I'm not so much saying that he can't rush the passer, but rather that was never really what he was known for at Alabama, even prior to the injury. His strengths were his physical strength and his ability to clog running lanes and anchor the Dline primarily on run downs. He did also play in 4 man fronts as well lining up at various positions so it's not to say that he can't rush the passer, just rather, personally, I don't want people to get too hyped up thinking he'll be a great pass rusher when we really don't know. I just don't want to see the inevitable disappointment threads and posts afterwards saying he's a bust or we shouldn't have taken him because he can't get to the QB (if that turns out to be the case). Even in his draft scout profiles before last season started, they pretty much all said the same thing in that he was limited at that time as a pass rusher. Hopefully he can use his brute strength to get into the backfield and if he can get a pass rush and accumulate some sacks then that's great. Like I said, more than anything I guess I just want people to keep from getting unrealistic expectations about him. And just as a side note, I get what you mean in your last statement, but it was perhaps unnecessarily combative in the way you said it. ;)

Yes, I guess me and Aaron Rodgers are too sensitive :)

The colts have been snakebit at this position though the manning years, with the exception of booger McFarland and the super bowl year. we have been waiting for a player with chapman's talent for a long time. Many of us believe it was one of the foremost reasons we didn't win more super bowls than we have. Not the only reason, but the foremost. There is a reason why a post about an NT stays bumped at the top of this forum. A whole lot of emotion going on, whether reasonable or not.

...Where Chapman can make an impact is OCCUPYING TWO LINEMAN, whether running or passing. If he does that, more often than not we win the matchup in the trenches. He will help collapse the pocket from the middle just be demanding double teams. That's how a good NT works. Whether it be running or passing, he hopefully will clog those lanes and get a push into the backfield. NTs aren't meant to be "pass rush" specialists. They free up the ends to do that, especially in a 3-4

Exactly right. He was a beast at 'Bama. Opponents would often use two guys on him, but were still pretty unsuccessful in being able to move him. He always seemed to be able to get his pads just a bit lower than the O linemen's and pretty much collapse anything they tried to run up the middle.

Where am I going?....and why am I in this handbasket?

good teams have linebackers that actually make tackles...know their assignments on defense....and need to be called out by the fans and coaches.check the stats, look at replays..people on defense on of position on cut back runs...tight ends not covered...etc.

That comment is a waste of space on the Internet.
He wondered, as he had many times wondered before, whether he himself was a lunatic. Perhaps a lunatic was simply a minority of one.

Meh I will wait till he gets on the field to judge, But so far he hasn't proven to be worth the 5th rounder we spent on him, I believe he will but it hasn't happened yet, hopefully he is close and proves he is a steal

People's expectations for rookies are really out of whack with realism. First with Fleener, now with this.....patience, ladies and germs.

Yes because 5th rounders must prove their worth...

I think you are really over-valueing (i know its not really a word) a 5th round pick. Most feel a guy with potential to be a solid starter is a steal in the 5th.

of course they should just like every draft pick should, thats why players are drafted and others are just Undrafted Free Agents some are deemed worthy selections and some arent that goes for every round, as it is now we could have spent that 5th on a healthy prospect that could have helped the team now in the 5th in my opinion, but we didnt because we needed a NT and he was a darn good one at Bama, I believe he will get on the field sometime hopefully soon and help us big time when he gets into the swing of things on the field but until then there was simply better choices available until proven otherwise for our team, Thats the nature of the beast

Maybe I am but I dont think the Pats overvalue Brady and he was a 6th rounder. Every player has a chance to be somebody when stepping on that field no matter the round they were chosen in, Most in those late rounds dont take advantage of it but some do
