I don't think he would be a bad pick up for the right price, I mean he would make a great addition to our receiving corps that we already have. As far as him being injury prone and having an attitude, I don't think you can always worry about that because trust me the Colts plays aren't all a bunch of alter boys, we are just much better at keeping it in house.

WR is low on our priority list, because even though the actual WR position is not our deepest position I think we have enough players who can receive that we are good for one more season.  Allen and Fleener are more capable receivers than half the WRs in the league ... Fleener basically is a big WR & Allen is well on his way to being an elite TE. 

 

Not to mention Brazill, Whalen, and Palmer ... Any of whom have some skills & could easily step up and become #3 WR

 

Than we still have the wildcards Collie & Kelley...

 

Plus I am sure we will pick up some low risk-high reward type guys in free agency or as UDFA's

I am sure Robert Mathis the player is interested in adding another star player.  With that said I am sure Mathis is thinking about right NOW and not the future of the team at all.  I also doubt he knows what it would cost to get Harvin, how that would impact the cap in future years, and the risks that come with getting Harvin, how would adding Harvin and his contract impact you getting other players that you need, and I also doubt Mathis really cares about those things.  If you are just talking talent wise who wouldn't want Harvin?  When you start to measure the other things then it does become a question of if getting Harvin is a wise move or not.  That's why we have a GM to figure out the answers to those questions. 

 

Just because Mathis is interested in him doesn't mean the Colts are.  At the end of the day it's going to be Grigson that would have to answer for it.  Meaning if it goes wrong it's going to be Grigson that is held accountable for it not Mathis.  It's much easier to stand out there and oh heck yeah go get this guy when you aren't the one who will be held accountable for it. 

  well said, and the tweet that spawned this thread was part of about 3 tweets where Mathis said he was going on the recruiting trail to bring some hardware back to "naptown" I think it was just Robert, being Robert...He is just pointing out talent around the league and lobbying for all of it with no regard, to need, cap etc. just kind of half joking/half serious about rounding up available talent from around the league and bringing it back to Indy. I think this thread, although interesting is kind of overblown in that regard.....if Farve were available he would have pointed to him as well....just using Percy as an example is how I interpreted it in the context of all 3 tweets....

Majority of this forum was against us bringing in Davis, but look how that turned out. Wasn't Davis a "headache" for Miami, but turned it around with us? Most FA players are hard to deal with because the team they are on typically is bad.

Randy Moss proved that when he went to a great team, you can and do change for the better. Harvin only missed a few games for the first time ever this season, and I haven't heard anything about migraine issues keeping him off the field. I'm not saying BRING IN HARVIN, OMG THAT'S SUPER BOWL WIN GUARANTEED DERP! I am saying though he's worth a look, and I don't think he'd bring any attitude issues or locker room problems, especially with a team like Indy who is poised to make the playoffs and further for a long time now. Pagano and Grigson wouldn't allow him to be an issue.

Harvin is a guy that was supposedly banned from playing in high school for attitude problems. Then he went to Florida and had well documented attitude problems, including throwing a coach to the ground. Then went to Minn. and got into a physical altercation with Brad Childress and several shouting confrontations with Leslie Frazier. He has shown himself to be a problem everywhere he's been. Over the yrs. it seems many Colts fans are always talking about how classy an organization we have here and they pride theirselves on staying away from headcases. so my question is, why would any Colts fans even want this clown affiliated with the Colts?

As I said, I never stated we should bring him in. I was mostly pointing out something that tends to happen here a lot. I'm aware he has/had attitude issues. Sometimes though a change of scenery can fix those problems.

I agree that sometimes a change of scenery works, but the problem is, he has changed scenery 3 times and the issue's have followed him everywhere. Once is a mistake, twice is immaturity, 3 times is a trend and just who you are.

That's very true. I know if he could grow up he'd be an amazing addition to our arsenal, but it's too bad that probably won't happen.

I AGREE with you on that statement! Most people on this fourum always find something to nitpick about in regards to FA's and signing players. Like you said.. exactly as they did about Vontae Davis. I for one love Percy Harvin's game and play making ability and would be willing to give him a shot. I believe a change in scenery can do wonders for a guy along with strong leadership from the coaches and players.

 

Now with that said the only thing I dont like in regards to Harvin is the huge salary he will comand come next offseason.

Palmer was a top UDFA target who ended up signing with SF.  The reason he didn't crack the starting line up in SF is because there was a log jam at WR.  The Colts wanted him bad enough to sign him to their active roster ... he turned down offers from NE, Miami, & Ariz. while in San Francisco.  My point is plenty of people were interested in him, he was not just working at the 7-11 hoping for a call.

 

While I agree Brazill has only shown glimpses so far, he also has not got that much playing time.

 

Whalen looked good before injury.  Nobody got him from our practice squad because then they would have had to sign an injured player to their active roster.

 

I don't think they look too bad for guys who will be competing for the #3 spot, and I am sure Grigson will bring in some other under the radar low risk/high reward type guys to compete.

 

We also have 2 TEs that can catch better than half the receivers in the league, Fleener is as much a big receiver as he is a TE anyway.

 

So if we can get a "proven playmaker" at WR for a bargain price than sure l am all for it .... but it is NOT a high dollar priority.
