Bruce Arians' offense

Recommended Posts

Ballard needs 20 plus carries  game.  He showed me something vs the Texans.  I wasnt to high on him before that game but he has the potential to be a good back in the NFL.

Ballard was very impressive. The spin move in the hole, the speed to the outside, he finished carries, etc. He just didn't have a good game in pass protection, but that's not surprising. He'll get better.

The offensive line also did a nice job, and was probably more physical than I can remember them being all year. We were actually crushing guys in the run game for most of the game. The line gets a lot of flack, and most of it is well-deserved, but they deserve some credit for their run blocking on Sunday.

I personally am a fan of the Arians offense. The problem is we do not have the personel in place yet, but a year of Luck playing in this can only benefit him, I believe he s far too mentally strong to ever suffer from David Carr syndrome, one of the biggest traits associated with Luck out of college was how he could have a short memory and forget mistakes and get on with it.

Obviously when you are in a vertical offense you need time to let the play develop, I believe Grigson needs to be as aggressive as possible to ensure we turn one of the worst o-lines into one of the best, which is certainly possible with all the o-line men available in the draft and free agency, this would also make teams respect the run game more to set up play-action which should be a vital component in this Arians offense.

I'd also love us to bring in Wallace in FA as he thrived in Arians' system.

The only problem I have only recently noticed is that there are not very many quality O-lineman available this yr. in free agency. There is Ryan Clady and Jermon Bushrod, but those guys are virtual locks to return to their respective teams. As far as guards that are available(which IMO is the main problem) there really isn't anyone worth even wasting our time and money on. Maybe Grigson can work a trade or 2 for a couple of quality guards, but I doubt it.

As far as Mike Wallace is concerned. Don't want him and don't need him. We already have 2 small speedy receivers with Hilton and Brazill. Both of which, I feel can be just as good as Wallace.

Indeed, and we are not the only team looking for better pass/run blocking lineman.  We don't have to have stars, we just need quality guys.  Can win their fair share of the battles, not get blown up nearly every down.  And hopefully they're durable too.  We can survive on that. Grigson?  I trust you to be able to find these guys...

Wallace is a luxury purchase.  We need to stock the shelf with staples first. :)

I don't agree. Jake Long has had a bad year because he doesn't suit a West Coast style blocking scheme. He has had one bad year, won't be kept on next year by Miami, but don't forget before this season he was considered arguably the best LT in the league, and he's only 27. As for Guards, Andy Levitre is easily one of the best in the league. I think they are both attainable and would be HUGE upgrades. I'd still love Warnack in the draft as well. O-Line is so so important in this style of offense.

Im not a fan of Long, even before this season he had allowed 50 some sacks in just about as many career games. IMO he is highly over rated. As far as Levitre, Im not sure he fits our man blocking scheme, they use a zone blocking scheme in Buffalo. He may be able to do it and if Grigson brings him here I'll trust him.

    •   First,  it's NOT one game.....     the O-line was outstanding the last 6-7 games of 2016.   Second,  the line wasn't the issue why we lost Monday night.      The young quarterback was.     Brissett is a talented kid,   but he's got a lot to learn as all young quarterbacks do.        The blitzes that came in the 2nd half are blitzes that Luck can handle....    but most young quarterbacks struggle with them.      Once the offense couldn't move the ball,  we were screwed.     You can only keep the defense on the field for so long before bad things start to happen.   Look.....    you're likely going to get your wish after this season.     Pagano will get fired.    Most of the staff will likely go with him.       Are you going to throw a fit each week we melt down?       Because you'll be doing a lot of it.     And what's the point?    The staff will soon be gone,  maybe not as fast as you'd like,   but they'll be gone.      And a new staff will come in and hopefully that will lead to much, much better football.     It's just a matter of time...
    •   You can't sidestep this problem.  He started the sitting/kneeling thing and so he's the face and the symbol of it.  People would feel that by signing him you are endorsing his protest, which is going to cost you fans.  That's just the reality of it.   He is grasping at straws, he's hurt either emotionally or financially by the fact that he's not playing.  A couple weeks ago he promised that he would stand for the anthem if he was signed.  Now he's doing this.     But he can't go back now.  That's just the way he is.  He stood up for something and now he's going to pay for it.  It's not any different with anyone else.  Taking a stand on something controversial, no matter how right or wrong you are can cost you.
    • So every time a player gets beat or has a vision mishap they are regressing? These guys are grooming this year and will only progress through learning and failure.
    • After 6 games, they are not regressing. They are playing different teams with different formations and looks. Again, 6 games. They don't have a whole lot of experience at this level.
