Give them this a 1st this year, next year's 2nd and 3rd. Maybe a player thrown in.Revis is the best defensive player in the league when healthy.

Dude your Crazy!! a 1st then a 2nd and a 3rd next year? for a player coming off an anterior cruciate ligament injury?! And a "player" too?! geeez. this years draft is deeeeep in top flight CB's, man. Your list doesnt include all the players we cant resign because Revis' contract will surely be 80 mil plus! ....on ONE guy coming off a MAJOR injury?! so here it is....Theres a 1st round cornerback to draft, and a second round Safety to draft...and a third round Defensive back to draft....plus at least 80 mil to spend in F/A....all gone for one player. you dont follow football much, do you?

According to ESPN New York, Darrelle Revis is "believed" to be seeking $16 million annually and $60 million guaranteed on his next contract.

For perspective, Mario Williams signed a contract last March paying him $16 million per year but with "only" $50 million guaranteed. It made him the highest paid defensive player in league history. New Jets GM John Idzik met with his All-Pro cornerback on Friday, but was noncommittal on Revis' future at his introductory press conference, which speaks volumes. The Jets only have Revis signed through 2013. Mired in the worst salary cap situation in football, the Jets simply won't be able to pay the man.

Yes!!!!!!  Lets get Revis, I'm not sure how it would work out but perhaps we could trade a 2013 first, third, and a 2014 second, and then Revis would be ticked because he's not going to be getting enough $$$ so he'd sit out and we'd be forced into paying a huge amount for him to get a guy comparable to! Behold!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Glass

I'm not familiar with trade rules but if we could get a Superman (when healthy) version of Mr. Glass then I'm all for it as long as the price is right.  No 60 million $ contract and no massive multi year draft picks.  We don't want to be the Redskins or team Nightmare (Eagles).

Vontae Davis has potential to be a top CB, might as well find someone who's actually manageable to compliment him, seems like the Jets and Revis aren't really manageable.

One thing I'm confused about if the Jets are seeking a first and second, does that mean that the Colts would still have to pay Revis a lucrative 50-60 million/xxx yr contract???

Pretty much a given that if a team is willing gto give up a 1st and a 2nd , they will first want him to agree to a contract extension. It is no secrete that he is looking for 15-16 million per years. So the answer to your question woud be yes and the 50-60 you mention is just the guaranteed money that he is hoping to get. So figure at the least 5 years at close to 70 mill.

I read an article, stating that ACL is a very very difficult injury for a CB to overcome. Like many already said, he would demand a huge salary; 16 mil a year, 60 mil guaranteed! That's insane, plus the picks we would ship to new york.

Grigson said many times, that he wants good guys, and a good lockerroom. I'm not sure revis is that kind of guy.

We have far too many needs to waste time, picks and money on a 28-year old CB coming off a major injury. Use the money and the picks on the entire team, instead of having one good player.

If he is healthy i don't have an issue with 15-16 million per season. We just paid Freeney that for his last couple dominating seasons. The question is what do we have to give up. That to me is probably where I would end discussions. If we are talking 3rd rounder and conditional picks...ok. Anything else I'd be balking. I don't think money would be a huge issue for us and clearly our talent on defense is lacking...but what this allows is for you to lock down a side of the field and rotate safety help to the other side which makes life very very difficult for the other team. Your other corner can be physical at the line without fear of getting beat because he has a safety behind him...and Davis a physical corner would probably benefit.

When I look at adding players I look at ways that we can upgrade multiple spots by adding 1 or 2 players....how is that. Example we sign a stud left tackle...this allows us to move Costanzo over to right (where I think he is better suited) and suddenly you not only have a better left tackle...but a better right too. Same here with corners. You add a #1 corner and it allows Davis to fit that #2 where he belongs. To me its doing those type of things that turn around teams fast. Case in point with Baltimore's o-line. Mckinney goes to left tackle and this moves Oher to right and they get better at both positions...and it kind of trickles down.

That all said I would put 90% chance he is going nowhere.

Just read an article that discusses why the Jets might move Antonio Cromartie rather than Revis. Jimmy Raye, the Colts newly hired VP of Football Operations, was the Director of College Scouting for the Chargers when they drafted Cromartie in 2006 (yes, and he was the Director of Player Personnel when the Chargers traded Cromartie to the Jets). Cromartie probably would come at a "cheaper" price both in salary and draft pick(s) than Revis. The article also suggests that the Jets might release him, so he'd be a free agent and not cost any picks. If Raye vouched for him, would he be a better option than Revis, who's coming off of an ACL injury?

