Manti Te'o and Jarvis Jones

Recommended Posts

Te'o is a great player, but I don't *love him as an NFL prospect. Don't give me the bias crap, I am not biased when I scout. Anyway, he doesn't shed blocks so well. He will and should be a first rounder, but he isn't a cant miss prospect. That said, I wouldn't be that disappointed if we picked him, he's a great player. Jarvis Jones has a nose for the ball and already plays OLB. I wouldn't mind either of them.

Both are great college players and we are more set at ILB then OLB but if I had to pick between the two it would be Te'o, heck there are at least 5 to 7 first round OLB that should be coming out of college this year but only one true first round ILB and thats Te'o and for some reason I feel Freeney will be back next year for a MUCH cheaper price. But I have watched a lot of tape on both these guys but with the type of team we are trying to create I just feel that the rotation of ILB could develop into somthing great plus even if we let Freeney go there are a good number of OLB in FA but I cant say the same for ILB and depth is always key.

I think both are terrific players.

I don't think Jones will be available when we pick.

And I think it's doubtful that Teo will be available. Maybe. But not a sure thing.

It all depends on where we end up in the draft order and do we decide to trade down to acquire more draft picks......

I love Te'o, but I'd really prefer not using our first draft pick on a Linebacker. Much prefer seeing a lineman from either side or a Corner with that pick. Obviously BPA is what any GM would say, but you gotta take all things into consideration. BPA is such a crapshoot anyway, cuz how often do you see someone get drafted, and then 50 players drafted later have better careers? Pretty much all the time.

I say we look at the linebackers from Stanford. I mean, they got 2 great OLBs in Chase Thomas and Trent Murphy. They got one of the best ILBs in Shayne Skov. They have one heck of a DE in Ben Gardener. All of them have great size and play in a 3-4 Defense Formation.

Welcome to a new and obviously current Stanford fan. I'm another.

Love your post, but you should know that while all the players you name are very good, none are 1st round players. They'll go somewhere between the 2nd and likely 5th/6th rounds. Most of the talk here centers around possible first round picks.

You joined up at a fun point in time.... and welcome.... message me if I can help in any way....

Te'o will be in our range and he can play any LB position. But, Pagano will want to sure up the secondary hes known for. So, with that said I wouldn't be surprised if Pagano and Grigson completely shake up everyone's expectations and does something knowbody is expecting. I for one cant wait to see how they do next year in the draft. Either way they go, look for them to go more toward POWER on both sides of the ball.

If I was Grigson, I'd personally trade down in the 1st round and look at OL first and then at Pass Rushers. I doubt we get a shot at Jones (we'd have to lose every game from now on), and Teo, well there are better talents than him honestly. But yeah, Cardinal players are probably 2nd rd or below. If we get a mid-1st rounder, we should look at a guard prospect or a Tackle (Jones, Warmack, or Matthews) and Pass-Rushers 3rd round or below (unless we trade up, then Thomas is 2nd round).

I don't think we'll have the opportunity to take Jones. The only pass rusher that might be available where we pick if we finish middle of the pack is Bjoern Werner from FSU who would be a great addition in my opinion, he's Ryan Kerrigan-esque

werner is in many a top 5 lists

Could be true, especially by the end of the season. Most places Ive seen have him rated as the 3rd or 4th best DE/OLB prospect depending on how people rank Montgomery and Mingo.

i only pay attention to a few, but mcshay has him 3rd overall, and cbs has him 6th, and i gotta believe kiper has him in the top 10 at least

With 4 wins, 9 games left... looks like the Chance Warmack train may get their wish. (Minus the trade down)

i just don't get the obsession with warmack. gotta be the only fans in nfl history to clamor for a guard....except maybe the steelers last year.

Its about protecting Luck and running the ball first and in a Man Blocking scheme Warmack should be able to do that unless we run more Zone then maybe Johnathan Cooper or Omoregie Uzzi from Georgia Tech in the middle rounds, Travis Frederic is also another one in a Man Blocking scheme,Personally I like Zone better because it uses double teams often and the scheme demands the O Line work as a unit as well its simpler basically asking the O Line to only make two reads pre snap which are Covered (Linemen or Linebacker on a O Linemen) or Uncovered (Linebacker may be across from O Lineman but is not right up on him and D Lineman is not on O Lineman at all also Zone Blocking is more about leverage then it is mauling and overpowering (I think guys like Mcglynn and Reitz would benefit from a Zone Blocking scheme maybe Satele as well and if we decided what we want to do with a guy like Hayworth Hicks I think he would do good in the scheme because he is excellent at using an opposing players momentum against him, All just my opinions of course. I could be far off in left field about alot of this

As much as I like both of these players, I doubt we pick them. Jarvis Jones will be gone when we pick(Im predicted we pick around 8-15), and we dont really need help at ILB unless we got a great offer for either Freeman or Angerer.)

Id rather get a pass rusher at DE/OLB like Bjoern Werner. This dude has a motor that doesnt quit, and we need a player like that.

