Bigger story....Colts or Peyton?

This question will be asked this week...and for the rest of the year...

BOTH were given up for dead....

Peyton was told he should retire.....Irsay was talking about building he 2015 team

Peyton had a 'rag arm' they said....the Colts were rebuilding, looking for a high draft choice......

Peyton was shipped out of town..and everyone said he should go to SF...

Folks said Indy would be luck to win 4 games and 6 was a modern day miracle and fans were ridiculed for thinking Indianapoilis could make the playoffs

The Colts were 150-1 to win the Super Bowl and Manning winning the MVP was a joke...

and now what?

I say Colts because of the Pagano factor. We were given up for dead BEFORE we lost him. The fact they have ralied for their coach is the heart warming story that the media loves. Deep down I think there were a good chunk of people who saw Peyton being able to come back from this. I'd say about 95% would have laughed at the idea of the Colts being a playoff team before the season started then you factor the Pagano factor in and it's unreal what this team has done. With that said you can't got wrong with either one.

Well said. I never gave up on Peyton. I knew he'd be back. But I never thought we'd have 7 wins. Anyone who did was just wishing for it and had no base in reality for thinking so.

Dont say that...Monroe...Not true.....I picked 7-9 and I detailed which seven they would be...right here....as did a couple of others

(of course, I said they'd lose the last 3 games of the season...and I'm still worried about that.)

Aftre he thre three INTs in the first quartyer at Atlanta...did you hear ANYONE say that Manning would throw 26 TD passes and win the AFC West?

This game was won on good defensive stands, a good special teams effort for Hilton.

The offense was dead for most of the game. Luck never really settled down but he made plays when we needed them.

Peyton is doing well and very good for him. I knew that he was going to have a good year this year. Peyton works harder than anybody else in the league.

I myself predicted a 6-10 season before the year started and I am very happy to be the current 5 seed in the AFC.

Grigson has made some great choices so far in guys like Freeman, Hilton, Ballard, and Allen. And has done well getting role players that are a part of the success like, Satele, McGlynn, Justice, Avery, Redding, and Zbikowski.

The team has made mistakes but we are both exciting and resilient. And the team is truly a family from cheerleaders to players shaving their head for Pagano.

I cant brag on a 7-9 prediction..monroe.....

I have to admit...if the Colts make the playoffs....and win a game? Even one?

..and ashcanning the greatest player of all time...

With their coach stricken with a life-threatening disease...and boys and girls cutting their hair off left and right...

...in a small Indiana town in middle America

....they will make a movie about this.....

'Hoosiers II"

..where's Gene Hackman (to play Pagano) when we need him?

What if???? Colts all the way!!! Peyton and Denver are the ENEMY!!! DESTROY THEM!!! BROCS!!! i CAN CARE LESS ABOUT

THE ENEMY AND PEYTON. And actually I'm sick of Peyton and the broncs!! What I mean by that is since I live here in New Orleans

the bronces have been on tv every week, heck!!! Put the Colts on!!!! I better leave this alone before I get....

gut reaction to the thread title was Peyton, but not living around the Indy area and being immersed in the team - then reading the comments in this thread...my vote may change....I'm on the fence right now. Both are really good stories. I think in the end, Pagano's ordeal weighs more heavily on my mind. I'm happy that both are doing well and above expectations.

Colts. This is a really fun, really unreal team that should be talked about for years to come.

This season won't totally be appreciated until it's done. A LOT of people had us picking first again in the draft. It's sad that the Cowboys still get more press than us when WE'RE the real story. Think about it.

It's a part of being a small market team. There are just as many benefits to it as well. The Pacers are awful and no one cares or knows. They get to fly under the radar without ever being scrutinized. The Lakers were scrutinized to the point that they had to fire their coach and than the media scrutinized the organization for firing Coach Brown. You can't succeed in that kind of environment.

Both stories are good. just wait for wildcard weekend when we travel to Denver ( knock on wood). Peyton was tested for a possible concussion today too.

he was fine & stayed in game., but went maybe 3-13 or so in 4th quarter after earlier going 80 %, However many were drops and field position like starting at the 2, then 2 straight easy catches dropped andf then missing 3rd under pressure , had 3 in a row 3 & outs with real bad starting position

so was he a bit dizzy or a bit off.,

in final drive he took 6.5 minutes off the clock mixing runs & then 3rd dwn conversions Via pass, one a 26 yarder to the 15 to DT , Prater made 1st days FG after missing 2 , up now by 8 and only 18 seconds and no timeouts for KC left thjanks to that drive

Moreno did well, but history has shown hew always has Vs KC

BIGGER STORY < HARD TO TELL BOTH TERRIFIC, I'll punt on this one but leaning to Peyton as many gave up totally on him

I think they are both great stories. Good for Peyton for getting back to being Peyton.

But who thought that Luck would be SO good, and the Colts would be where they are at now?!? Nobody.

I like Peyton, but don't think for a second that I wouldn't want us to sack/intercept him 10x if the Colts ever play the Broncos. GO COLTS!!

The answer is both.

Peyton is the biggest individual story for a player. Written off by most, thrown away by the team he led for 13 years and cut. He goes to a new team, that many didn't understand and has them fighting for a potential bye and can lock up a division title next week. Not bad for a noodle arm. Good call Kravitz.

The Colts are the biggest team story. Worst team in the league, playing with nearly 1/3rd of the cap in dead space, new GM, new HC(Thankfully), new coaches for the most part, new players sprinkled in with some veterans and they are in the playoffs. That is a story own it its own, when you add in the Pagano storyline it amplifies it as it should. The players are playing with a purpose.

