AFCCG aftermath

Recommended Posts

Haven't been on the board since Friday, and am trying to use a keyboard with one arm... long story short, I had a little climbing mishap on Saturday and spent most of Sunday/Monday/Tuesday and yesterday doped out of my brain on painkillers. (Which, I have to say, made the Patriots' loss a lot easier to take...) I barely remember the game itself. Had a quick outpatient arthroscopic on Monday and am on the mend.

But, since I've been here with my proud Patriots fan chest puffed out for a long time now, I wanted to type a one-handed "congrats to the Ravens" and acknowledgement that New England - and Brady - pretty much stunk the place up Sunday. There are too many "Patriots fans are meanies" threads and "Brady kicked Ed Reed" threads and other lovely little pot-shots for me to read them all. I take the same approach here that I've always taken -- it's easy to kick a guy when he's already down. Easy yes, but courageous or even creative? No. That said... be as critical as you want. They deserve it.

So consider this one Pats fan's "mea culpa" of sorts. They did not come through when it mattered most and did not play their best football at the most critical juncture of their season. That's what champions do, and this was obviously not their year.

It's funny, I remember reading once that "pain is the ultimate emotion." It trumps anything. Are you happy about something? Smash your thumb with a hammer and you'll have a hard time remembering what it was. Conversely, seeing the Patriots suffer a devastating loss was really tempered by the fact that I couldn't move and that it literally hurt to breathe. Quite frankly, at that point, I did not give a (expletive) what happened, lol...

Good luck to both the Ravens and 49ers. I respect both organizations immensely, and hope that they can at least give us a good, fun, entertaining game.

So until training camp... wishing everyone the best.

Very nice post.  I usually do not get into the Patriot arguments unless a fan is totally unreasonable or simply acting troll-icious (new scrabble word :))

It is always a bummer when 'your team' does not live up to expectations.  It is also amazing how a big loss can influence one's mentality before....during....and after a big game.  I guess that is why they have some sports psychology classes.   :funny:

It is going to be an interesting off-season all across the NFL, and that includes both of our organizations.  It should be fun!!  I for one enjoy a lot of your posts (obviously cannot say ALL :)) and hope that you continue to post and overcome your climbing injury!!  If it was anything like your avatar....it had to have been one 'heckuva' fall....good luck in your recovery

Uh, I dont know if you read it, but Brady was fined for that kick.. 10,000 to be exact.

For the love of all that is holy... you can't post without trying to pick a fight, huh?

Personally, I try to match my "online" personality to what you would get if you and I were sitting down talking face-to-face. The keyboard is the weapon of the passive-aggressive. I would not be an outright jerk to you in person, so I will not do it here.

Anyway, yes. I am aware. Brady worked it out with Ed Reed directly (texted/called), and if Ed Reed is OK with it, then anyone else who is still crying about it just needs to get over it. Things happen in the heat of the moment. The players understand it. Ultimately Reed was not injured and Brady will pay his fine. Let it go.

Whoa.. take a pill.. wait.. you are. I have heard painkillers make people agressive. I was pointing it out due to the fact you stated you dont remember much. Dont shoot the messanger. Perhaps your the one that needs to let it go and back off. Good holy oh mighty.

Broncolt my friend, I am not telling u what to say write respond in any way shape and form & yes u have a right to your  opinion

HOWEVER FYI

Go pats  was not part of  all the overt bickering Vs Peyton after his loss and not here after the AFC Champ game to see the Peyton Fan retaliation when Pats lost

Hes not a troll,He & Yehoodi I find quite reasonable and respectful & believe me I am a Peyton lover and couldnt stand any of the posts post peyton loss or post Brady loss that got in my opinion out of hand even when started as only an innocent comment

& go Pats doesnt need me to defend him, his past actions and comments have spoke for themselves, I am just reminding u of such

I went out of my way to say that I wasn't interested in any of the peripheral conversations about the game. As a fan I was trying to be gracious in defeat. I simply came on to tip my proverbial cap to the Ravens and to acknowledge that the Patriots - and Brady in particular - failed to deliver.

Your response, deliberately or otherwise, was antagonistic, given the tone I was trying to set. Don't pretend you were just trying to be "helpful." We all know that's not true.

you know what Broncolt . . . there a thread on here not too long ago started by Mr. Snow Globe about Bradys records that on its service was on the edge, but he decided to go over the edge with the particular records and predictions for next year . . . and it was in appropriate . . . as it was a stick in your face/out of context/out of the flow of things thread . . .

similiar your choice, in response to a pats fan that not only had a physical injury (real life not just a game) but is tipping his cap to the ravens and indicating that his team and Brady did not play well, you decide to go all postal and confrontional about a particular point in the game and not acknowledge the rest of this post . . .

you need grab a Pepsi from the frig and tone down your auto responses to pats fans threads/posts and stay in the flow of the thread and save comments like that for the brady slide thread . . .

its one thing for a passing in the night poster like Snow Globe, but another for a regular to get on his soap box . . .