Guys I think its time to start realizing that these guys are both likely out of the picture and the colts will probably picking more like 15th or lower. With 4 wins on the season already and some very winable games from here on out you gotta believe the colts will have a minimum of 7 wins (kansas city, "maurice jones drewless" jacksonville, tennessee at home, and a 17th week texans team, plus with the way the Colts are playing you just can't really count them out of any game). With that said I believe the colts will be looking to shore up the middle of the offensive line with the range we are picking in.

Castanzo

Reitz

Shipley or Satele

Warmack

Justice or Ijalana

Doesn't look that bad on paper and I'm sure the line will get better through free agency as well.

i get why people like the guy and the reasons for wanting him, but if you have a choice between steve hutchinson and clay mathews it's not really a hard decision.

eh its harder then you think in my opinion. I'd be willing to bet there were other pass rushers in the draft that could put up Matthews type numbers but O Linemen are harder to evaluate, I'd take the potential top of the line O Linemen over the potential elite pass rusher in our case, I think Hughes is good in this defense, not great but I think he could be that pass rushing specialist, we certainly do need another pass rusher, as many we can find really you can never have enough of those but same can be said for good O Linemen. I think someone like Devin Taylor or certainly a Brandon Jenkins (if the Colts look at him and think he is healthy coming off his season ending injury) would be pretty good and maybe great in the 3rd or Margus Hunt

well, i disagree with everything u said, but it's clear we are not going to agree on this subject so i will leave it at that.

It's still really early, and we still have no clue when we will pick.

However, I have a feeling that both Jones/Te'o will be picked before we get our chance to pick. Star Lolutelei as well.

Warmack could be our first rounder next year.. But it's still early.

Any of that bunch (Te'o, Jones, Lolutelei & Warmack) would be a great addition to our roster

I think we'll be picking around pick 12-14. I think Jones is going to be a top ten pick, maybe even top 5 if the right team get an opportunit to snap him up. But I would love to take a blue chip pass rusher like Jones if by some miracle he is still there when we pick. I love Manti Te'o as a player, but ILB is one of the only positions in the entire team that we are secure at. I wouldnt want to take anything except OLB, G, DE/NT. There is no corner worth taking that high this year and SS can be fixed later in the draft.

Well said... ND comes up with a D front line and all of a sudden the MLB is making tackles... interesting..

Jones would look lovely in an Indy uni.... But IMO, Indy really needs to look at OL, NG, or CB. LB is one of the strongest positions on this team.

Huh?

Te'o has been among the nation's leading tacklers for 3 years now. Don't understand the... 'all of a sudden the MLB is making tackles'.... he's been making tackles to the tune of 10 a game for 3 years. He would have been a first round pick if he had come out last year. He's not a player who has come out of nowhere this season.

I think this is all a moot point. With each win our chances of drafting in the 6-10 range decrease. So, our chances of taking Te'o are fading... and I don't think ILB is a position of need in this draft.... still, I think he's terrific... he has sustained excellence for a long period of time against top opposition, one of the marks of a top talent...

Just my opinion....

I hope Indy gets NOWHERE near him.... he is a great typically over hyped ND player.

any of us who live RIGHT HERE... hear it every year.... Brady Quinn, Golden Tate, Michael Floyd. now Te'o.

Go away......These are average players who get hyped so much they are just smothered with unrealistic expectations when they leave.

ND DOES actually have some STUDS on the DL.... This season. Kelly is recruiting ...

Te'o best player in the country.... . no way.

The ND hype in this state is totally ................ silly..... for the end results. Year after year.

By the way ... I'm a Big Ten man and the Bucks will be back.

OK.... I remain confused.

I'm not a Notre Dame fan. So, I don't pay any attention at all to any Notre Dame hype. I am however a Te'o fan, though I don't think the Colts will be after him even if they could. I don't think the position is a priority. The hype I do pay attention to is from people who scout the colleges for the NFL. And they all say Te'o is legit, the Real Deal. By the way, some of the other ND players you listed have not flamed out and may still be good... Floyd could for Arizona and Tate may for Seattle.

And I never said Te'o is the best player in the country. He **IS** however, the best inside linebacker in the country. I don't think that's in dispute. But the guy has been great at every level, starting at high school. And he was wanted by everyone in college. And he's delivered for Notre Dame. He's never been a bust at any level. Just because others have flamed out doesn't mean he will.

I repeat, I'm not a Notre Dame fan. Pay no attention to the ND hype. But the kid is very talented. I don't know why you'd think otherwise.

Out of all my 10 years of projecting NFL prospect (college players), I can honestly say that Manti Te'o is the best linebacker of them all. He is a phenomenal tackler (constantly gets 10+ tackles a game), and amazing in coverage (has 4 picks this year). He's also their emotional leader and is one of the more passionate guys out there. Went out and had a 14 tackle game with a pick and a few tackles for losses a couple of days after his mom died.

Jarvis Jones is great too, but we're looking at just ridiculous upside with Te'o, whereas Jones is going to be a great player, but not someone that wows you (imo).

It was actually his girlfriend and grandmother that passed.
