Andrew Luck reminds me of ......

No I am not upset at all but I do think there are double standards at times when it comes to Manning/Brady and sometimes even Rodgers in regards to others.

Yes Favre got the beating of his life vs. the Saints and threw the pick. But, he gets dragged through the mud.

A few weeks later Peyton Manning ends the game in the Super Bowl on a must score drive to tie the game with a pick 6. But, people instead blame our team? Honestly I think Peyton and our offense sucked in that game vs. a porous pass D that lived and died off the turnover so they went away from the run game......right.

Look I know everyone adores Manning and rightfully so, but there is such hypocrisy here at times. Favre did as much for his teams quite often as Manning and Brady have done for theirs. But, Brady can stink it up in the title game vs. the Ravens and win and nobody cares.....he can stink it up at home vs. the Jets of all teams in 2010 following an MVP season and nobody cares......

Manning could put up under 20 points in a playoff game or throw a game ending pick and it's the teams fault too.

I just sometimes hate it. Yeah Favre used to get pick happy at times too but why does he get dragged through the mud and others don't for their mistakes?

And Rodgers does not get dragged through the mud for losing to the Giants in the playoffs while Favre gets massacred for losing in the freeze bowl in early 2008 to the Giants in OT.

I just think there are so many double standards at times when it comes to who the masses want to crown at QB.

JMO

Regarding Manning's pick 6 in the 2009 SB, I blame TV broadcaster Phil Simms. Just Kidding! He said "I wouldn't blitz Peyton. He's just too good. He'll make you pay for that." Then bang! #18 throws a game changing interception. It's a pet peeve of mine. Never shower the QB I favor with complements because if you do something horrible is about to happen to my preferred field general or the team I want to win anyway. Also, in our Playoff loss to the Jets, running into the punt returner destroyed our MOJO & field position in that game. It gave Rex Ryan & the Jets a fresh set of downs too.

Is there a double standard toward Favre? Absolutely not. A lot of his mistakes were self inflicted. People give Aaron Rogers slack because of all the nonsense Rogers had to deal with regarding death threats from Favre fans who refused to see the writing on the wall.

I don't blame Rogers for losing to the NY Giants at all. Big Blue was just a buzz saw back then. Nice chatting with you always Jules!

Do I hate Brett Favre as a QB? No, but notoriously bad decision making during Championship games on route to the SB cannot be ignored IMO.

Yes Gavin, I agree that Favre does deserve to be in the HOF & yes all great QB's throw picks, but Favre has been known for throwing multiple picks in Championship games at the worst possible time. To be fair to #4, my respect for Brett grew by leaps & bounds considering the punishment he took in 2009 vs the Saints. By the 4th quarter, I expected Favre to be dead. No, I am not advocating physical harm toward him. I was just astonished at the beating Favre took that's all.

I remember a certain pick 6 thrown in the biggest of big games by a certain former QB of ours, They happen

I disagree, I think there is a double standard with Favre. And yes QBs will throw picks. It happens. Some throw less then others though in the biggest games, Montana being one for his SB performances. He did not throw a pick in 4 SB wins, I don't care how good his teams were.....thats a good stat to have on your side.

As for the pick 6 vs. the Saints, that and the onside kick are not even my biggest pet peeves for that game. I still think we needed to stick with the running game. Granted the Colts run game was dead last that year but the Saints were letting us run, Addai was killing it for some time. After the onside kick I feel we panicked more and went away from some things that were working. Of course not having a poised head coach either did not help.

As for Rodgers, I love the guy, but he is also arrogant, don't kid yourself.......

You see you can criticize QBs you admire and like. Too many think unless it is total fluffing that it is hating. It isn't.

I probably could even criticize Luck more this season but as a rookie behind a sometimes awful o line I just can't. It seems almost unfair to me.

I never thought this thread would end up with such a Favre flavor. Favre was like a kid with a deadly weapon ( his arm) but didn't have the wisdom to always use it correctly. Here is hoping and praying that Andrew shows more wisdom than the gunslinger.

Btw, Archie Manning and Brett both hail from Mississippi, where I reside as well. I saw Favre in college at a Miss State vs Southern Miss game. I got to see his arm in person. nothing short of phenomenal.

He reminds me of Brett Favre and Warren Moon too.

Moon could escape pressure.

Look at 3:51 on that clip and tell me it don't remind you of Luck. Moon had the most beautiful bombs ever. If he played in today's league, he would have 5,000 yards easy and be tearing it up. That Oilers offense would be unstoppable with all the penalties that favor WR's and QB's today. They would be averaging 30+ points a game.

What Brett Favre did the best was how he could make a play when the play was already broken up. Those little swings routes, and how he would roll out to the left or right, being chase and just dump it off to a back.