Great corner but way to much $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I heard something like 18mil on ESPN. I don't see anyway we can work that deal and address all of our other needs unless he is willing to take a pay cut. He would be a great addition in "building the monster" though. I think if we were a little closer to a championship he might consider.

I'm all for getting another corner, but NOT shelling out the picks, players, and $$$ it will require to get Revis.  We don't need another #1.  We need a solid #2 who isn't so easily picked on, and a pass rush.
I don't think you realize the effect Revis would have on the pass rush. A lot of the exotic blitz schemes and things Rex Ryan is able to do is because Revis takes out the best reciever on the other team

Super Mario was never worth the money. He never came close to producing at the level Revis Island has produced at so far.

I think we'll add a CB through free agency, somebody like Cary Williams. He's not great but I think he would be a serious upgrade for us and give us another good CB to pair with Davis. The money Revis is rumored to want is ridiculous IMO, I've heard he wants around the 16 million a yr. range. I don't care if he's the best CB in the league or not he is not worth that type of money. IMO that type of money should be reserved for QB's and only QB's. If a team is willing to sink 20 some million dollars a yr. into the CB position, it will be awful hard to build a competitive all around team.

16 mil a year is qb only money ? Tell that to freeny

I dont want Revis on the Colts due to his selfish attitude but I could deffinitly understand why a team (maybe the colts) would give up multiple picks for him.  A first rounder is undoubtedly a contributing player for years, but honestly how many turn out to be the best defensive player in the league? And thats exactly what Revis is! The colts have ALOT of money to play around with and while Revis requires a huge contract to keep around, they wouldnt be breaking the bank bringing him in.  He just doesn't fit the persona the Colts have developed as a classy team centered organization.

The goal of every team, every year, is to make it to the SuperBowl. Will adding Revis, but taking away available funds and a first round pick get us to the Super Bowl next year? Is there a better way to get us there?

I look at the Ravens and the Niners, both teams with stout offensive and defensive lines. I think that's a better starting point. Neither team has a bad secondary-- but no one like Revis. I think we can look for quality at all positions, rather than a gem at one or a few positions. I'd rather look to upgrade just about everywhere than just some positions. By paying Revis too much, we will limit what we can do.

CB1 Revis

CB2 Davis

FS Reed

SS Bethea

One heck of a secondary right there....

Yes it would be...young team young defensive backfield (If we go defense)...Banks or Amerson in the 1st and Zeke Motta in the 5-6RD

CB1 Davis

CB2 Banks or Amerson

FS Bethea (*9 million cap hit next year!!!)

SS Motta...

He definitely didnt play like a 9 mil $ safety this year....

I think we may draft or sign a FS and move him back to SS, but he may just need another year under Pagano and the new D look.

Bethea's cap hit for 2013 is $5.75m, less than the $6.225m cap hit in 2012. Not $9m. His contract was smartly front-loaded with bonuses and guaranteed money. It's one of the more favorable contracts Polian did in his time here, and should be a model for the contracts we do moving forward. That structure is basically saving close to $2m in cap space in 2013 (the traditional signing bonus model would have made his cap hit $7.3m), and laid the groundwork for an easy extension (although I don't think Bethea's play has warranted an extension the past two seasons, so he'll likely play the contract out).

WOW...  I am shocked to see that the majority of folk on this site would trade for Revis??  So many on this site don't want to pay to get a OT on board but will gladly shell out picks AND $$  to get a diva CB?

I am not paying ANY DB 16+ million a year, let alone one that is coming off of MAJOR knee surgery and who wants to talk turkey every year.   Dude is never happy.

This dude would cost a King's ransom AND demand a salary that would eat roughly 40% of Indy's available free cap space.

Dang Indy could get a top flight OT AND  OG for 16m per......

NO THANKS...

So you're saying that you wouldn't want arguably the best defensive player in the NFL on this team? You have to pay to play regardless of the route you choose whether its OT/G or Revis and you can't say that DB isn't a position of need with what we seen out of the players not named Davis.

Absolutely, the O-line needs help but with what Revis is asking it isn't going to be that much different than what a premier tackle is going to ask for with the exception of having to give up a draft pick or two.

