FIRST Its Destiny TIME ,  GO Colts, Chuck Strong, the rookie Caravan & great veterans shall prevail

==========================================================

And it seems like old news to say that Manning finished the season with nearly every significant single season franchise record, including ranking first in Bronco history in

completions (400), passing yards (4,659), completion percentage (68.6%), touchdowns (37) and passer rating (105.9).

Oh, and by the way, he only had 11 interceptions in 2012, making him the only quarterback in NFL history to have those combined statistics in a single season.

“One” is not a very long list.

Manning would be the first to cite his offensive line which protected him, and his receivers who caught the ball.

Peyton Manning's glove and why it's so important

allows grip in cold weather as nerve injury still hinders it

Q & A

I have followed Peyton Manning closely since his freshman year at Tennessee. Against Cleveland was the first time in Peyton's career he has ever worn a glove. Is this a result of his nerve injury and inability to grip the ball in cold weather?

As an aside, notice how even with a new offense, he doesn't need a play-calling cheat sheet on his wrist

--Rodney, Asheville, N.C

As a cynic, I was ready to say Manning's ability to pass through inclement weather was the last of the unanswered questions regarding his comeback -- and reason for concern come the elements of playoff football.

But the glove changes everything. He does wear it for grip purposes, an acknowledgement that the nerve regeneration from his neck surgeries isn't 100 percent recovered -- which adds an exclamation point to his remarkable comeback. I mean, the guy's still not completely healthy and he still threw for more than 4,600 yards while compiling a 13-3 record, 37 TDs and just 11 picks.

I think the glove also illustrates some surprising flexibility in Manning's personality. He's been so regimented in his routine over the years, I didn't think he had it in him.

In the first game of his 15-year career with the glove, game 15 against Cleveland, Manning threw two, pinpoint touchdown passes, one to Demaryius Thomas, the other to Eric Decker.

He threw the ball well last week in game 16 against Kansas City. In fact, it looks like the glove has taken some wobble out of Manning's throws. In his two games with the glove, he has completed 53 of 72 (73.6 percent) for 643 yards, 6 TDs, 1 pick and a 122.6 passer rating.

At 36, Manning has stumbled on to something.

If the Broncos make it to the Super Bowl and the Superdome in New Orleans, I say Manning sticks with the glove.

And you're right about the wrist band play list, Rodney. I've always thought a significant difference between Manning  & other Elite Qb's .

Wow, what is Clady's injury??? It's very strange. John Fox reported no injuries after the game. I listened to some Denver radio today, and no one mentioned this.

Peyton now has most of the QB records of the Broncos after just one sweeeeet season. I'm glad Elway's goal was to make him the best QB in the Broncos history :) Mission accomplished.

Congrats to Peyton. And yeah, 200-yard used to be a big, big deal. Not anymore, I guess :)

Check this out:

http://blog.denverbroncos.com/denverbroncos/inside-the-numbers-week-17/

I didn't realize the Broncos were the only team in the league that didn't allow a single 300-yard passer. Combine that with the QB who passed 300 yards 9 times!

And this:

The Broncos are one of just three teams in NFL history to win 11 consecutive games by seven or more points. Denver joins the 1942 Chicago Bears (11) and the 2005 Indianapolis Colts (13) as the only teams to accomplish that feat. Manning was the signal caller for two of those three teams.

BayAreaBronco if we are lucky enough to have Manning playing for another few yrs you will start to ignore all these regular season successes by Manning since he has always been able to do his job starting his days with Colts. Eventually it will be his playoff games and # of superbowl rings that determine how people rank him among all QBs in NFL history.

The use of the glove "before it gets cold", is just one of those little things that makes him special. He had been practicing with it for a couple of weeks before wearing it the past two weeks in the game, just attempting to get used to instead of just being like "oh wait it's 25 degrees let me try a glove".

This is similar to him and Saturday working with a wet ball/bucket of water when taking some snaps leading up to the Super Bowl when a nice forecast was expected.

Little details.

Apparently, the former San Diego State standout did not acclimate to Front Range weather conditions during college road trips to Mountain West schools such as Air Force, Colorado State and Wyoming.

“I’m from California,” Hillman said Wednesday, “so anything below 30 or 40 (degrees) is cold to me.

MORE ACCOLADES TODAY

Little details.

Hers some big details

ACCOLADES KEEP COMING

named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for December,

the National Football League announced on Thursday.

