I am trading Josh Freeman because him and Rodgers have the same bye week. Who should i trade him for/pair him up with? I'm looking at Sam Bradford and Kellen Winslow.

Wide Receivers on the waiver wire are Danny Amendola, Devin Hester, Donald Driver, Hines Ward, Steve Breaston, Mohamed Massaquoi just to name a few notable ones.

I'm not sure if you made this post before you heard about Manning's week 1 injury (and potential injury for the entire season!) But yea, I definitely smell a pro-Colts perfume coming from this topic, and despite being a Colts fan, sadly, I just dont like the Colts this season. Here are my thoughts:

--------

Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay = Great pick. Cant go wrong here. Play him every game, if you can.

Josh Freeman, Tampa Bay = Since you have Rodgers, you may want to consider ridding yourself of Freeman, but be careful how you do it. If you can afford to keep him, hold him until he plays well early in the season (which I think he will), then trade him.

Michael Turner, Atlanta = My favorite RB for this season. Excellent pick. Very durable, and the Falcons are projected to have a big season.

Tim Hightower, Washington = Great value pick. I don't think Washington trusts Rex Grossman, so they will have to rely on a mixed run game. This may change, however, if they pick up David Garrard...

Ryan Mathews, San Diego (W/R) = Great young RB, but typically the Chargers hate using him in the endzone. They prefer punching it in with a bigger RB/FB. Expect Mathews to get big yards, but get deprived of endzone touches.

Joseph Addai, Indianapolis (W/R) = Solid choice. He played well in preseason, and with Manning's injury, Addai will see increased workload. Unfortunately, this also puts him more at risk of injury, which he commonly has happen. Which leads me to...

Delone Carter, Indianapolis = Due to Indy's huge rotation at RB, I don't like this pick, but due to Addai's injury history and frail physique, this could be a good insurance policy. Write it down, Addai WILL get injured. It's not a question of if, it's when.

Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis = Wayne is always a safe pick, but even more with Collie and Gonzalez's injuries, Taj Smith being cut, and Garcon's suspect hands. Furthermore, regardless of Manning's injury, any QB should look toward Wayne as he is the playmaker.

Desean Jackson, Philadelphia = My 3rd favorite WR in the draft, behind only Wayne and Andre Johnson. Desean Jackson's speed matches phenomenally with Michael Vick. My concern is I doubt Vick will last the entire season, and with Vince Young out potentially the entire season, can Mike Kafka pull out all the stops? I actually think so - I'm a huge Kafka fan, but it will still rob Jackson of some valuable points. We saw how Vick treated his body in the preseason (He laid right into Polamalu!... Not smart!)

Mike Sims-Walker, St. Louis = Good value pick imo. With Josh McDaniels leading the offensive helm, I suspect the Rams will throw with more vigor, frequency, and see the endzone more often. Bradford is also steadily improving, and Jackson is still dominant enough to keep defenses in the box.

A.J. Green, Cincinnati = Bit of an enigma. Great, young, gifted receiver with a smart QB throwing to him, but I've lost faith in the Bengals coaching staff. However, with no superb #2 WR in the absence of Ochocinco and Owens, expect Green to see plenty of attention. Just hope the attention isn't so big that defenses double cover him!

Marcedes Lewis, Jacksonville = Since they lost Garrard, they now have Luke McCown, who historically has been atrocious. Even if Blaine Gabbert plays, it doesn't change the fact he is a rookie coming off a lockout. Thankfully, the Jaguars don't have any superb receivers anyways, and I don't think Luke McCown likes throwing deep, so Lewis may see a hit-or-miss season. The Garrard departure really threw a monkey wrench into everything.

Jermaine Gresham, Cincinnati = Should prove solid, but for now, start Lewis. Dalton will be undergoing a transition coming off the lockout, and the tumultuous Bengals coaching staff and the distraction of Carson Palmer doesn't help matters any, so sit on Gresham until you're convinced he is your guy.

Adam Vinatieri, Indianapolis = Since the Colts typically play indoors, I like this pick. He does seem to miss some easy kicks every now and then, but you could do a lot worse. Again though, Manning's injury may impact his performance if Collins struggles. I would start another kicker for the first few weeks until Collins (or Manning) gets comfortable.

Indianapolis = I hate this pick, lol. The Colts did not show enough promise in preseason to convince me they wont get run over, as usual. I'd recommend the Buccaneers, Bears, Jets, Lions (they did awesome against the Pats)... heck, I'd recommend any other defense. Plus, with Manning out, this compromises Mathis and Freeney.

Yeah I made this after I heard Manning's injury. I agree with you on the most part. Just in case you're wondering i had the 5th pick. Also thanks for replying.

Aaron Rodgers I'm definitely keeping. Freeman normally I would keep him but because they both have the same bye week I can't keep him around unless I drop the Colts D which might actually do me some good as they will more than likely be getting negative points and pick up another QB. But ultimately I think I am going to trade him.

I was surprised Turner fell to me. It was a no-brainer on my part. Usually he is gone by the end of the first and the start of the second(for me at least). I took a bit of a risk on Hightower though as they have Ryan Torain and Roy Helu but from what I have read is that he will be the starter come week 1. Ryan Mathews is going to be used in the same sense as Addai is: Wide receiver/running back. Both can get yards and both can make the reception out of the backfield. As for Delone Carter, he is exactly like you stated, an insurance policy. With word of him being the second string running back and due to Addai's history with injuries i figured I might as well. He has a better chance of starting then the other running backs on the waiver wire.

