Barry, my name is Ray, and I'm new here to the forums. I can understand totally what you are going through. For the past 5 years, my beautiful wife, has basically taken care of me through all my medical problems. I developed a serious liver disease, and it got so bad I went from 225, to 430 lbs, because my liver was so destroyed. Not only was she there for me as much as humanly possible, but she kept her position as an ICU nurse manager, and took care of everything. She was always there for me, when I couldn't walk, when I couldn't go to the bathroom, and just to hold me and be with me through everything. I saw the love, the caring, the devotion, and the strain and stress it put on her, and still does somewhat until this day. I can imagine that its like this for you as it was my wife. From all that I have been through, I know that I wouldn't be here without her, just as your mother is still here because of your love and devotion to her. I pray that things work out for you and your mother, and please know, that you are in my thoughts and prayers, and for you to have the continued strength and resolve to see your mother back to recovery. Just know one thing..that she does know what you are doing, and she is very proud to have such a loving and caring son.

1st sorry for not responding earlier , usually i get a notice of this forums comments , also esp as have been on sight last few days, mostly NFL general but haven't checked here, so may write on occasionally Colt forum Colts football but usually I let others do and though I read it but not many comments so dont get into time consuming discussions

Sounds like u have 1 terrific wife and that u both cherish each other immensely

Wish I could give u a sounding board Re liver disease but I did ankle reconstruction / birth defects and disabled since 1988. Even though I try to go to 1 med conference a year ( last year 1st year missed as was when mom broke hip and had surgery day conference started but these involve topics relative to what i did and not liver issues so way out of my league )

Thanks God Mom is still with me at 94 even with all the issues, I thank u for saying .that u pray that things work out for me and my mother as I do for yourself ad entire family

, but unfortunately the 4 cranial nerves that are damaged will progress with issues even though the brain tumor that caused the damage is stable and dementia is a progressive issue

As for me my main issue is a cervical ( neck ) spinal cord serious problem as in basically a lack there of and no one knows why I can walk so also progressive, as well as a host of other issues . In fact more Dr specialists than mom, Tomorrow a neurologist and all through this month and most, but if u can handle it since 1988 u just keep doping it day to day

If u ever want to know what my issues are just PM me, Its easy enough to copy & paste as have saved as has been asked way to often since about 3 forums and my colt versions ago, Meanwhile sent u a friend invite

this could use an update but I just seem so tired even though its early AM

anyway, Mom's happy there , thats the most important thing and though u cant stop memory loss shes overall doing fine and engaged in many activities

Some things I dont like that give me more unexpected work when go visit & have made suggestions , some were accepted, some havent been

all in all cant complain about the place save for a high turnover of some key personnel, Like nursing staff , so once u note all things in particular Mom needs due to her special medical situations with the staff and are comfortable with them, that 1 o 2 nurse / nurses quits and u have to explain all over again, this has happened 3x with nursing staff since JUNE , thats not good and has occured with other key personnel as well .

Also wish I would be let known of key staf care changes so can educate new ones asap, not when ask for so & so nurse to find out why this isnt done in such a way as discussed only to find out that nurse I asked for isnt there. I could have educated new one before done wrong way and wouldnt have been an issue. Luckily I am on top of things so no problems have ever developed

Thats a procedural issue and of course the new nurses need time to learn about all resident issues , its just that i in general am a concerned son

Overall very glad picked this place

Moms hospitalized last 4 days , now home , but i caught her illness as highly contagious

I will be OK , just takes time, will self treat at home,

shouldn't need hospitalization and hopefully over By Sunday so can go with mom to COPD Dr Monday or have to cancel if I am still contagious

Not a pleasant illness believe me , Even told assisted living if Mom has to go back to hospital for any reason, I cant go to ER to meet her

I will be on site sparingly if at all, so far only posted the Never say Never moment vote link, otherwise staying in bed etc

