Yeah I agree on Powers. Unless he resigns for a cheap contract, he's not coming back. He is a nickel corner at best in our new system. We need to find a long term solution at the other starting CB spot opposite Vontae Davis in the offseason.

Agreed, Butler suits fine for the rest of the season, but I would love for us to go after another shutdown corner.

Why did we sign miller isn't fleener coming back and we already have Allen and Saunders

My guess is Fleener is still banged up, and Arians feels the need tfor the 3rd TE....something he has seen in film.....maybe even yesterday's near miss by the Bills.

I like the move because I have not understood why others have come and gone on our PS this year and Miller has stayed/stuck....maybe we will find out that I can eat my words.....and Miller will kill some bootie! I am all for it. :)

What's your thoughts on Nevis going to the IR?

I thought Nevis was a serviceable backup, a good rotational guy, Nothing really outstanding by any stretch but between him and Moala they are serviceable and could play end and even Nose on pass rushing downs, neither are great but worth short term contracts going forward, although if I had to choose which would get the contract I would choose Moala. both seem like if we drafted 3-4 DE in the draft then both would be solid depth with the ability to start going forward. I think Moala has been the better of the 2. Both need development in terms of pass rush from 3-4 DE on pass rush downs. I think Moala is better at holding up at the point of attack at this stage

My issue is who is going to be the other DT opposite Redding in Nickel situations now that Nevis is gone. In running situations I think Geathers and Guy will be okay as part of the rotation I suppose.

Powers injury, someone asked....my guess is the dreaded "turf toe". That darn injury has ended players' careers. It never really goes away a lot of times...Powers wasn't a good fit in this system but we're now dangerously thin at CB. Davis better get healthy! He was starting to get the system down when he got hurt (you didn't hear his name, that's a good thing). Nevis was solid, if unspectacular...had a nice sack against J-Ville. Bummer, but such is life in the NFL. Excited to see what Chapman can do.

Moala, Matthews or a Free Agent not on the team yet would be my guess, Not sure what the current Free Agent list looks like now, cant find an updated list

at least now we can all agree trading for Davis was well worth it.

Hmmm Davis is injured a lot too, and he hasn't shown up significant performance so far. I'd expect a little more from him. A guy on nfl.com believes that signing Davis may cost Grigson the "Executive of the Year" title...

We will see. I think Davis has talent, but somehow he should prove it on the field.

To all.... explain to me the significance of Josh Chapman..above any other untested rookie

How good do you think he is?

Similar to the excitement of having Andrew Luck come onto the team... win you have a player that is absolutely dominant at his position in college, you are excited to see if he can bring that to the next level and remain pleasantly optimistic that it will translate accordingly.

I suppose Moala could do it, but he's normally known for his run stuffing ability. My guess would be Matthews, but he certainly doesn't blow me away. I always wonder why Matthews always finds a way to remain with the team.

eh I dont know but his contract is not up till 2014 and he is cheap by NFL standards this year and next , looking at Spotrac many of our guys are signed beyond this year and come cheap, the players I dont have on the team next year are (in my opinion of course as of today, that could change of course)

Martin Tevasue (contract up end of year)

Marshay Green(contract up at end of year)

Dwight Freeney (Contract up at end of year)

Austin Collie (Injuries plus contract up)

Justice debatably could be brought back as depth but contract is up

Cassius Vaughn(contract up)

Tony Hills(contract up)

Justin Hickman

Now obviously other lists will vary and you can make a case to add someone or takeoff someone on this list (Im really hoping they resign Shipley)

Shame to lose Powers and Nevis.

Nevis had a high motor and brought energy to the front line.

Powers was getting burned a lot but I am a bit worried about the lack of depth at CB. I think we should at least give a workout to Stanford Routt.

Having Chapman back will be big to help plug the middle. Even if it is limited, any help versus Brady and the Pats offense, I will take it.

chapman is the best run stopper on the team, if he's healthy he's gonna start.

Lol. He will not be the starter right away. First theyll want to slowly ease him in to the speed of the game and to make sure his knee will hold up. Then he'll have to earn the starting spot by outperforming the other nt's, which he probably will in time. He will not however become the starter in his first game.

was rated as a second round pick talent wise. He feel because of his acl injury. Frankly I think some expect to be the savior of the defense I don't. He's a rookie with no camp, no preseason, no otas, and coming off a major injury. It will take him some time to figure it out at the nfl level. I just hope all those who except him to be the answers to our prayers right away afford him the time to develop.

That's why Chapman is a nose tackle. Nevis is not. I still don't understand what makes Nevis "too short" to play his position.

Remember...we had a thread where there was too tall too....when I mentioned "Too Tall Jones." I guess there is too short too? Danny Devito comes to mind!!!! 5 foot tall......:)

Leverage at NT is an enormous edge. I am looking for the "Just Right height" HMMMMM!

A Solid 3-4 DE is 6-3 or better with longer arms......He doesnt have the body for it.....

It's like we're talking about basketball.

The only reason Nevis is playing any five-tech end is because of our defensive scheme. He still plays plenty of three-tech tackle -- his true position -- within our scheme. I agree that he's not a true five-tech, and I've said that since before we changed defenses. But that's not because of his height.

Lol how do you feel about this sentiment now? Davis had 2 picks last week! His play has proved it. You still think the trade will cost Grigson executive of the year?