My wide out's I am pretty confident in but I still feel like I need one more potential starter. I was going to try to get one more to solidify the position but the tight end's were on a run and I had to get me a decent one before they were all gone. Wayne is self-explanatory. Throw to him and he will catch it. DJax also self-explanatory. Also doesn't hurt that he runs the ball to. Mike Sims-Walker I'd like to think will be Bradford's go to target other than Danny Amendola which is also on the waiver wire. Green I'm taking a chance on. He is in a tough division and is part of a young but talented group of skilled position players that the Bengals have. Not to mention the rookie quarterback he has throwing him the ball but I believe he will do good this season.

Marcedes Lewis is really the only receiving weapon the Jags have other than MJD so I was kind of inclined to take him. Pretty upset too because I thought I had drafted Kellen Winslow on top of getting Lewis but apparently I didn't so I had to scramble around to find the next best tight end available. Gresham really came along at the end of the year. Then again he had a better quarterback throwing him the ball.

Vinny was a safe pick. Doesn't miss often and usually scores a lot of extra points but that might change this year due to Manning's absence.

Okay, I'm being optimistic with picking the Colts D. But after seeing the other D's left on the waiver wire, I am switching my D with either the Giants D or the Bucs D

Yea I mean there should be plenty of defenses in free agency to choose from that are more serviceable than the Colts. As a Colts fan, I'm optimistic they can do something great, but that will have to happen until after week 1. Week 1 they are playing AT Houston, against a great offensive Houston team, against a healthy Matt Schaub, and against a defense that should be better than last season, which means more opportunities for Schaub to put up points.

^ The only bright notes, is that Arian Foster is a game-time decision, and Houston lost Vonta Leach (FB) in the off-season.

Well if there was any doubt about Indy's defense this week, I hope you've dropped them by now :P. Keep in mind Arian Foster was not even playing, so imagine what it would have been like if he was in the game! It's also very apparent to me Kerry Collins can not sustain long offensive drives, putting more pressure on Indy's defense.

As for Addai, he did not impress me as I had hoped for this week, but I think that's a by-product of Collins coughing up the two early fumbles, putting the Texans up an insane amount of points early. The Colts had no choice but to pass, so I don't blame them for neglecting Addai a bit. I still say Addai is a solid choice, but only if Collins can hold onto the ball! lol

    • True, but the usual assumption is first round drafted player starts and plays many snaps however, teams look for players who can grow into higher ceiling than they're currently. For example, DE Chop Robinson is said to be raw but has all the traits to develop to be a quality edge rusher one day. I'd not be surprised if Ballard drafts him for the potential. Or similar players who would've higher ceiling in future than being an instant starter right now.    Another assumption people generally make is that the perceived holes need to be filled in and the team needs to be complete after the draft while Ballard may not draft for this year alone but with the aim to get the roster much better and near complete in a couple of years.    The way Ballard has not yielded to the pressure of competing and paying more to bring in expensive free agents, even after acquiring rookie QB, seems to indicate that he's not looking at this year alone.   Ballard may just stand pat and go BPA for any position as long as they've the player ranked higher, even if fans think another player available in position of need could play as immediate starter in this team.
    • Welcome once again to Dr. T’s annual, official, Colts Draft Contest for 2024! Believe it or not, this is the 25th year we are doing this since the first contest was the Edgerrin James draft of 1999! With only seven choices this year, we needed to be creative again. So, contestants will be asked to select an A, B, and C choice for ALL rounds. Correctly choosing choice A merits 5 points, while correctly choosing choice B or C instead will merit 4 and 3 points respectively. If one of your "A" selections is chosen, but in a different round than you predicted, you get 2 points, if one of your "B" selections is chosen in a different round than you predicted, you get 1 point, and if one of your "C" selections is chosen in a different round than you predicted, you get 0.5 points. In addition, we will have a bonus question again this year and give everyone the opportunity to predict if the Colts will trade their #15 pick! The choices will be: trade up, trade back, stay put or you can also abstain from guessing. Like last year, if you predict correctly, you earn one point, but if you are incorrect, you will be DEDUCTED one point. If you don’t want to risk it, you can also abstain (no harm, no foul). For those that do not answer this question, the default is that this is a vote to abstain. If AND ONLY IF there is no clear winner at the end of the 7 rounds of the draft, the contest will be extended for ALL participants in which everyone will also be awarded one point for each collegiate free agent you predicted would be drafted by the Colts but was instead signed by the Colts after the draft.  Make your choices here by listing the round, choice A, B, or C for each round, with the name of the player, position and school AND your prediction on whether the Colts will trade the #15 pick this year. You may also write with each choice a little blurb explaining your rationale. Your 21 Colts selections and draft question this year are as follows:   Round 1 - #15 A, B, C Round 2 - #46 A, B, C Round 3 - #82 A, B, C Round 4 - #117 A, B, C Round 5 - #151 A, B, C Round 6 - #191 A, B, C Round 7 - #234 A, B, C   BONUS: Will the Colts trade the #15 pick this year?  1) Yes, they will trade up. 2) Yes, they will trade back. 3) No, they will stay put. 4) I don’t want to risk losing a point and will abstain.   Please be a good sport and do not just copy other contestant's selections. You can easily do some research on your own, since plenty of free draft services are available on the web. You also can make changes to your selections, but this can only be done before the contest is closed on Thursday at 11:00 AM CST April 25, 2024, on the first day of the draft. Good luck and let the best GM win!
    • I guess Im not that excited about the class for one thing, maybe Im missing something.  What I see is rookie DEs fighting for playing time if they got here, I dont see big upgrades over what we have.  I do see big upgrades elsewhere that would start, probably day 1