Realize this is basically playoff time & seasons end but  I  will be around quite sparingly if can,

sorry I cant take time to comment & post as usual

 

whether on Colts or updates On Peyton, injury reports  , game summaries like have done

 

Mom fell, up all night with her at ER couple days back , I knew nothing broken as far as ribs and as she was least in danger there she was looked at last so was there a long time 

 

then last night fell again and this time well double fall in a row with 94 year old frail person with osteoporosis and

 

4 BROKEN RIBS , so obviously I'm elsewhere

 

Also whether its the stress or what but my meds not doing what used to., my body maybe getting used to them who knows , anyway some being adjusted and others totally switched to different of same class

Go Colts, Go Peyton , May the Lord sort out who wins the SB between the 2 

 

Luck is great & with all our cap space Colts will have a much more consistent team next year and become a force to reckon with for a long time

BTW Mom handling things great , as she says shes healthier than me, got to love the fight in a 94 year old with 4 broken ribs and other injuries

 

I am undergoing a battery of  tests  , Many IV's for support, & medicines being changed and others different dosing , am told will be at least 4 weeks just to check out   meds and may then adjust again, more IV's to come in meantime & awaiting test results

sounds like she is doing much better

 

 

hard to tell

 

her spirits are great, she is on some pain meds for rib fractures , one reason she doesn't feel as much pain as did when broke a rib in past unfortunate or fortunate pending how u look at it , but due to the COPD causing such shallow breathing the ribs dont move much with each breath and its the movement that cause the pain

 

If she caughs u can see the grimace, & I have to try to make sure she doesnt laugh, just hope they heal, esp the one that has some mild displacement

 

Now the 3 leg wounds , well the one that initially looked the best now is worse appearing, reddish about it, She has no idea if she bumped it of course as cant even tell u how initially got it

 

They are caring for it right , unless the individual care giver is doing something wrong I wouldnt know about or when they shower her rubbed it to hard ???  

 

The internist will be in Monday or Tues to take a look at it, he may or may not prescribe something pending his thoughts

as of  FEW DAYS BACK  heres the latest on me

 

I am undergoing a battery of tests , Many IV's for support 3 already another in 2 weeks

& medicines being changed and others different dosing again,

am told will be at least 4 weeks just to check out meds and may then adjust again,

more IV's to come in meantime & awaiting test results

 

also all this leads to as my Dr puts it states of confusion I am trying to deal with but affect

everyday activities

 

I am now for 4th week in a Row  I am sick starting Sunday right on cue & getting worse through tuesday then easing and slight only on Thursday , but well only Saturday

 

So far its stumping Drs, Such variety and over. lapping issues  its confusing to isolate each, still awaiting more tests

Unfortunately there is no one else, latest battery of tests all negative as well, 

 

I apparently picked something up in ER cleaning off mom without any gloves available nor a nurse, and that took its time incubating and now has all my systems wacky lets just say , 

 

We are trying something  but will take a month at least, and whatever it is well, it only accounts for a certain part of my problem, other things take time too but are identified and next test for those are in 2 weeks , then another med readjustment

 

Having various conditions at once is a problem , especially when each interferes with the healing & treatment  of the others

Sometimes they say....the worst place to be to get sick is the doctor's office or the hospital.  While I am glad your tests are negative for something serious, I am sure you would LIKE to know what is making you feel sooooo horrible....thinking about you buddy!  Thank you for the thoughts on Pops too

there is a  new procedure my brother told me about that may work on some issues , its the grossest thing i ever heard of & is a type of transplant but not like an organ transplant, I just cant write about it nor think about it, way to gross & thats a dr saying it

 

still need to get thryropid right first anyway before could even try that  , that's the retest of levels in 2 weeks i noted but after those we adjust does as well, 

 

an under  producing thryord ( hypothyroid ) i have had for years why all of a sudden we cant get a correct dose now for months is amazing, when first diagnosed  got initial and then just 1 adjustment,,  suddenly seems like with whatever else i got its interfering with the meds absorption  which if true may be affecting all my meds as well