((((( 11 straight wins to get 1st place seed, new team, many 4th qrtrs didnt pad stats  usually handed off to run off time and only 3 -5 throws in some games 4th qrtrs  unless needed a comeback win even directing a 10 minute time consuming drive where his only 2 throws were for 1st downs

YES I AM BIASED  , give him the MVP or make it a co mvp, both  he & AP in own way deserve it, no debate here please enough in another thread  ))))

check out DEC , he totally out played others

Manning completed 123-of-174 passes (70.7%) for 1,399 yards with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions (108.4 rtg.) in the month of December while leading Denver to a 5-0 record and the top seed in the AFC.

He became just the third quarterback in NFL history (Kurt Warner, 2001/Drew Brees, 2011) to lead his team to a perfect record in the final month of the season while passing for 1,300 yards and 10 touchdowns in addition to completing 70 percent of his passes.

In December, he led all AFC passers in completion percentage (70.7% - 7% higher than the next closest passer), yards per attempt (8.0), touchdowns (11), first-down percentage (42.0%) and passer rating 108.4 (18.1 points higher than the next closest player).

The honor represents the second of the year for Manning and the sixth such distinction of his career, tying him for the most conference Player of the Month accolades in NFL history since the award's inception in 1986.

Talking about regular season I just dont believe any QBs in NFL history is even closely successful as Manning. Having him is almost equal to a guaranteed playoff spot. This year's success at Denver kind of shut down the talks on him not being able to play outdoor and with teams other than Indy.

For him a few more successful playoff seasons and at least one more ring should solidify his position as the greatest of all time.

if he had a complete balanced team all the years in Indy he would of had more rings already & Superbowl is a team win as is all so really I discount that a bit but media wont

Yes,and I hope our team is ready as a whole. I'm not familiar with the Colts history, so I wonder: does this Broncos defense look better than any defense Peyton had in Indy? It certainly looks better than the SB winning Broncos defense.

This is my first year of seeing him up-close and I cannot help but marvel at what he's done with our team; he's on our record book in nearly every category in just one year. Simply amazing.

Urggh. I shouldn't generalize but us Californians are kind of soft when it comes to weather. Especially people from So Cal. We talk about weather all the time because good weather is really huge.

As my Denver-native spouse says, cold weather takes some getting used to.

This defense defintely loooks superior than all years' Colts defense maybe execept for 05 before they lost to the Steelers in the playoff. The only one that was close was the defense in 06's playoff with Sanders back. In NFL playoff it is a one-game elimination so anything could happen. But at least I like the chance of this yr's Broncos in the AFC side since there is no Steelers and the Ravens team has been much weaker, so eventually you only need to take care of the Pats. Texans cannot be taken too seriously. The interesting thing is the NFC which has been dominating in recent yrs.

its not the d thats an issue , its the fumbles / trurnovers, worse of any team in playoffs I read

THIS ON FUMBLE ISSUE

once they have the ball, they need to hold on to it.

The Broncos lost 14 fumbles this season. Only six teams lost more fumbles than that, and ...

• None of the six made the playoffs.

• Three fired the head coach.

So, this is no small item for a team that has so much going for it as the postseason tournament begins.

They fumbled a LOT earlier in the season and lost disproportionate number. It's now averaging out a little. They've done a lot better recently. Not to say that they shouldn't work on ball security, and I know it's still stressed by John Fox.

true but just 1 in a playoff can be deadly, esp pending where lost

I will remind u of this from 1 play last game what might have happened with just this one, was lucky wasnt a team that could caapitalize on it like playoff team and that those noted below werent hurt

Hillman in doghouse  early   fumble  Broncos driving a long distance at the  KC 24  negated a possible 14-0 lead, turned into 7-3 but could of been 7-7

also Franklin was out 4  rest of first half as hurt & needed eval as tried to tackle Retuner, and Peyton could have been hurt as he got in right throwing arm  into returner  forcing returner of fumble to change direction & to get caught &  tackled By Dressewn or would of Been a td return = 3 strikes 1 of the articles below says

Spot on, the regular seasons means nothing. People constantly judge Favre by his post season and Super Bowl history, no excuse to give anyone else a pass. Joe Montana got the job done, I don't think there will ever be another Joe Cool.

Mcgahee accounted for 4 fumbles as wwell as significant dropped passes on 3rd downs, remember Pats game, next to last drice drops a easy 3rd dwn catch & run, then next series again driving and inside the 10 fumbles it away, u cantt do that in playoffs , and only had 3 in any other saeson , i hope he has been sleeping with the ball so he & it become one during this entire time hes been out

Moreno since he came back has changed way he hold onto ball and usually makes sure its secured and cradled with 2 arms, he apparently learned his lesson since being benched with initial fumble, Mcgahee wasnt benched for that but for injury so hope he realizes need for security is great

Playoff football is all about playing tight games with 100% concentration. winning the turnover battle is a must. If McGahee could come back I'd still stick with Moreno since he has not lost a fumble recently and is the hotter hand. Look at 07 Colts loss to the Chargers, Harrison came back from injury but lost a crucial fumble in the red zone and changed the momentum for the entire game.

