats isn't going to affect how the Colts play against the Ravens. Their focus is 100% on the Ravens (and if it isn't then they are really in trouble!).

And I don't expect us to win in Denver. I don't think any rational Colts fan would think that. But I do think we have more of a chance, however small, of beating Denver than NE. Talk about Denver's defense, but honestly when we played NE their defense was all over Luck all game long despite being towards the bottom of the barrel ranking wise. That's partly why Luck threw 3 INTs in that game. And outside of Peyton, the NE offense is much more daunting than the Denver offense.

Hey! We don't like that kind of talk! You can't prove that we have no effective influence. We find the harder we type, the better we play. So there.

(BTW, I see you're quoting me. I'll take it as a complement, but I hope you don't think I'm a hater. Er, we mean we hope...)

Im not saying Denvers D is all wordly.. me saying they dont need to blitz is just because they have the talent to bring pressure with 4 man rushes... there are weak points for example i think we could give them fits with our running game which has been better the last weeks. i dont think we would run a lot vs the NE for example.... NE was all over Luck but the OL has played a little bit better and we have taken much more checkdowns and medium passes than when we played NE.

I guess just overall i feel we have a better chance beating NE than DEN.

I would rather go to Denver since I think they are much more due for a loss coming off this big streak then NE who just lost to SF not as long ago.

Peyton's history in his first playoff games is worse then the Patriots. I know how everyone feels emotion wise, but I just like our odds better in Denver where we have historically had more success too then in New England.

I am aware of the shortened week though IF we beat Baltimore and play the following Saturday but at the same time much of this team is young so I really don't care as much about that.

Besides, how picky can we get? It's still a house money year. ;) We play who we play and just deal with it.

Either team will be difficult at home. We do have more success historically in Denver than New England, but thi is a completely new team (minus a hand full of old timers), so I don't think it will affect them at all.

I would prefer to play New England because their defense has been exploited a lot more this year than the Denver defense has. The Denver defense has also been playing better and better as the regular season came to a close.

I don't like our chances against either team at their houses, but I like put chances better against the Patriots. I just wish they hadn't been able to get a bye to rest and heal up.

Both would be brutal. And for the record I was not a big fan either of going to Houston this soon either, too many games close together with a divisional opponent and we have been pretty poor there the last 3 seasons.

If the Colts get by Baltimore thats a brutal atmosphere and game itself. But, yes Manning or Brady are their own beasts and deserve to be heavy favorites.

I am not saying the Colts automatically lose to either like many will say but I just get so sick and tired of playing the Pats at times and it's been a while since we played Denver in the playoffs. I realize though if we cut out the turnovers we had early on vs. NE (and Luck has been solid lately there) we might be able to make it a much much closer game. That game snowballed pretty fast once we made mistakes and we know NE makes you pay for those.

But, I would also have more fun as a fan playing an unfamiliar opponent and yes the story lines would make this a great game too.

I have seen much of this forum pick Denver to go to the SB too and maybe win it all. If we lose to them I also would like to see how we matchup vs. them too for next year and what we have to work on if they are truly the best of the AFC.

However I often have always liked the odds in the past too of playing the team with the huge win streak. You want to be the one to stop it but maybe it won't be us if it happens.

But, in the meantime. Beat Baltimore!!!! And we will know Saturday where we would be headed if we won too. You can bet if it is Denver and we win the questions start asap after the game. ;)

But, guys. Look at us talk. We are at the big boys table again! Or trying to be. :)

If you think Super Bowl....you dont want Denver-Indy

We've played at NE before...we didnt do well but we'd have that knowledge going back..no surrises

The mile high air in Denver is a problem for rookies (and everybody) if you've never experinced it....we have half a bus full or rookies. Denver;'s won 11 in a row...we'd be foolish to WANT to go there

Plus: the only way Indy can host the AFC title game is if Cincy is the foe.

Well that certainly would be a hoot. Bengals at Colts to go the SB. The league would be in a state of shock. LOL.

I guess you never do know mark. Maybe the Colts or Houston could pull a 2010 Jets and go back to NE after being blown out and then stun them. Logic would say Houston had the better shot though with their defensive talent.

But, we need Baltimore OUT this weekend. :)

Well, for one I disagree that Luck would be overwhelmed simply because Manning is going to be playing on the other team's offense. Yes, I am sure he would get asked questions about it the week preceeding the game, and maybe he would be a little more nervous at the beginning of the game knowing he was going up against the former face of the franchise, but I definitely don't think he would be petrified in fear and unable to process his reads and throw the football. After all, Manning isn't exactly lining up on the other side of the ball when Luck is out on the field. Luck probably wouldn't even be thinking about it while he was in the game. Luck has had tremendous pressure on him for the entire season stepping into Peyton's shoes. This is nothing new for him. He has handled himself like a pro, and I wouldn't expect it to be any different if they played the Broncos.