 

Plus a bad thyroid hurts ones immune system so again it makes it harder to heal , I am in this crazy cyle that is just bewildering the experts & I mean the experts, national lectures and teachers etc etcf , heads of departments etc etc, Cutting edge medicine etc etc

 

what we r trying right now first to go along with correcting thyroid as of this am

 

 

Now he is having me eliminate about 5 things i do in my diet & supplements, all he had prescribed ,  that normally aids ones health, only have done them for 10 years , stop all for a week, then I have a schedule when to add each 1 back on a weekly basis trying to REBOOT ME LIKE A COMPUTER 

 

I still say its all do to being in ER cleaning up mom without gloves when nurses not around but was I supposed to let her lay in constant Vomit

 

It just incubated and then hit whatever this is

A transplant is risky but in the last post someone brought up a new way using stem cells on something that's not a thyroid gland. Hope it works out for you.

this is not your typical transplant, its not like a bodily  organ, its not a thyroid if u think i said that but do have thyroid issues  , its just so pure a disgusting idea I am not going to get into details on it

 

 

BTW MY NEWPHEW RUNs STEM CELL LABS FOR THE CLEVELAND CLINIC, or just did he quit so can move 

closer to his brother on east coast and has many job offers, has 2  Bio medical masters degrees and was only 1 ever to be allowed to go for his PHD at clevland clinic while running a full time lab  there , that is being the supervisor  so thats my family expert on cutting  edge stemcell, even does work for army in blood substitutes using stem cells research for on field battle wounds

 

 

 I highly doubt it will get to that transplant, much to try first, this slow  rebooting of my system may work, just takes time, the transplant is a quicker reboot, more like replacing all the programs in ones computer to original state using original  restore / recovery discs u get with your computer when first buy 1, however an outside source to gross to name & detail is used, similar to a bone bank when u need to add a piece of bone to lengthen a bone or place in a position so all fuse about it, R many reasons for an external bone graft

 

 I realy dont know much about it, just that it was mentioned and I cringed at the thought, not sure if done near me but if done In Dayton where my brother works It must be in  teaching hospitals in & around detroit & its suburbs,  Honestly u still may need some immuno suprresent, I just didnt ask but doubt it and hope wont get to that stage

 

anyway we still have to work on other issues first, as said I have many overlapping issues,

 

BTW I do take 3 bio identical hormones for years keeping my body levels accurate instead of synthetic ones  & every s 6 weeks need  5 doses  implanted in me, thats only a minor surgery that doesn't take long but yeah can still get infected but its only local, anesthesia and then get an IV after of many great vitamin boosters and antioxidants, in fact IO often go in for that early of fel real bad and gives me a quick pick up in energy and helps overcome minor issues

 

I also have blood tests to make sure the hormone levels are correct & meds implant correct dose

 

u named thyroid, thats 1 thing that has gone haywire this year, and last, suddenly I appear immune in sense that they have to keep increasing does and just today after mondays blood tests, well 2 tests were fine but again thyroid still way to low incredibly and again another adjustment upwards

 

This time its a major upward revision  adding 25 % more every other day

 

once all overlapping issues are cared for , then we can tell if rebooting works, will take a month and then again thyroid levels will be tested , & we shall see again if needs adjustment

 

we are trying to do this gradually as if give to much thyroid supplementation u can go into atrial fibrilation

Really Incredible

 

Now assisted Living internist based on  outside attendant   nurse's care recommendation wants me to take mom to 1st Dermatologist  & then possibly a wound care clinic as the 3 lesions that occurred when fell and broke 4 ribs around Christmas havn't healed & 1 has produced a  1/4 "   reddidh , raised, , 1 inch wide lesion with scab in center like volcano they dont know what it is.about 2 weeks back 

 

Appointment with Derrm next Saturday

 

