I think this - from the article - is a very nice synopsis of why Andrew should be ROY:
"But Indy can't quibble with what has been one of the league's most remarkable rookie seasons.
Luck won more games than any quarterback taken No. 1 in football's modern draft era. He tied an NFL record by leading Indianapolis to seven fourth-quarter wins. He presided over a nine-game turnaround from 2011 on a team that many expected to be the league's worst, finished with the league's best record (9-1) in one-possession games and broke the franchise record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (five).
He also threw more passes (627) and for more yards (4,374) than any first-year quarterback in league history while breaking the single-game rookie record for yards passing (433) and falling 15 completions short of Sam Bradford's rookie mark for completions (354 to 339). Luck finished third all-time among rookies in TD passes (23), trailing only Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson (each with 26), and had a better quarterback rating (76.5) than Manning (71.2) or John Unitas (74.0) in their rookie seasons.
And Luck did all that with six receivers who had never lined up with the Colts until September, despite the pressure of replacing Manning and during a season in which his offensive coordinator spent 12 weeks as the interim head coach before returning last week.
Luck never allowed any of that stuff to sidetrack him.
"Ever since the first day I saw him, he's been a leader. He doesn't really get razzled or get nervous or anxious or stuff like that," right tackle Winston Justice said. "Did he grow some? Maybe, but I didn't really see it. He's been a good player since the first day he got here."
Still, Luck's completion percentage is just 54.1, largely because the Colts have taken so many chances down the field. He threw the third-most interceptions in the league (18) and lost five fumbles, too, mistakes Luck took personally.
But if quarterbacks are judged simply by wins and losses, Luck is already among the league's best.
Only four quarterbacks — Manning, Tom Brady, Matt Ryan and Matt Schaub — won more games than the two-time Heisman Trophy runner-up this season. Only two others, Wilson and Aaron Rodgers, matched Luck's win total. Luck has beaten three playoff teams (Minnesota, Green Bay and Houston) and like Joe Flacco, Mark Sanchez and T.J. Yates over the last several years, will try to prove Sunday that rookie quarterbacks can win on the road in the playoffs."
Also, I never thought of it like that - but YES, we did beat three playoff teams!

Good write-up. FInally a little respect as of late; you cannot listen to NFL Radio or watch SportsCenter or NFL Network and find a "positive" look on Andrew Luck's rookie campaign IMO. This was a nice article focusing on the good and the bad of the season but put everything into context-- something the "experts" cannot do.
WELCOME HOME CHUCK!!!
Sky's the limit! #COLTSTRONG
Will shave my neck beard when Luck and the Colts win a playoff game.

I agree I can hardly watch Sportscenter anymore with the amount of coverage they give RGIII. They treat him like he is the second coming. Regardless, if you watch Mike n Mike in the morning, and some of the analysts I like, Cris Carter and Jaws they give Luck his due. Cris Carter and Golic were just asked a week ago if you had to choose amoung the three knowing what you know, whow would you take, and both chose Luck. In the end, they want the pure pocket passer with all the athletic ability, intangibles off the chart, who is not going to have their shelflife shortened due to injuries and hits. Also, I believe as the league gets to know the read option offense more, you are going to see his numbers go down, much like Cam Newton's this year did.

I'm willing to bet dozens and dozens of rookie quarterbacks had a better rating than that, nice name drop by the authour though. When it comes down to it, the only thing Luck supporters can hang their hat on is wins, which is a team achievement. RG3 is the rookie of the year. The Colt's defense carried the team. In their 11 victories, opponents averaged 18.2 points per game, which is good for 5th in the league, which is pretty good since Luck had a lot of turnovers. I see a team with a great defense that has it's bad days. I don't know where the myth started with ESPN pundits that Andrew Luck is working with nothing. They clearly have an agenda...
Andrew Luck isn't even top 5. I'd give it to Hilton before him.
RG3, Muscle Hamster, Morris, WIlson should be way ahead of him. But the hype carries him...and the cancer storylline...

Yes...the 26th ranked defense carried the team while the 7th ranked passing attack just let them take all the glory. Just a bunch of dead weight, I say!
Go home, Skip!

Cam's stats barely went down, and his passer rating improved. Everything is not in a vacuum...

Yet they played like the 5th ranked defense in all of those team victories.

Umm, it was the volume of attempts. 18th scoring offense. Far from an offensive juggernaut and below average. Considering the horrible point differential, this might be the worst 11 win team of all time. Shaky QB. Very good defense that can wet the bed any given game. A team that doesn't do anything well. I think luck is about to run out.

Great article. Those pictures make me cold! It's been freezing here in Indiana, and outdoor practice, yuck!
Also, I'm glad we took Luck. RGIII has already shown he's a risky pick with the read offense. Its also easier for defenses to figure out. I don't think he can be as healthy or last as long in the NFL.

Yes. Volume discredits production. Your logic is spot on. The only time I've thought of our defense as "very good" was this last game against Houston. They played pretty well. But they've been sub par all season and that stats are there to prove that.

This past week I have been hearing most of the gurus pick Luck for OROY. Mel Kiper still picks him as well and he started this whole Luck-best-since-Elway thing. That comparison has almost been a curse rather than a blessing. All of the gurus are saying the same thing now. Only number one pick to go to playoffs his rookie year, best turnaround and did more with less than Griffin and Wilson. They throw out the numbers as well. Cowherd LOVES Luck. He says when you determine how many times he's thrown the ball, that his number of interceptions per attempt is not that bad...Go Luck.
Posted 03 January 2013 - 12:49 PM
Agreed...RG3 should never be compared to Cam, he's simply much better....I'm not shocked by the amount of media coverage...they loved him at Baylor too. The experts basically said Luck's game wasn't sexy enough...he was efficient, won games but he had no "Heisman Moments" anyone remember that?? Luck was lame and boring and RG3 was exciting....to be honest Washington's MVP is a little dude from Pensacola, FL named Alfred Morris...he's their savior....
^Yes...this!^

In this video about which rookie QB will likely move on, it is like ALuck is not even talked about for even a second. Ha!