I will concede you make a good point about the AFC title game being in Indy if Cincy and Indy both made it that far. I guess I am really not expecting us to beat either Denver or NE, but not that I am saying it couldn't happen. And I would love for that to be the case. I am just not that optimistic. However, my comment was taking into account Colts fans saying that it was too soon for Luck/the Colts to face Manning for the duration of the entire season. This was being said even before we knew what the playoff matchups looked like. And no, at that time there was no reason for it as far as the matchup was concerned.

We stayed with N.E. for a while.  Our first problem is Vince Wilfork changing Luck's arm angle.  That won't happen again because Luck learns lessons and improves.  The 2nd was let Julian Edelman break us on special teams.  We won't let that happen again either.  That was a fluke anyway.  Other than that, Luck can beat the Pats defense.  In which case, it would be a shootout and I would take my chances with that before Von Miller and Champ Bailey, 2 of the best.

I have to admit I am thinking about our path to the Super Bowl

..and the Manning-Luck media assault would be stronger than dirt

But BOTTOM LINE: 2 paths

@ baltimore, @ NE and at home in Indy vs Cincy is doable..right??

@ Baltimore, @ Denver and @ Houston or NE???.....Mercy. That a hard ride down a dark, dusty road.

Go Bengals!!!

Either one of those paths is incredibly difficult. Plus, this is assuming that Cincy can win @Houston and @Denver before they get to us. That is expecting a lot, not that it couldn't happen. Playing at LOS would be very nice. Still, that is a lot to expect both the wild card teams to make it all the way to the AFC champ game. I wonder how often both wildcard teams have advanced all the way?

My standpoint is that the Colts have a very good chance to beat Baltimore, and then are capable of beating Houston and Cincy. There is just that problem of having to face Denver or NE if we win the first game. The Colts match up horribly with both, but I think Denver would be the more exciting game, and I think it is honestly the more winnable game too, media circus and all.

If the Colts do indeed beat the Ravens, I would much rather see them play in Denver. If this fairytale is going to end, let #18 do it... otherwise a ring is the only preferable ending... haha

I think this is what most people think. I would like to play denver because of the whole Colts vs. Peyton. However I think he will just kick our a**.

The only way we get out of the divisional round would be playing the Patriots. It could snow big time up there and minimizing the strong suite of the Patriots offense. I hate to count on weather to play a factor because it proves we are not the same calibur of team as they are. However, would you really take the Pats running game over our running game?

I know statisically they are probably better, but to me I say were probably pretty even on the running games.

Like Jules said, in a house money year, heck with it!!! All cards on deck!!!

Jets lost 3-45 in Foxboro and pulled off an upset at Foxboro in 2010. If you believe it, you can do it and this team just needs to get kick started with a win over the Ravens. Once we get a win vs the Ravens, the belief that comes from it can carry them, IMO.

Denver or Pats, I am not worried a bit if we beat the Ravens!!! To me, the Ravens game is the jump start we need for belief because it will give us the belief we can win on the road and that is the one that ultimately matters!!!

I thought about it. I'd rather take my chances against Denver, Manning has always been shaky in the post season. There is a reason people call him the greatest REGULAR SEASON QB of all time. He may prove me wrong, but there is no scenario where I "want" to be in Foxborough in January.

Peyton's home record is 6-4 as a Colt, Brady's home record is way better, something like 10-2, if I am not mistaken.

So, objectively speaking, I can easily see why Colts fans would prefer to play Peyton, so I agree!!!

We will just have to wait and see if Peyton gets to write new playoff chapters as a Bronco!!!

Brady and the Pats are a whole lot more bearable than the Broncos at this point. New England hasn't been playing their best football while Denver is now starting to play the best ball they've played all year. I'd rather us play Denver in the AFCCG that way we know either Peyton or Luck will be going to the big game and can have reason to cheer. I know for a fact I couldn't see myself rooting for the pats in any fashion.

We can go to New England and win. The Jets in 2010 got blown out 45-0 in the regular season and won there 27-20 in the playoffs. It's possible.

Stephen the magic word you mentioned was earlier and Denver has played much better ball since then so I don't think it would be a piece of cake to beat the Broncos at home.  :)   I say we take one week at a time and beat Baltimore first and then see who we play. :goodluck:

Have you ever watched Denver play? Not being a smarty pants at all, serious question. I am a lady but love me some defense and have actually studied up. :)  Wolfe and Ayers are also DE's and if Von and Elvis can't get in, they do. The 4 CB duo of Bailey, Porter, Harris and Carter is outrageous. The LB core is probably the weakest but still pretty darn good with Woodyard. Williams, Brooking etc. I am certainly NOT saying this is a cakewalk at all for Denver but if there is any defense I would rather not play it is theirs. They have done a great job of getting Peyton the ball back. Every single team that plays Denver knows how to beat them, that is by keeping the offense off the field but only 3 teams have been able to do that. NE got beat by SF with a rookie (somewhat rookie) QB, I personally think that is an easier road and NE doesn't look as strong (they are strong but as strong) as of late.