The league needed a new Brett Favre, and we finally got one with Andrew Luck. I don't care how much you guys drool over the stat hogs of today's age, but Favre kept the NFL very interesting for 20 years. I don't see how anyone can hate him honestly. He was always smiling, and cutting up. I think Favre represented FUN more than anything, because that's what he was doing out there, just having fun. Another thing I have to say is how Favre wasn't all about the money. He could have asked for a lot more than he got for his final years in Minnesota. I hated seeing him with the Vikings but at the same time, how could you not laugh at the stuff he was doing like that dancing with "Pants on the ground" in the playoffs? There will never be another Favre type QB that is just wanting to have fun and being goofy all the time. Now they are all too serious.

The Colts would have won that Super Bowl if they just kept running the ball. That was the Saints weakness on defense. Minnesota ran it down our throats, but Peterson fumbled 3 times. Colts had us beat on the ground, have no clue why you start airing it out so much when your RB is gashing them to pieces.

Manning threw that Super Bowl away. I don't care what anyone says. He threw a perfect pass right to Tracy Porter. Wayne was covered, he should have threw it elsewhere. I don't understand. Favre gets blamed for every loss in Packer playoff history. They even blame him for the loss to Denver even though he played great, but when Manning throws the game away, everyone defends him and blames the team. That just blows my mind. If he wins the MVP this year, then the NFL owes Favre one for the 2009 season where he played his best season. I'd still take a 40 year old Favre from '09 over Manning's current season. Favre looked like he was young again, it was scary how good he was that year.

Manning and Favre both have that in common, they lost many playoff games, and they both are 1-1 in the big game. Sorry boys, but Joe Cool is still 4-0 in the Super Bowl. I don't care how many MVP's that Manning wins, Joe Cool and Unitas are the GOATS in my eyes.

You really don't like Farve. If I were to take everything you have said about him in this thread, and I hadn't seen him play for my self, I'd think he'd never won a game.

What's your point exactly Fish? Did I say Favre never won a game? Did I say he never won his SB victory fair & square? That's a no on both counts...And for the record, yes, I really dislike Favre & I don't adore Favre like NFL Network analyst Steve Mariucci does either.

Ironically enough...I have more respect for Cowboys QB Tony Romo than I do for Brett Favre & I don't exactly "love" the Dallas Cowboys & Jerry Jones either. I respect Brett Favre NFL longevity, but beyond that my respect for him begins & ends. Period...

You make good points about Farve, he was fun and was a good QB. Honestly I think I became critical of him because of the drama later on in his career, from the GB drama, to the " flip flopping " on retirement. The text pics didn't bug me as much, I think it's very possible that girl didn't mind and was just looking for a paycheck.

Is it safe to assume that you would be a lot less passionate in your distaste for Favre if you lived elsewhere? Too many years of having others enthusiasm for the guy shoved down your throat?

I get it, you didn't like his style of play, but Tony Romo? Really? One is the only person to win three straight MVP awards (among dozens of accomplishments). The other has never even been the best QB in his own division, and seems perpetually one bad game away from being benched. He will be forgotten the moment he retires, if not sooner.

I can't STAND Brady myself, but I still acknowledge what he is.

The media was a huge influence in that drama, when the real issue was Ted Thompson not wanting to grant Favre a release because he did not want to take a chance of Favre stickin it to him in the division, He was being pushed out for Rodgers and whats worse was managament tried to keep him from playing somewhere else

Nope. Change zip codes with either me or Brett Favre & I would still detest #4.

"I still acknowledge what he [Favre] is"...A HOF QB with self centered, sexual harassment, and interception tendencies....The fact that I live in WI neither detracts nor lends additional credence to my opinion of a NFL QB that makes horrendous decisions both on & off the field.

Not sure Favre was pushing to be traded within the division, I think he was just pushing to be traded period, after all he was traded to the Jets.He probably went to the Vikings to stick it to GB but that cant be proven one way or the other, I know I'd want to stick it to my old team if they tried to keep me hostage as a backup when I new I could still play (which he proved). Ted did him dirty in my opinion in the end it worked out for both sides, I dont think any of that diminishes any of his accomplishments

Sure, I don't blame Favre for playing in NFC North. Heck, if I were in his shoes, I'd wanna do the same thing myself. Yes, Favre has achieved a nice assortment of HOF records including interceptions...Ignoring that is like complementing a family accountant who embezzled all your money.

Brett Favre to me is the epitome of an athlete who received all the praise & very little media or coaching criticism. HC Bill Belichick or Bill Walsh would never tolerate Favre's turnovers; He'd be firmly planted on the depth chart....Firmly planted on the bench.

Again when you play 20 years your going to have alot of turnovers, Also what Favre received in terms criticism and praise was out of his hands, The media grabs whatever they can get there hands on to create a story.Also........ HC Bill Belichick or Bill Walsh would never tolerate Favre's turnovers.....I dont think that makes Mike Holmgren any less of a coach as a matter of fact I think it was a big help in him becoming a SB winning head coach, Got to have the QB that can operate the system

A very poignant response Gavin. I cannot refute 1 word you said my friend. :hat:

On a side note, although I am glad Steelers RB Jerome Bettis & HC Bill Cowher won a SB ring in 2005, I still think Seahawks HC Mike Holmgren got robbed of a SB by poor zebra officiating in Detroit that year.

