ALL MLB 2018 Astros Repeat ?

Here is the all-time Playoff bracket: #1 1998 Yankees vs the winner of #8 1955 Dodgers/#9 2016 Cubs (play in game) #2 1961 Yankees vs #7 1984 Tigers - 5 game series #3 1970 Orioles vs #6 1953 Yankees - 5 game series #4 1975 Reds vs #5 1986 Mets - 5 game series -What I did with the 3 way tie between the Orioles, Reds, and Mets I just gave the higher Seed to the team that won 108 games first. Only way I could do it because 1 team didn't out do the other! *The higher seed has HFA My play in game results: I have the 2016 Cubs beating the 1955 Dodgers, so the 2016 Cubs now have to face the 1998 Yankees in a 5 game series. Stay tuned for the rest. 2016 Cubs advance.

Glad you found it, I was getting ready to message you but couldn't remember your exact handle LOL. Cubs winning it all has eased my pain with the Colts missing the Playoffs.

I think all 9 of those teams I listed were special. The Big Red Machine had Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, and Joe Morgan + Sparky Anderson was a Great manager. The 1986 Mets had an awesome Pitching staff with Doc Gooden, Ron Darling, Bob Ojeda, and Sid Fernandez + hitters like Darryl Strawberry, Keith Hernandez, and Gary Carter. My Cubs of last season had an awesome Pitching staff as well with Jake Arrieta, Jon Lester, Kyle Hendricks, and John Lackey + Chap in relief! Kris Bryant won League MVP as well.

I actually wasn't born yet in 1961 but going by research and studying the Rosters I would put the 1961 team the best, having said that out of the teams I have seen live I would agree the 1998 Yankees were the best. Hard to argue against a team that went 114-48.

After doing research here are the best teams that have won the World Series winning % wise since 1947. I took teams from the 1947 Season to now because before the 1947 Season African Americans weren't allowed to play (Jackie Robinson rule), WW2 was over by then as well. 1. 1998 NY Yankees 114-48 70.4% 2. 1961 NY Yankees 109-53 67.3% 3. 1970 Baltimore Orioles 108-54 66.7% 1975 Cincinnati Reds 108-54 66.7% 1986 NY Mets 108-54 66.7% -3 tied for 3rd in winning % 6. 1953 NY Yankees 99-52 65.6% 7. 1984 Detroit Tigers 104-58 64.2% 8. 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers 98-55 64.1% 9. 2016 Chicago Cubs 103-58 64.0% (had 1 game called due to weather so played 161 counted games towards W/L's) -These are teams that won at least 64% of their Regular Season games and won the World Series. I studied all of these Rosters and IMO, the 1961 Yankees were the best team out of this bunch. That was the season Maris hit 61 HR's, Mantle hit 54 HR's, and Yogi Berra was a fantastic Catcher. The main part of their starting Pitching staff consisted of Whitey Ford who went 25-4, Bill Stafford 14-9, and Ralph Terry 16-3. They had a reliever by the name of Luis Arroyo who was 15-5 and had 29 Saves. Feel free to chime in Baseball junkies, Happy New Year!

Yeah it is actually M Colts M - he is a Cubs fan but I agree I wish we had more fans of different teams. That Buccolts guy is a Pirates fan so he will probably Post here. Not an AL team but different.

Hopefully the others that were Posting on the old Thread know about this one. Like Gavin and 'M Colts M' I think is his handle, he started Posting during the WS. I see Jared and Princeton Posted once. Brent knows about this as well so Radio Girl knows.

Yeah when I do my list it looks like 1947 until now seems to be the popular choice. I will list the Top 20 teams by winning % that won the WS and then we can break down their Rosters and other criteria and comment on those teams.

Cards always worry me, I was shocked the Pirates weren't better last season. They were Good in 2015.

ALL MLB 2018 Astros Repeat ?

Yeah a list of greatest teams from 1947 and on would be real legit because African Americans weren't allowed to play before the 1947 Season - The Jackie Robinson rule. I would have to go back and see who the Top 20 teams are winning % wise since 1947 before I do that long list. I do realize winning % doesn't totally determine who the actual best team is. I will just list the Top 20 within the next few days and then everyone can choose who they think the best team is based on other criteria as well.

ALL MLB 2018 Astros Repeat ?

Winning % isnt the only thing I agree. It's eye test, Championships won as a core, and overall talent on Rosters as well. The 1989 A's would be very tough to beat and they didnt even win 100 games. They were 99-63.

ALL MLB 2018 Astros Repeat ?

I will do from 1971 and on and actually list the 10 best teams winning % wise. Reason for 1971 is, that was the year I was born. Seems like the way to go. I think most people in here probably would pick the 1998 Yankees as being the best team since then but Brent is a Reds fan and the BigRed Machine of 1975 was awesome! I have a friend who is a little older than me and he was a teenager when those Reds teams won the WS. He tells me all the time that the 1975 team was the best team he ever seen.

I can at least say this I was born before the 1971 World Series so in my lifetime which is 45 years now, 46 World Series played (1971-2016) the 2016 Cubs have the 5th best winning % of any Champion. Only the 1998 Yankees 114-48, 1975 Reds/1986 Mets = 108-54, and 1984 Tigers = 104-58 were more dominant. That is Great stuff! Cubs had 1 game postponed otherwise they may have tied the 1984 Tigers? They were 103-58.

ALL MLB 2018 Astros Repeat ?

Yeah, would it be better to do a list from 1947 up to now? and just list the 10 best teams from then?

