Who Covers Megatron?

Recommended Posts

Okay, we know no one can cover him. How will we contain him? Obviously we need to pressure the QB and bracket CJ.

Hopefully Davis will make a cameo appearance.

Our best option is to bracket him with Davis and Bethea if Davis is healthy. But they have a lot of weapons on that offense. Broyles just had a huge week against the Texans. The thing with Detroit is you never know which team is going to show up. They are very inconsistent.

That's why I'm glad they lost. Hopefully they'll be discouraged since they're out of it.

I say you put 10 guys on him and have Mookie rush the QB.

In all seriousness, if Davis isn't healthy, then no one even has a chance against him.

Getting knocked out of it makes them mad for awhile. They'll want some kind of revenge first. I'm not liking it. Maybe I'll be wrong... maybe.

Knowing Detroit, they'll be more like "Well, we are out of it. Might as well go and injure as many of their players as we can"

Probably Davis they said on the pre-game he was really close to playing today so I would expect him back next week.

For what it's worth today Gordy has a really nice game which means Gordy, Butler, and Vaughn have all looked games and looked bad in games which tells me the are all kinda enh players. Decent guys who aren't good enough to be long term starters but can have a nice game here or there during the season.

Yeah, no one got abused like against NE. Mainly because of the pressure. At least the game is indoor so our pass rush should be effective.

I would bracket him and play zone. Detroit is a curious team. They can look great at times, and really bad others. They are pretty much done playoff wise so I hope they have already "checked out" ...

I think the better option is to have Freeney and Mathis get to Stafford and not let him throw it to Megatron in the first place. No matter what coverage you play against Johnson he's going to make big plays if you can't get to Stafford. With that said if you get Stafford like any QB he'll make mistakes.

Its got to be Vontae Davis.....

................we have no other answer....but GoC is the man...We have to hit and hurry the passer ......they dont run the ball all that well..

Bottom line...we have to score 30 points

I am wondering who covers Avery, Hilton, Allen, Fleener. What 2 guys cover Reggie. I think Vontae and Bethea will try to contain Calvin Johnson.

jacob Lacey...before people laugh he's been playing well for Detroit.

I know this, we better not do that double DB at the goal line of the Lions are in that. It is the worst coverage possible. Stafford just has a WR/TE go to the soft spot the DB leaves open because hes going up to help cover Megatron.

I think all of our ex CBs are playing pretty well with their new teams.

might as well put a monkey out there to cover megatron because regardless this guy will get 140 yards and a td

I've been hit and miss picking colts games this year, but I see a fairly close, moderately high scoring game. Somewhere in the vicinity of 31-28. I have to give the nod to the home team (Detroit), but like has been stated....just depends what Detroit team shows up. I think it will be an exciting game regardless.

If that's their only TD that would be great. A while back I posted 'who will cover Gronk'. The answer was no one, but they (NE) have more weapons and a great QB. Detroit has a good team, but very inconsistent.

This would be a good game for Fleener, Davis, and Chapman to play in.

Nobody "covers" Magatron , they more or less have to survive him

This is true. i mean if he was a RB... i would probably be more concerned. the guy has what 4 tds this year? i think its the approach of CJ will get his targets... we just can't let everyone else beat us. its like looking at Reggies numbers all these catches but 3 scores. but it's Hilton, Allen putting up the points we put too much focus on CJ we will see Young looking like Flash 80...

That has shades of the classic Chuck Norris joke. That aside, I think the major key here is to put constant pressure on Stafford. Keep it coming from all sides and hopefully keep the ball in front of us. Megatron is a monster, but if we put all of our focus on him, we are in trouble.

Agree with everything you said.

All sides would imply a push up the middle - something we haven't really been able to do all year.

I really would love to see Chapman get some burn against Detroit. He was a virtual immovable force with

one bad wheel. Maybe he could actually get some push with two good ones?

I know he's playing against higher caliber linemen, and he's only going to be a spot player until he gets

into game condition, but if he could play on some downs he may be able to provide something we need this game.

Chapman was never really a 'pressure' type of player. He's more of a run stuffer who can make you use two linemen to occupy him.

I think we're in the 4-3 a lot more than the 3-4, but he has to be an upgrade over what we have.

Nobody. Just double team him at the line of scrimmage like you do with a gunner on special teams. :)

I know you're joking, but I wonder why we just don't hit him coming off the line. At least it would disrupt their timing. After bumping him, the S could then rush the line because he'd be useless in pass coverage at that point.

In reality, if he gets 150/2 TDs, it would be fine if we shut everyone else down.

Dont give Stafford passing lanes. Megatron can be rendered less potent if we tip Stafford's balls or harass him in pass rush. That should be our No.1 goal. Make Mikel Leshoure beat us. I'd rather give Leshoure 70 yards than Megatron 150 yards.

Playing indoors on turf helps us as Freeney and Mathis are so much mofre effective on the faster fields.

We've got to find a way to harass Stafford all game long, otherwise we can't stop their offense. King of the Obvious, I know, but that's the key in this game.

    • Yeah that can ruin a season. Rodgers is the best in the buz IMO
    • Wondering ;  Could the acquiring team agree to eat all or part of the dead cap as part of the trade?  If they have the space I don't see why not.  It's not like they have to resign Luck.
    • This particular game may be the easiest one left on the schedule, so a win should be likely. However, the Jags are a better matchup against us than most people realize. Their defense is 100% legit now, it will make life very difficult for Brissett, he may not throw any tds Sunday. If we use Gore and Mack very effectively, use a 50/50 split along with passes sprinkled in, we can move the ball on the Jags. However, this will have to be done with laser like precision, which I don't trust the coaching staff to do. Fournette and Ivory will do well in the running and pass game, Bortles will look better than he really is, and the Jags will hold our offense to around 14 points IMO.   Jags 24 Colts 14
    • With you guys with your situation with Andrew Luck compared to our situation with Rodgers. Our season is over here too. Hope you guys get Luck back soon.
    • Hmmm...this is the kind of dangerous reasoning that will have Irsay giving Chuck Pagano another pass.  The team just isn't good enough yet? No...I would argue that talent wise this is a better team than last year. We have upgraded the defensive front and added younger and better talent in the secondary.  Offensively...We have been hit by injury.  Most notably Luck.  But we have added a capable back up QB who is competent enough to put this team in position to win games.  That is an upgrade over Tolzien. We have added a young playmaking running back with explosiveness in Mack. Our receivers are mainly the same but their production is falling off, perhaps it's due to Luck's absence and the process of adjusting to a new signal caller.  But essentially talent is there and in many ways this team has been upgraded over last year.  Chuck and this coaching staff must be held accountable when they consistently do not put this team in the best situation to play to their strengths and succeed.  Mack is being underutilized.  Last week was a joke.  He is one of the most explosive weapons on this offense outside of T.Y. and this staff needs to come up with creative ways of getting him on the field more.  Secondly, our secondary's strength is man coverage yet we consistently are playing lots of zone schemes which we are not good at...particularly in the second half while trying to protect leads. These coaches have to let this young defense play aggressively.  They will make some mistakes but they will also make big plays and at least keep their foot on the throttle.  When they do...we are in games.  When we shrink back we have second half collapses and so called choke jobs.  It is not just that the team is not good enough yet.  Our coaches need to play to our strengths more to give us a better chance at success.  We have lost two winnable games because of gutless coaching in my opinion...the Cardinals and Titans games were both winnable.  Offensively we turtled up.  Defensively we slacked off into zone.  This "not good enough" team could be 4-2 instead of 2-4 with better coaching decisions and second half adjustments.    You know I love ya New Colts but had to jump in with my take on this buddy.
