Payton - http://www.nfl.com/n...ints-head-coach

Williams - http://www.nfl.com/n...r-coaching-jobs

Interesting that they are allowing Williams to interview for a job, even though he is still suspended indefinitely.

Thoughts?

Semantics, it all comes to the same thing.

Not sure how I feel about Williams being allowed to interview, it seems like it's silly to not lift his ban, but you know your going to lift it if he gets hired.

Was 1 year enough for what he "did" or was it too much?

Meh; I don't take too kindly to decisions that have the potential to end someone's career. I like the way Goodell handled Vick's reinstatement (many thought Vick should be gone for life), and I could see him handling Williams' the same way.

I think Williams' best path back to the NFL is going to be a position coach or a consultant for another team. That way, the team can handle whatever remaining suspension he receives from the league, and then he can start working again. Similar to how Goodell handled Jim Tressel with us.

I don't want to bother with the politics of it all. If the NFL is going to allow Williams back at some point, I think that's the right way to do it.

Ahh, so you think that he will be handed down a certain amount of games for suspension if he is signed by a club? Wouldn't that really deter a club from signing him? I feel like they should just hand that number out now, so he could possibly draw more interest, if they are really interested in letting him go back to work.

Didn't stop the Eagles from signing Michael Vick. His suspension was conditional, and wound up getting reduced to the first two games of that season. It worked out well for him and the Eagles.

In Williams' case, I figure Goodell will make his eventual reinstatement conditional, and once he has an agreement to join a team, those terms will be released. I agree that it could hurt his chances of getting a coordinator job (most of them are taken at this point anyway), but he could get hired as a consultant or assistant, and then he'd have a pathway back to full reinstatement.