Ok for you Baseball junkies. The very first World Series was played in 1903. I did some major research and here are the Top 5 Regular Season teams to win the World Series since I have been born. I was born in 1971, 1971-2016 seasons. 1. 1998 Yankees 114-48 70.4% 2. 1975 Reds 108-54 66.7% 1986 Mets 108-54 66.7% (tied with the 75 Reds) 4. 1984 Tigers 104-58 64.2% 5. 2016 Cubs 103-58 64% - yes my Cubs made the Top 5 most dominant teams in my lifetime to win a World Series! Here are the Top 5 Regular Season teams to win the World Series before I was born, prior to the 1971 World Series, 1903-1970 seasons. 1. 1909 Pirates 110-42 72.4% 2. 1927 Yankees 110-44 71.4% 3. 1907 Cubs 107-45 70.4% 4. 1939 Yankees 106-45 70.2% 5. 1932 Yankees 107-47 69.5% I really don't know much about these older teams other than the Yankees had Babe Ruth and I knew the Cubs won it in 1907. I had no idea the 1909 Pirates are technically the best team of all-time going by teams that won the World Series winning % wise.

The NL contenders should be: Cubs Dodgers Nationals Giants Cards Mets AL: Indians RedSox Rangers BlueJays Orioles Sleeper teams could be teams like Pirates in the NL, Yankees in the AL.

ALL MLB 2018 Astros Repeat ?

Here's my take on the Cubs. They had a special season with 103 wins and to be able to win Game 6 and 7 on the road to win the World Series is unheard of. Their 103-58 record was the 2nd best record in the Regular Season of any WS Champ over the last 30 seasons (1987-2016). The 1998 Yankees were the only team that has been better going back 30 seasons. I bring this up because I don't see them being as dominant, losing Fowler and Chapman bothers me a bit. I do love the Davis pickup but he isn't Chapman IMO. I do think the Cubs will win the Division again but I see them around 95 wins. 95-67 sounds about right. I think the Cards will be a threat to the Cubs in the Division and win at least 90 games. I see the Cards at around 92-70 but this is all guess work as the season is a ways away. Cards picking up Fowler was huge for them. Predictions are based on key players staying healthy as well. The Dodgers and Giants both will be Playoff teams again IMO, they both should win 90 games. Dodgers have Kershaw and Giants have MadBum. In the AL the only 2 teams that scare me are the Indians because their Pitching will get healthy again and they just picked up Encarnacion. They gave the Cubs everything they could handle in the WS. The RedSox are the other team that would scare me in a WS. They have made nice additions to their team as well.

  20. It's LeBron being LeBron. I have never been a fan of his for many reasons. He looks like a decent family man and takes great care of his kids + has never been in trouble with the law so I respect him for that - he is also a Great Basketball player, best today. Having said that his ego is outrageous, he left Cleveland in his prime because he couldn't win a Championship. Peyton Manning for example never thought about leaving Indy because he couldn't win for years against the Pats and Steelers in the Playoffs. Peyton stayed in Indy and won the SB. LeBron took the easy way out and went to Miami dead smack in his prime to join Wade and Bosh so he would be guaranteed at least 1 Championship. I just will never get over that because players like Magic, Bird, Jordan, and Kobe would never do that. He also left Miami to go back to Cleveland once he realized Wade and Bosh weren't what they were after the Spurs embarrassed the Heat in 2014. He had Irving in Cleveland who anyone can see is a younger version of Wade for major help to try and patch things up in Cleveland for leaving and win that city a Championship. He also seems to get upset over the silliest stuff, like the word POSSE. I personally think he just doesn't like Phil Jackson because Phil thinks Jordan and Kobe were better players than he is. To show I am not totally a LeBron hater I have him in my Top 10 players ever list. I take pride in my lists so that is just common sense. I don't think he is better than Jordan, Magic, Bird, or Kobe though. I have seen all of them first hand and have watched most of those players games. You cant put LeBron ahead of Kareem or Shaq either IMO. Kareem and Shaq were so dominant at the Center position that if there was an all-time Draft, if someone took them 1 and 2 I wouldn't blame them.

Red, White, & Blue Star Spangled Banner Controversy...

I am getting ready to get off work so I will have to respond to your Post tomorrow in more detail but all great points. Racism will probably never go away unfortunately as there are just people in this world that are ignorant and violent. I am not sure how anyone can solve some of the violence talking place. It just seems to get worse and worse with groups of people getting shot in night clubs, theaters, etc. for no reason. White cops aren't doing themselves any favors either by shooting unarmed black men during traffic stops. It just makes matters much worse.

Red, White, & Blue Star Spangled Banner Controversy...

Here's my short take on Colin and what is going on: I have no problem with people protesting about something they believe in or serious matters like racism, that is everyone's right to do so. Where I have the problem is dissing the American flag. It doesn't accomplish anything and it really gets many people to dislike you and question why you are doing that. To me it's dissing the Military and the USA when you don't acknowledge the flag. All you are doing is drawing negative attention to yourself when doing so. Had Colin just went on TV or got with some politicians on TV and discussed his issues on different talk shows to get his message out and how we should go about improving the neighborhoods I would be behind him 100%. I just don't get kneeling for a flag that represents your country. Some people say it's just a song but it represents our country, where we live. If someone is that upset with the USA they can always move to a different country if things aren't getting any better for them. This country has a lot of issues but it is still gives most people a lot of leeway to say and do what they want. Colin Kaepernick isn't African American either, His mother is white, he is mixed.

To me that was a back breaking call because our Defense was still fresh at the time and we had huge momentum. We would've got the ball back at 13-13 and our Defense getting more rest. That interference call was a terrible call! REFS can influence a game even in the middle of it without it being noticeable like on a last drive, etc. but fans that have high IQ Football know 1 play can swing a whole game. That was it right there. It's not sour grapes because we still had our chances but that call swung the momentum of the game which is fact.