MY PREDICTION - Not Needed, will heal in few weeks now that there is proper communication between 3 nurses there, the outside attendant nurse , and the care giver giving mom showers

 

Can U Say Lack Of Common Sense , Proper Communication between personnel, ASSUMPTION  & Refusal to take my advise = Pure stupidity 

 

& now most likely a waste of time, , with my disability just took me 2 hrs 2 fill out paperworh, 4 pages for dermatologist as had tyo do few times to get written clearly, and most were just check markks

 

Plus time involved with wheel cahir van and h going to DR etc

 

First off the  uneducated person that was allowed too change dressing initially had all 3 down from 3 " diameter  for 2 of them

to maybe 1/4  " for 2  to 1/3 " the most on  the other, then policy is to call after x days an outside attendant nurse who supposedly specialize in this 

 

I would of sworn all would be healed with 1 more week of that assted living person changing bandages and applying the meds 2x daily as I said I did when I cared for her & would of healed nicely 

 

The Outside attendant nurse switches from changing the bandage & Topical Antibiotic   Med twice daily to first 3x a week then for last month at least , only 2x a week, 

 

A topical antibiotic isnt good after a day or so, should of at least changed once daily & to remove bandage with wouund exudate, that is drainage so doesnt sit in it and infect area

 

Anyway I am there every Sat and Sunday at minimum to observe lesions and change bandage, I have no access to medicine however as not allowed

 

Ever since attendant  nurse called in lesions worsened, , 1 swelled , surrounding skin tissue of all 3 split, reddened &  area of whats called macerated as if moist & just plain unhealthy looking with some raw skin appeared

 

After to numerous to count phone calls to all I found out all the pages of detailed observations I left with nurse on duty day i was r there were never seen by the internist nor other nurses nor outside attendant nurse, even notes I had that nurse write in official chart lets say were never read by rest caring for my mother 

 

Thats Nothing, here the real issue that caused the skin to breakdown

 

again after speaking to nurse and to outside attendant care & now finally person who gives mom a few showers weekly  all assumed that person was washing the area during moms showers, but that person never got any instructions and never asked questions on what to do 

 

so she simply assumed to leave on bandage during shower and after mom just had these 3 wet soapy possibly dirty bandages on till the attend-dent came in  to change  the bandage , Man am I glad II put on fresh ones on weekends at least but these wet things are what caused moms skin to break down instead of heal

 

HAD MAJOR TALK WITH ALL< BLASTED ALL< BLASTED THE DIRECTOR WHO ALSO IS A NURSE ETC ETC 

 

& now  person giving showers   as per my instructions to her as told also to rest  lets soapy water just flow over areas after she removes bandages before shower, then just use that shower head apparatus to rinse off area again after all of body rinsed off, Pat area dry but no rubbing what so ever , and just apply bandage & don't worry about not applying any medicine as she's  not allowed , then made sure shower was 2 x weekly and same day outside nurse woiuld later come in y to apply fresh bandage with antibiotic

 

RESULT all look significantly better in just 1 to1.5 weeks, 1 healed totally, others so much healthier looking

 

I know that 1 area looks weird  that they require me to take her to a dermatologist but no one seems to understand that the  rest of the surrounding tissue is no longer red nor swollen and body now absorbing back exceess fluid and as continues I bet that area just slowly dwindles away if just continue to treat as is and faster if increase bandage changes But I have to follow their protocol & waste time at a dermatologist and as said if anything, a wound care specialist is right person to see not a dermatologu ist if really want outside opinion

Mom fell, broke hip, ripped off large patches of skin too in various areas of body, down to tendon

Problems with her meds, like not getting right breathing ones by hospital

now in sub acute center for 1`-2 months of rehab

fell there too first night as was disoriented, ripped off more skin but no problem with hip surgery

I am going bit nuts between my drs, my med needs and her needs

This will be a long term process

took 2.5 hrs of paperwork yesterday between surgeons office & subacute center, etc

Sleep is gone