I'd still try not to use McGahee as far as the game is not determined. If having a 3TD lead in the 4th qtr I might consider giving him some time for killing the clock But still I could prefer to let him play all the way to the end rather than in and out. Fumbles generally come when a cold hand subsititutes in for the starter for just one or two plays.

as he cant play till afc champ game would love a 3 TD lead in 4th and give himn the ball, would take that right now pending if Colts  lose

fully understand your point of view, perhaps for blocking for Peyton

anyway what i wrote was based on things i pieced together in varios denver news aarticles & their authors opinions

In The Meantime he still hasnt practiced and surely dont want him thrown in without that

I agree with you guys. What lacks in Knowshon is complimented by Jacob Hester. He is a good short yardage option. Another good in-season signing, BTW, by Elway. (I heard only thing they made him work out for was pass protection.) So McGahee if he is able to return, is a depth in my mind. Denver now has depth in every position it seems.

I'd say Depth at most positions but really dont want Porter returning nut better than bolden & if Clady goes down or Knopeen & yes was a sub last game but for a full game Knopen at center knows the no huddle for years , getting Kuper back will add depth

Ryan Clady (Denver Post file)

Pro Bowl left tackle Ryan Clady did not participate Friday in the final practice of the Broncos' playoff bye week.

As has been the case for all three practices this week, Clady was seen observing Friday's practice but only did some individual work prior to unit and team drills.

The next league-prescribed injury report is not due until Tuesday for a Saturday game.

But indications are that his issue will not keep the fifth-year pro from playing in the Jan. 12 division-round playoff game   (((( so what in the world is it  ))))

The Broncos had four players this season with at least 500 yards receiving: Demaryius Thomas (1,434), Eric Decker (1,064), Jacob Tamme (555) and Brandon Stokley (544). It’s the sixth time that has happened in franchise history.

The Broncos didn’t make the playoffs in any of the other five seasons.

DP is full of sub-par sports reporters unfortunately, and I guess he is another one. I'm not familiar with his work (looks like he is a Rockies reporter).

For me, there is no debate, and I'll be surprised if Peyton doesn't win it even though I'm hearing a lot of people tell me otherwise. Who goes to a new team and have a 13-3 season after a career-threatening injury while rewriting almost every passing record of the club? And I think playing against him in practice is one the big reasons our defense is so much better this year. He was out of football for 19 months unlike AP. Peyton is grooming his young receivers. He's putting them in running drills. He's changed the Broncos.

All that said, I'd be happy if AP wins it. I want it for Peyton but I accept a different outcome. I am sure another ring would mean so much more to him.

Clady's injury worries me a little. This weird secrecy is strange.

we will know tuesday when must report what it is for sat games

many are simply tired of Peyton getting it, there is a case every year for him basically

the one part of that articl;e I did like was Peterson doiesnt call audibles , Yes Peytons intangibles arent measured and are subjective to the voters , breaking Bronco records are nothing to vote for but fact that , as i noted in another thread

ranking first in Bronco history in

completions (400), passing yards (4,659), completion percentage (68.6%), touchdowns (37) and passer rating (105.9).

& add in

Oh, and by the way, he only had 11 interceptions in 2012, making him the only quarterback in NFL history

to have those combined statistics in a single season.

http://blog.denverbr...anning-greater/

& led by  full 7 points   in QBR too & was only QB in the 80's

http://espn.go.com/nfl/qbr

NOW SAYING THAT was just to point out its more than breaking Bronco records

PS,  & Broncos set an attendance record too, I am not going to say thats value for the team as well & should be part of the consideration ( LOL )

have a good weekend, I'm gone

Al;so u asked before on thses so here are updates

offensive tackle Ryan Clady expected to be ready for playoff opener

Offensive tackle Ryan Clady is expected to practice next week and play in the Broncos' playoff opener Jan. 12 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

Clady didn't participate in practice this week because of an undisclosed injury, but he hasn't missed a game in his NFL career.

Asked about Clady's availability when the Broncos resume practice next week, coach John Fox said, "He was at practice every day this week, and I don't foresee that changing much next week."

The Broncos don't have to issue an official injury report until Tuesday

Broncos have plan in place for Willis McGahee's return

the team's timetable is still that he would be ready to play in a limited role in the AFC championship game and beyond if the Broncos advance that far.

Broncos coach John Fox was asked recently about McGahee's progress. Fox said the AFC championship game was still the target.