I've watched several Denver games this year as a matter of fact. In my evaluation all of those other guys you mentioned other than Champ Bailey, Dumerville, and Miller are good support players but they are nothing dominant. We have played better players than that group in my estimation. I didn't pay attention the last couple of games I watched, but I can't exactly recall if Porter was even playing. He's been getting outplayed by Tony Carter.

You know what is crazy. I told my family in the offseason that if the Colts shocked the world and made the playoffs that we would make it to the AFC title game as a Cinderella story a la 1995.

I hope I am right........

In 1995 as the #5 we had to beat a 9-7 team in the WC round and then a 13-3 AFC West first seed in the divisional. Then in the AFC title game we fell to the second seed who had ref help.

Now you are someone talking common sense! Totally agree.

I think many here are so focused on Peyton being "one and done" that they fail to remember that there is also an emotional side to all of this. What person is going to be beat easily after being disrepected, regardless of history? Peyton will be fired up for this game and I am sure his team will want this win for him. I would NOT be wishing for Von and Elvis, who combined, lead the league in sacks to have any sort of meeting with Luck or his O-line this year, nor would I want to take on Denver's corners or wide receivers. The Colts have their emotional battle as well and I don't discount them at all, however they were on the other end of the stick here, Peyton was cut, he did not quit. I can not believe anyone would wish for such a disaster. While history can give you a good "guess" NO ONE KNOWS how Peyton will do with a top 5 defense and all around better offense, add emotion to that and I would be very, very careful for what I wish for. Denver and Peyton are NOT going down as easily as some suggest!

I agree. There would be a ton of hype for a Broncos / Colts, but honestly we don't want anything to do with that match up. Manning would pick our rotten D apart and Luck wouldn't fair any better against their D. It would be a massacre. Your're correct we did cut Manning, but the Colts were basically forced to cut him and I think that he knows that. Resigning him would have been one of the worst mistakes probably in NFL history resigns. What most loyale Colts fans are looking at is how fantastic he is doing and think that we would have the same result with him still in a Colts uniform. We have no O line and with the hits Luck has taken Manning wouldn't have lasted more than a few games or so, then yippie here comes the back up QB. The problem that we have in this forum and others is that many are assuming that we are going to get by the Ravens, not to be Debbie Downer but next week at this time the forum will be consumed with whom our draft picks will be this coming April.

We suck. With this o line and this situation we are in we will be lucky to crack 4 wins this year. Luck will be hurt at any moment in any game and we have no run defense or run game or anything. We gutted our team in the offseason and now we have to suffer through a sad rebuilding process.

In all honesty both NE and Denver are going to be coming off bye weeks having just both played back to back cupcakes. NE with the Jags/Dolphins and the Broncos with the Browns/Chiefs.

IF the Colts beat the Ravens they will have just gotten by the Texans and Ravens in back to back weeks. And with playoff atmospheres for both. And both good teams.

I feel as if we will be battle tested if we make it past this weekend. Our opponent will be older and rustier I hope with the Colts a heavy underdog. :goodluck:

Of course Baltimore will be a brutal environment. Like chad said if we get past Sunday afternnon it might help jump start us into giving our next opponent a very tough game. :cheer2:

The media would hate to see Colts vs Bengals in the AFCCG.  Heck they might even black the game out due to not enough interest.  That would force the powers to be to actually put the Colts in a Primetime matchup.

Speaking of primetime matchups... How good do the schedulers feel that they snipped the Colts vs. Ravens matchup in favor of the Vikings vs Packers matchup.

The only coverage I have really seen since Ray mentioned retirement was about Colts vs Ravens.

Here is another plus.  I am not hearing about Mayflower trucks I am hearing about a future HOFer.  Much better coverage than 1984 video tape

    • yes, I agree that Marvin was definitely something special, and made so many catches look easy.  He was a joy to watch all those years.       I am starting to watch TY in the same light.  I am excited about his potential to be the same type of player for us.
    • Intro: The Colts (1-2) travel to London in Week Four to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars (0-3). Indianapolis has beaten Jacksonville in six of their past seven matchups. Here’s a “Quick Look” of the Colts and Jaguars meeting at Wembley Stadium. View the full article
    • I want to see Haeg at RG permanently, then move Good back to RT where he looked pretty good last year. Those 2 are both great run blockers and at least decent pass protectors. That right side could become just as strong as our left side when Castonzo is playing at his best. Kelly has looked solid in the middle and we could suddenly have an above average offensive line with pretty good depth with Reitz as a swing G/T and Harrison and Blyth as swing C/Gs. Clark also as a backup T with some development.
    • I liked a lot of what I saw in the Chargers game. The offense got out to a much faster start than it has the past few weeks and even into last season. The defense clamped down on the running game for the most part and held their own in the red zone. This team is steadily improving in all areas.   As far as improvement, I'd like to see the bad turnovers from Luck go away and not so many drive killing penalties. Some semblance of a pass rush would be nice as well.
    • I did not hear that but honestly I like many shared that sentiment 100% IMO .