I personally don't think you could go wrong either way... All-pro defensive player or elite tackle/guard, both are smart decisions which ever is chosen.

Bleacher Report ~9million...?

The bolded is the problem. I trust Spotrac and Rotoworld waaaay more than I trust Bleacher Report. Especially when those two sites say the same thing.

Four years, $27m, $4m signing bonus, $6.65m roster bonus in 2010 (roster bonus does not amortize over the life of the contract), 2013 has a $200k workout bonus + base salary of $4.55m.

So the cap hit in 2013 is determined as follows:

Signing bonus of $1m ($4m signing bonus divided by four years = $1m per year), workout bonus of $200k, base salary of $4.55m = cap hit of $5.75m. Not $9m.

The reason I think the structure is smart is because they essentially gave Bethea a $10.65m signing bonus, but $6.65m of that was designated a roster bonus, meaning it is isolated to the league year in which it's paid, whereas a signing bonus is spread out evenly over the life of the contract. Remember that 2010 was an uncapped year, so we didn't have to worry about cap space, meaning we could frontload his deal, so long as we didn't exceed the threshold determined by the CBA. It was a good way to take advantage of the rules and make it easier to bear his contract in later years. Also would have made it easier to release him in the future, if he wasn't playing at a high level.

Even if it's at 12 mil a year which i doubt lets just say it's 10 mil it'll be still worth it. Revis is one of the Top 10 players in the nfl that's including QB's he can change an offense entire gameplan because he always shutdown the teams best wr. As great as he is he will not cost any team a 1st because they would have to pay him 10 mil a year. I can guarantee you that grigson has already made an offer to the jets GM. We were a cb away from beating the ravens and possibly upsetting the broncos.

Holy cow.....  if you think the Colts were just a cornerback away from beating the Ravens.....    then we were watching two completely different games.

Seriously.     I have no idea which game you were watching?    Not even close......

I absolutely do not want Revis and I hope the Colts are not interested, right now I say they are not since they feel they have their true #1 CB in Davis and can sign a cheaper FA or use the draft to help out.

Not that I don't like Revis as a player, but this dude is alllllllllll about money. Every single season. What he wants is ridiculous and you would have go give up picks too.

And who is to say he would not get hurt again? He is coming off an ACL tear.

    • Man I feel real strong about Brian Thomas jr. I think it's on and cracking if we get him. His game is just consistent and he is such a hard cover. I like him being paired with Pittman. I really do!
    • This is probably the most exciting nonplaying event of the year and it’s tomorrow. I just hope that Balllard  and the scouting department I’ve done their job thoroughly
    • @2006Coltsbestever @NFLfan   Kirk has been treated much better and with much more respect than Wentz was treated in Indy. And was showed with Love and truckloads of money in Minnesota, and was defended constantly with much more ferocity by Vikings fans than people defending Ballard in Grievances thread.    it'd be crazy to think of injustice against Kirk for a few minority who criticize his play.    We're Going back and forth on Kirk debate which will go on for eternity, but I struck Gold when I saw recently @Superman explaining how he felt watching Wentz playing with other teams before he got to Indy and how it felt watching him play for Colts when you're emotionally invested with the franchise.    There's no other way to perfectly describe Kirk Cousins' career and his QB play.   For every fan around the NFL, especially for fantasy football fans, Kirk will be a hero and am above average QB. But, when you're emotionally invested in your favourite franchise and Kirk plays QB for your team, you would come close to understanding how excruciatingly frustrating his play and smartness and game awareness are (or shortage of them are), that all contributes to team missing playoffs many years and even when they qualify, no one sees Kirk as a threat in playoffs. Ever. Your team would be paying Elite QB Money for that, and you'd be constantly in debate with criticizers Vs defenders. Until he plays for your team, you won't realize that, and I totally understand.    Anyway, happy to pass on that frustration over to Falcons fans, they'd know soon. First of all, Kirk takes at least a season or two to trust his OL, even if you put an elite line and weapons around him, and it's all in his head. I'm going to sit back and read Falcons forums for Fun in 2024 Season! Good Times!
    • I have no idea how it will all shake out, but I have my popcorn ready.
    • There are no owners in the NFL that are perfect people. Some owner's demons are more public, some not so much, but they all have them. There's much more to the free agency issue and the Colts than most are aware of. There are a lot of intangibles most will never consider. That said, there is more to almost every aspect of any organization that most will ever be aware of. Those are often the things that matter most.