It's like the Oscars. Manning is in the running for Best Actor, and the Colts are running for Best Picture. One could argue the Broncos are also in the running for best picture as well.

In the Movie of this 2012 Indy season...can Denzel Washington play Reggie? Too old? which one?

Gene Hackman plays Chuck Pagano...

.....Daniel Craig plays Grigson

Kevin James can play Jim Irsay...

The Kardashian sisters can play Irsay's daughters

Too old for Reggie

Too old for Pagano... Thinking Billy Boy Thorton or Tim Mcgraw

Kevin James is too young for Irsay, Maybe give Kramer some gray hair and a 5000 dollar suit and it could work.

Johnny Knoxville needs to eat the equivalent of 2 Steve O's and he could play Grigson.

An actual movie requires a level of talent that those girls couldn't pull off.

Maybe we can start a thread "would we be playing this well if coach Pagano was not diagnosed with cancer?" Is Arians a better head coach than Pagano? Yes, the sample space is small for Pagano but the case for Arians is huge, IMO, as a head coach, if not as an OC, looking at it objectively.

.....the last line is the best. what you're saying is: I should have named some real actressess... :flirty:

How about Michael Weatherly (NCIS) for Peyton Manning and Ashley Judd for his wife...well.....Ashley

    • As a Ballard type player, he seems to fit the bill.  Big 10. Excels at zone coverage. Good tackler. etc. Colts may be able to trade back, and still land DeJean   Considered one of the Safest picks. Seven 2024 NFL Draft Prospects Who Are Safest Bets to Succeed at Next Level https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10113875-7-2024-nfl-draft-prospects-who-are-safest-bets-to-succeed-at-next-level   DB Cooper DeJean, Iowa   A fractured fibula during a November practice tempered any excitement regarding Cooper DeJean's draft status. So he's not been in the same conversations as the class' top defensive backs, specifically Toledo's Quinyon Mitchell and Alabama's Terrion Arnold. DeJean's profile projects just as well or better than the aforementioned cornerbacks.   Three specific attributes set DeJean's floor higher than anyone else among the back end.   First, the reigning Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year presents the positional flexibility and traits to start at cornerback or safety at the professional level, with B/R's Cory Giddings highlighting his coverage skills:   "DeJean excels in zone coverage, but he's versatile enough to play man as well. He shows a smooth backpedal and the ability to keep his leverage and quick footwork with few wasted steps. Although he transitions well, there are times where DeJean hops into his breaks; allowing a step of separation.   "When in zone, DeJean does a great job of reading and reacting to the quarterback's eyes. Pairing that skill set with his route recognition, he often puts himself in good position with leverage and positioning.   "While working downfield, DeJean has the strength necessary to hand-fight with tight ends and bigger receivers, as well as the speed necessary to carry twitchier receivers downfield. He also does a very good job of locating the ball and playing through the catch point."   Second, the high school track standout is an elite athlete who captured Iowa state titles in the long jump and 100-meter dash. Many expected him to blow the doors off Lucas Oil Stadium. Unfortunately, he wasn't ready to test in Indianapolis after being cleared a few weeks earlier.   "His acceleration is incredibly fluid and super powerful," NFL combine trainer Jordan Luallen told The Athletic's Bruce Feldman last summer. "He's the best athlete I've seen in person, pound for pound."   Finally, DeJean adds significant value as an elite collegiate returner. Big Ten coaches also awarded him Return Specialist of the Year this past season. DeJean averaged 13.1 yards per punt return over the last two seasons. A top-notch contributor anywhere along the defensive backfield and on special teams will provide excellent value in the NFL.   Potential Landing Spots: Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles
    • He could, but I think he's way more athletic than people give him credit for and projects way better as CB. Definitely could be a good safety, but I think if we drafted him, he fits well as a boundary corner for us.
    • I think we need to sign a vet, but Jackson isn't it. Age and his dirty playstyle are non-starters for me.   JuJu definitely flashed pretty well in the limited games we saw him in. If he's healthy, I think he'll be a solid CB for us.   He dominated every WR at the Senior Bowl, specifically in drills that heavily skew towards WRs, often using techniques he was just really learning in the pro-bowl practices (mainly press man techniques). He dominated in the MAC and dominated at Senior Bowl practices, and with his athletic traits, he projects very well to the NFL. I see him being a dominant CB in the near future. I don't necessarily want to take a CB at 15, but I wouldn't be mad if we took Mitchell.
    • There are quite a few articles on the internet that say he may transition to safety in the NFL. Interesting reads
    • He could feel that he needs Paye to develop into a more complete edge rusher. He keeps promoting that he was great as a run defender, but needs to continue improving. He invested a 1st on him, so he could very well want to retain him. My thought on drafting an edge rusher at 15 is that it works as a hedge in the event you don’t retain Paye or if the player shows far more promise than Paye moving forward. My comment about Pierce is that he invested a good draft pick on him- so the argument could be made that had Pittman walked, he would have Pierce (although we all agree that Pierce hasn’t performed like we hoped, nor would he be a wr1 by any means). He would have options this draft had Pittman not worked out.   The idea was more behind longterm planning when Pierce was drafted. Keep them coming in the pipeline so that you have options, and ideally good ones. Remember when Phillip dorsett was drafted? Many thought at the time the idea was to add to the room and hedge in the event TY walked when his contract was up. I’m not opposed to looking at stacking premium position players in the 1st round. That provides depth at the position short term and options longterm. It lessens the burden on a 1st round rookie at those positions, giving them time to develop.
