It goes back way further than that, I brought this up last season.

your right. im not sure any team has ever played the super bowl in their stadium. anyone wanna correct me

They awarded New Jersey a SB...why not foxborough? Goodell even brought up KC as a possible host. Personally I think cold weather sites are a horrible idea.

I completely agree that cold weather sites are a horrible idea. I MUCH preferred the old way of doing it. A permanent neutral site would be even better - like how the UK uses Wembley.

However note that NJ has a brand new stadium a few miles from one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world, and that it's winter weather is nothing compared to New Englands. I live in NJ, and my friend in CT ALWAYS has far more snow than us, and it stays on the ground a lot longer. And he's a long way south of Boston (which isn't remotely the "destination" that NY is).

I'm rather excited it's going to be in New York the up coming season. Despite how bad this is with the weather, I don't think we have to worry about either joke teams being in the big dance.

I liked when Steve Johnson did the Plaxico touchdown celebration.  Making fun of both New Jersey teams.

You're right, though the NFL would love to have Eli v.s. Tebow in NYC. Would be the game of the century lmao.

As a fan I feel all SBs should be located at least NEAR a city. I don't understand these stadiums that are 40miles away from the town they represent. The Dallas/Miami stadiums come to mind, and I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure Foxburogh is out in the boonies.

I like how Indy did there's. right smack dab in the middle of town.

I agree with you. I haven't been to the Superdome since the 2000 season, but I know how close that was in the city. Talk about a nightmare drive....I've been to the Georgia Dome too, I can't imagine driving out to a stadium that is so many miles outside the city like the Cowboys stadium.

Wait.. a Saints fan went to the Georgia dome? How many times did you get stabbed? haha

None! I went years ago, and I will say I had a great experience. I sat around all Falcons fans too, and we were really cool. No trash talking, no cussing or any of that. We all got along great. They were very mature. I've been to 3 Saints/Falcons games, and never had issues with Atlanta fans. They are a classy bunch, or at least the ones I met in person.

Nope, it's never happened.  Indy was pulling to be the first team in NFL history to do it and we saw how that went.

I remember. There was speculation Manning would be ready for the week 1 game of the season. Turns out he wasn't ready for the ENTIRE season!

Indy made a great host. They also treated us volunteers well, lots of warm gear!

Also came up with such creative ideas, and the village, that now every host sites wants to have.

Only thing was at times, traffic was terrible. Thankfully my sister lives in Indy, and goes to school downtown so she gave me the back roads after one day of traffic jams.

I could say the same for Saints fans for the one game in New Orleans I went to. Really friendly people there -- been to Mardi Gras a few times too, and while I can certainly do without the crowds and out of towners (pot, meet kettle), the "natives" were very hospitable :)

New Orleans would have to be maybe my #2 spot of the stadiums I've been to. Minnesota is #1 for me.

How does being in Foxborough (which is outside of Boston), not represent New England?

It's not the Boston Patriots anymore.

Anyway, I don't think that the Patriots will ever get to host a SB. Foxborough lacks the necessary infrastructure . Boston could easily handle it, but not Foxborough.

Patriots Place is an outstanding "village" around Gillette. Great restaurants, shops, etc. just not large enough for a SB.

Im not saying it doesnt represent New England, I was suggesting its a significant amount of time away from a city. What is it 30 miles from Boston? My point was I was surprised that so many stadiums are several miles away from the nearest city. Thus making it inconvenient for SBs. I was merely singing the praises of how some cities (like Indy) have the stadium directly in the center of town.

If you ever drove into Boston, you would agree with the decision to build the stadium somewhere else.  That city is much worse to drive in than NYC.

I heard they're building a casino near Gillette?

It is important to note that each of these things factors in differenty. The main thing to consider is the overall experience. For example, if you took weather out of the equation, Chicago would still be a terrible venue for the SB. Despite being smack dab in the center of one of our nation's greatest cities, the experience would leave much to be desired. I would affirm that the specific location within the city matters a great deal as well. While Soldier Field's lakefront location may be aesthetically pleasing, it creates parking nightmares. 3 years ago I attended the Colts Pats epic 33-31 comeback game. I paid $20 to park 2 blocks from the stadium. I thought I was dreaming. In Chicago, I have paid upwards of $50 to park 5 miles away and take a schoolbus to the stadium for a PRESEASON game. I mention this not to bash Chicago (I do LOVE the city itself) but to enphasize that SB venues must be chosen holistically, not just item by item from a list of requirements.

Miami I think might have been the easiest stadium to get in and out of that I've been to. New Orleans I would say is "average". Minnesota now has decent public transportation right to the dome (better than when you used to have to park somewhere downtown), but EVERYONE uses it and it takes a while to get through the line. I parked in someone's yard in Jacksonville once, and there's only a couple main roads that get to the stadium over the bridges...so its a bottle neck. Tampa is fairly easy...DC was a traffic nightmare the one time I went there. Of course I'm not from any of those cities, so I have limited knowledge of the best way to get around there. I've been to 20 or so NFL games over the years - about half of them in Minnesota, so I'm most familiar with that one.

Personally, I prefer the stadiums that are out of town, but I do agree that for a super bowl, you want it in a city.

Exactly. I hate when people forget this. New York only has the Bills and even they don't play all 8 home games there.

I hear you, but that type of thing never bothered me much. I stick my chest out for my state when necessary, but the fact remains that I grew up in the NYC suburbs, from a family who 1-2 generations back were born in the city. It's pointless to pretend that East Rutherford would warrant an NFL team on it's own merits, and I freely refer to the "Dallas Cowboys" for example regardless of where their stadium is located. I don't expect more from others. We are here because it's the NY metropolitan area. The ONLY time that anything related to this issue irritates me is when NYers act as if they are somehow superior by nature of where the geopolitical line was drawn. Annoying as sin.

I'd rather have a Colts v NFC Champion Super Bowl in the Antartic Stadium, than a Patriots v Giants Super Bowl in Miami.

Being realistic, it's the Big Game. If your team gets to go, and you get a ticket, who really cares where it is. And if it may be 'too cold' or 'too far away', then just sell your ticket. This is all coming across as a bit 'wussy' to me. And if the Fat Cats don't like it, well good. It will be a sell out no matter what.

I was only looking at it from competitive aspect. Fact is, poor climate can put a team at a disadvantage....especially a dome team like the colts.

....and people need to stop with the "soft" and "wussy" comments when it comes to this subject. I didn't realize watching millionaires play a game while you wear artic gear from north face made one tough.

Of course it doen't make you tough, but why should those who regularly sit in the cold and watch their own team be denied because those who are used to a nice warm cosy stadium feel that it's wrong?

For every tough outdoor condition the Colts will face, they'll get about three / four in the warmth. You take the good with the bad.

And if you really don't want to go and watch your team because it's 'too cold', then that would be a shame.

The extreme winter weather in the midwest and northeast in the states is far worse than it is where you live. When wind chills are in double digit negatives and frost bite and hyperthermia are pretty regular. It seems irresponsible to me

It has nothing to do with me sitting in the cold...I would just prefer the biggest game of the year to be played in decent conditions.
