Pass defense?

10 posts in this topic

Miami is walking all over us in regards to the pass.

How should they fix it?

What is "pass defense"?

You mean we're not supposed to let them catch it?

.... Well.... This is certainly awkward...

I'm not sure they understand.

Run D has been ok. Pass D, we've neglected. Not sure if it's too much personnel, space, scheme, etc.

we tried with Davis if he is healthy we are better, but we need something on the other side, bethea cant do everything. Maybe that should be our draft focus this year as our offence is moving along another year and we will be very good.

Seemed to improve once Mr. Powers made a exit.

I think the scheme has a lot to do with it. I'm still seeing way too many 10 yard cushions on receivers. It's like Coyer never left, at times. Don't forget how much we all dogged Tim Jennings when he was here. Now the guy is likely headed to the pro bowl this year. What a difference a scheme makes

    • Grade the draft!
B+. C position: Holmes and Harrison can't pass block and can't run block, so Colts took Kelly to start, who can do both, and Blythe to be a backup, who can run block at least. https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2016/03/18/draft-pff-scouting-report-ryan-kelly-c-alabama/ https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2016/04/13/draft-ryan-kelly-leads-pffs-ranking-of-the-nfl-drafts-best-centers/ G position: Clark is not a tackle with his change of direction ability, but he is a powerful run blocker and doesn't allow to bull rush him. Definition of a guard. https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2016/03/30/draft-pff-scouting-report-leraven-clark-ot-texas-tech/ https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2016/04/12/ranking-the-best-offensive-tackles-in-the-2016-nfl-draft/ T position: Haeg is plan C for RT spot (Reitz is plan B) and a project to start. Opposite to Clark, isn't powerful, but is very agile and aware. https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2016/04/04/draft-pff-scouting-report-joe-haeg-ot-north-dakota-state/ https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2016/04/29/draft-top-50-available-prospects-for-day-3-of-2016-nfl-draft/
    • Jaguars look scary for the future
More or less agree, but as Colts fans you should know as well as anyone it's deeper than coaching. You haven't had "decent" coaching since Arians left. Yet you still finish better than the Titans & Jags.   It's like an expectation or something. You're the Colts the standard has been set by Dungy & Peyton pretty high & your players come in with the expectations of playing up to that level.    Of course, getting to the AFCCG helps maintaining that standard just like winning 10 games a year. But Chucks not a good coach & he's not going to be able to keep it up much longer.    The Jaguars are bringing in talented players that expect to win, but how many losing seasons can a rookie endure before looking towards FA? How long before your veterans check out & just go through the motions?    I'm not counting the Jaguars out, but like you say, let's see them do something first before we crown them.

The important line is: "Projects as a strong-side 4-3 end...."
    • The unofficial, official UDFA thread
I remember a few months back Grigson saying they are very intrigued in getting a player like Darren Sproles. I'd say Ferguson is the kind of player he was talking about.
    • Grade the draft!
This wasn't a sexy draft, but the score boards will be!   Solidified O-line. Some development types, some starters right away. But it all circulates around helping Luck.   Would have liked a little more help on the defensive side, but again, that might reflect on me not knowing TJ Green. Might be a reach, might be a rather unknown and raw diamond.   B.