I like Bill Cowher so I will let this minor controversy gracefully die. Besides, Bill is a very fine coach IMO. I like his spit & protruding jaw line myself.

You are correct Jules. Luck's less than stellar o-line is largely responsible for his picks this year. If Grigson fixes the line next season, those interceptions will drop significantly.

This is just my opinion, but I hate all Luck comparisons to Favre young or old. I am insulted for Luck to all Brett QB comparisons. A horrible analogy for sound, fundamental field general football.

Okay I read the clean version but I like this messy one. lmao

He did.

Oh and 2005 was a bucket of crap and excuse my language!! That was the Colts year or was supposed to be. That team was awesome.

:argh::flaming::ticked::bomb::censored: :cuss:

I swear to God, I would lose to the Saints again in the SB 3 times if we could win it all in 2005 then potentially have back to back titles. :tvhammer:

Besides, I think I felt going into the SB vs. the Saints deep down in my gut that Sean Payton was going to take Caldwell's lunch money.

Brett Favre the player. I loved watching him play. I loved the boyish smile that he brought to the game. The Monday night game after he lost his father is one of my most memorable moments watching football or sports in general. Maybe it hit home, but that was an incredible moment. He was a gunslinger. He had confidence in his arm to get the ball from point A to point B and threw small windows. I can't really fault him for that. He won more games than he lost with that mentality. More TD passes than interceptions.

Brett Favre the man, I lost a lot of respect for. It wasn't how he would talk retirement, or change his mind. That topic is going to come up when a player hits his mid 30's. I don't blame him for not wanting to quit a game all of us love or we wouldn't be posting on sites like this. I'm sure at 42/44 whatever he is he's better than some currently playing. But I did lose respect for him as a man with LittleBrettgate and the sexual misconduct he was accused for whether it was after or during the time his wife was battling breast cancer. Like I said, I lost a lot of respect for him at that point in time.

Luck runs faster than Roethlisberger did but looks Much the Same otherwise.

Luck is the OPPOSTIE of an Aaron Rodgers as Luck throws in a Sloppy 3 foot window, Rodgers more like 12-18 inches.

Andrew NEEDS a Really Good running game.

Sloppy 3 foot window?

Your point about Favre's performance against the Raiders following the death of his father is a valid one FJC. Brett played a miraculous game that night no question. Yes, how Brett treated Deanna his wife with the Jen Sterger female attraction fiasco admittedly was not Favre's finest hour. No argument there my friend.

I guess it just upset me that Brett's picks were notoriously overlooked as part of his "gunslinger persona" when no other NFL QB was ever given such a glaring pass for turnovers. Just ask black NFL QBs if they would retain a starting position long if they threw picks at the worst possible times in a game...Nope.

I think this is the 1st time in Colts Forum history that visible metadata.... 1's & 0's in computer binary language received a like before Jules. Cool! Thanks. Computer programers in Dublin, Ireland will appreciate that.

    • I can too. And that will tell us everything we need to know about how the view him. It will tell us their feelings on the tight end room, and what direction they pick from there will tell us even more. but if they take him at 15, we won’t know much about what might have happened, as they will be landing someone they had rated highly and fell to them.
    • Glad that’s over… if I wanted to argue about it, I would have responded far more in depth than pointing out how you were attempting to gaslight me. I did not. Meaning I was ending my part of whatever the argument was. You “putting a finality to it” and then listing bullet points tells me it was the argument you wanted all along, which makes sense why you brought Grigson up in the first place. Bait, hook, gaslight. Almost got me buddy. You are a funny guy, Doug
    • Putting a finality on an argument you want to have. There is a theory that Ballard won't draft a OL high because ARs injuries were not caused by a poor oline. I felt it important to note that since Luck's major injuries were also not caused by his oline, Ballard could still want to improve it like he did in 2018 simply because AR is The Franchise. And its important to point that out because there has been a running (false) narrative for about 9 years that Luck's oline was the (main) reason for his injuries that kept him out of games. The (false) narrative is based upon, IMO, a detest of Grigson, and not reality about the facts (or strong rumors) behind the kidney laceration and snowboarding shoulder. Therefore, mentioning Grigson and the (false) narrative was germain to the point about Ballard possibly drafting Oline high this draft to protect AR. Mentioning Grigson shouldn't trigger a CB vs RG discussion, unless people reading it are gaslighted by their own reading lens.
    • That is a very inaccurate description of what happened. At this point it’s history and doesn’t need to be revisited but I will say Chloe adds value to this board and should be and is by most encouraged to post, even if people don’t always agree with her.
    • My response was in regards to another posted suggesting that the Colts need to get the pick right when it comes to picking a WR. I agree with you .