He said:

"He's rehabbing and all indications are it's on schedule. He's getting better every day. He won't be ready any time real soon, but we'll evaluate that as we get going and finish up the regular season. All indications are he's making good progress."

McGahee, who may return to practice next week, still finished as the Broncos' leading rusher with 731 yards despite missing the past six games. But that doesn't diminish the effectiveness of his replacements.

Why don't they come out and tell us about his injury though? I want to believe he'll be ready to play next week, but the secrecy is killing me. And the compulsion to know :)

But even with everything the Broncos accomplished in the regular season, the teams that remain in the AFC's playoff field have just the kind of players to leave a mark in the Broncos' postseason hopes.

Whether it's the Patriots or the Ravens, they funnel plenty of their work in the passing game into the hands of their tight ends and running backs.

And those are exactly the routes that have given the Broncos' defense some difficulties this season.

Opposing tight ends and running backs caught 153 passes for 1,407 yards and 14 touchdowns against the Broncos. That accounted for 47.7 percent of the receptions, 39.5 percent of the yardage and 56 percent of the passing touchdowns against the Denver defense.

Opposing offenses will want to get the ball out quickly against the Broncos' pass rush, and the easiest way to do that is work toward the tight ends and backs, with an occasional screen to a wide receiver.

On Sunday, Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco's first big play of Baltimore's win over the Colts was a short toss into the teeth of Indianapolis' rush that running back Ray Rice took 47 yards to put the Ravens into position for their first field goal of the day.

    • No, but I would love that! Is that true? Where did you hear that? I don't think that will happen. I heard that trading Herbert would result in a huge dead cap hit for the Chargers, that would make it nearly impossible to keep or sign other players.

    • Final edition, call it a less penalty driven team draft.   The Colts trade up on Day 1.   Round 1 a)       WR Rome Odunze (Washington) – led all receivers in CFB in pass interference call draws with 9 in 2023. b)      LCB Quinyon Mitchell (Toledo) – Only had 3 penalties in the last two seasons. c)       WLB Edgerrin Cooper (Texas A&M)   Round 2  a)      OL Cooper Beebe (Kansas State) – Jack of all trades OL No matter where Cooper Beebe lines up, he produces elite play. At right tackle in 2020, he was a PFF honorable mention All-Big 12 honoree. As a left tackle in 2021, he was named first-team All-Big 12. In 2022 at left guard, Beebe was a second-team All-American.  Beebe's 94.0 pass-blocking grade over the past two seasons led all offensive linemen in college football. During that span, he didn’t allow a sack on 770 pass-blocking snaps.  Beebe is the only FBS guard who ranks in the top five in both PB (4th) and RB (2nd).  He still hasn’t allowed a sack since the 2020 season. 2023 earned college football midseason all-America First Team.   Very few penalties throughout his career. b)      FS/NCB Javon Bullard (Georgia) – only had 5 penalties in college. c)       SS Jaden Hicks (Washington State) – 2023 PFF TOW 2 honors. Leader on defense that off to a strong start for 2023 earning a 90.1 PFF grade in coverage with one interception after 3 weeks, dropped another but forced 4 incompletions.  Great field and anticipation skills along with ball production.  Versatile can align up in FS, SS, LB, or nickel.  Only had 3 penalties in 2023.   Round 3 a)       CB Khyree Jackson (Oregon) – 2023 PFF TOW 4 honors.  Jackson had a decent Senior Bowl Week and is best in Zone Coverage. Jackson’s got excellent height we covet at 6’3” with great weight at 203 pounds, with ideal arms 32” and the span of 78” and good 4.44s-Forty.  Only committed 4 penalties in 2023. b)       DB Dadrion Taylor-Demerson (Texas Tech) - only 7 career penalties with 200 tackles, 57 stops, 11 pressues, 3 sacks, 16 passes defended, and 10 interceptions. c)       LCB Kris Abrams-Draine (Missouri) - 2023 PFF TOW 4 honors.  After 6 games leads all FBS players with 8 PBUs (1.8 PDPG) while adding 3 INTs.   10 combined interceptions and (7) forced incompletions are the most among Power Five CBs while only allowing 11 catches all season. 2023 college football midseason all-America First Team.  His 86.8 coverage grade is 5th highest in the FBS allowing just 107 passing yards and 11 receptions on the season. d)      SWR Malik Washington (Virginia) – Josh Downs 2.0 and only committed 4 total penalties in five years (52 career games).   Round 4 a)      RG Zak Zinter (Michigan) 2022 PFF Week 5, 11, 12 TOW Honors. 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Second Team. • Holy cow!     And then shows he should have been picked top 5
    • This goes against everything Ballard would do, however it would be something that Irsay would love to do as he is a romantic. Probability is very very low though.