I wish you well with the pain and recovery you will have to go through!

As far as the "Pats fan are meanies" threads, most of us know and understand that these were just an upset (probably inebriated) minority of all Pats fans.

I may not agree with your lifestyle (rooting for the Pats), but I appreciate the diversity fans of other teams (like yourself) bring to the boards.  It makes most of the threads MUCH more entertaining!

Have a speedy recovery and try not to smash your thumbs with a hammer too often!

I know this is off topic, but what the heck happened in your "mishap" that left you all beat up? If its a climbing accident, I'm sure it's a good story.

Not, it's not that flashy, lol... I dislocated my right shoulder for the third time. Had a bad accident about 15 years ago (THAT story is flashier, but longer and not terribly relevant ATM) and broke my scapula, clavicle, and humerus, and the shoulder has been really unstable as a result. Late Saturday morning I took a very minor fall on a relatively easy route but got a little tangled in the rope. My shoulder pops out pretty easy.

Serves me right, actually. I should have had it taken care of years ago. The arthroscopic procedure was aimed at stabilizing it, so hopefully it won't be a problem again.

But I know, when I am an old man, I will pay the price... I should start donating now for arthritis research!

Thank you for asking... very kind of you!

Ouch! Do you ever pop it in and out as a parlor trick to freak people out? J/K. Having it pop out ain't fun. I've had a few minor, sports related shoulder injuries, and joint instability is a pain in the rear. I feel for ya bro. I hope the surgery does the job. We need you here on the forum. I like having a fan of rival team that I can have objective arguments with. So take care of yourself.

Hope you heal up fast GoPats. Aren't you  a bit old to mountain climb. Ya know those bones don't heal so fast at your age;-)

The game? Brady and BB played scared. Nuff said. Still it was competitive in that it wasn't messy. Difference we usually make 3 and 2.

They made the 3rd down plays and stopped us from making them. Ballgame.

I enjoy the season more anyway and winning on Sundays for the sake of entertainment........ so I'm happy :)

anyway its gone, U have to wonder esp with so many likes if I was actually saying something wrong or if forum member I responded back to , no matter how diplomatic I wrote reported the post for some reason and it was taken down

Either that or it was in another thread that for life of me I cant find, also as I just got on and tried my first like for shecolts comments above this and computer says out of likes today, that is exceeded quota , how possible if first like of the day

so who knows , as II got so many likes maybe it overloaded the system and post self destructed ( LOL )

Most who post here have no problem steering clear of these sorts of squabbles

Moving forward we will be issuing warnings

I quickly ran out of "likes" this morning!

In all seriousness, and without sounding all sappy... thank you guys. I know it's just a message board but this thread is a testament to the goodness that lies in all people and our human compassion for one another. If Colts fans can wish a wounded Patriots fan well, perhaps there is hope for us all! LOL...

You guys are great though, I sincerely appreciate all the kindness.

I know THAT feeling......my least favorite friend is Arthur Itis!  Getting older.......for a lack of a better word....sucks!   :)

I will be stealing "Arthur Itis" and taking credit for it someday. ;)

I stick to simpler party tricks like:

- Walking on my hands

;)

Well you know what they say... it's not the years, it's the mileage. ;)

I completely LOL'ed at "right shoulder probable," very clever!  I suppose that's how Belichick would list me right now. Or maybe just "torso."

I started climbing at a really young age (big family, youngest of six kids, so our family vacations were always hiking/camping trips) and never looked back. There's nothing like it for me. Not just from the rush and the physicality of it, but being in some of the most beautiful places on the planet, and truly feeling that connection to it. I worked as a guide for several years and could always tell, with new people, if they got hooked or not. Doesn't take much for most folks. Get them out, make them work a little, and then reward them with an amazing view or an unforgettable experience... ahh!

Glad to hear your Ok GoPats, I know it was a tough loss for the patriot faithful but there is always next year.  I'll keep you in my thoughts and wish you a speedy recovery!  Take it easy and enjoy the off season as well

Thanks very much! Tough loss indeed... as BB said, "At this time of year, it's either euphoria or a crash landing." I apparently took that a little too literally though. ;)

Man of your age climbing mountains....sheesh.....

And don't kid us, with your climbing injuries. You dislocated your shoulder bashing out all those 'I Love Brady' posts.....go on, admit it..... (sent you a PM btw).

You got me Wallace. I didn't know that throwing a remote control at your TV could result in a shoulder dislocation! Go figure!
