I have followed Peyton Manning closely since his freshman year at Tennessee. Against Cleveland was the first time in Peyton's career he has ever worn a glove. Is this a result of his nerve injury and inability to grip the ball in cold weather?

As a cynic, I was ready to say Manning's ability to pass through inclement weather was the last of the unanswered questions regarding his comeback -- and reason for concern come the elements of playoff football.

 

But the glove changes everything. He does wear it for grip purposes, an acknowledgement that the nerve regeneration from his neck surgeries isn't 100 percent recovered -- which adds an exclamation point to his remarkable comeback. I mean, the guy's still not completely healthy and he still threw for more than 4,600 yards while compiling a 13-3 record, 37 TDs and just 11 picks.

 

I think the glove also illustrates some surprising flexibility in Manning's personality. He's been so regimented in his routine over the years, I didn't think he had it in him.

 

In the first game of his 15-year career with the glove, game 15 against Cleveland, Manning threw two, pinpoint touchdown passes, one to Demaryius Thomas, the other to Eric Decker.

 

He threw the ball well last week in game 16 against Kansas City. In fact, it looks like the glove has taken some wobble out of Manning's throws. In his two games with the glove, he has completed 53 of 72 (73.6 percent) for 643 yards, 6 TDs, 1 pick and a 122.6 passer rating.

 

At 36, Manning has stumbled on to something.

 

If the Broncos make it to the Super Bowl and the Superdome in New Orleans, I say Manning sticks with the glove.

 

And you're right about the wrist band play list, Rodney. I've always thought a significant difference between Manning  & other Elite Qb's .

This is my first year of seeing him up-close and I cannot help but marvel at what he's done with our team; he's on our record book in nearly every category in just one year. Simply amazing.

Urggh. I shouldn't generalize but us Californians are kind of soft when it comes to weather. Especially people from So Cal. We talk about weather all the time because good weather is really huge.

This defense defintely loooks superior than all years' Colts defense maybe execept for 05 before they lost to the Steelers in the playoff. The only one that was close was the defense in 06's playoff with Sanders back. In NFL playoff it is a one-game elimination so anything could happen. But at least I like the chance of this yr's Broncos in the AFC side since there is no Steelers and the Ravens team has been much weaker, so eventually you only need to take care of the Pats. Texans cannot be taken too seriously. The interesting thing is the NFC which has been dominating in recent yrs.

I agree with you guys. What lacks in Knowshon is complimented by Jacob Hester. He is a good short yardage option. Another good in-season signing, BTW, by Elway. (I heard only thing they made him work out for was pass protection.) So McGahee if he is able to return, is a depth in my mind. Denver now has depth in every position it seems.

I agree with you guys. What lacks in Knowshon is complimented by Jacob Hester. He is a good short yardage option. Another good in-season signing, BTW, by Elway. (I heard only thing they made him work out for was pass protection.) So McGahee if he is able to return, is a depth in my mind. Denver now has depth in every position it seems.

 

I'd say Depth at most positions but really dont want Porter returning nut better than bolden & if Clady goes down or Knopeen & yes was a sub last game but for a full game Knopen at center knows the no huddle for years , getting Kuper back will add depth

Pro Bowl left tackle Ryan Clady did not participate Friday in the final practice of the Broncos' playoff bye week.

As has been the case for all three practices this week, Clady was seen observing Friday's practice but only did some individual work prior to unit and team drills.

 

The next league-prescribed injury report is not due until Tuesday for a Saturday game.

 

 But indications are that his issue will not keep the fifth-year pro from playing in the Jan. 12 division-round playoff game   (((( so what in the world is it  ))))

DP is full of sub-par sports reporters unfortunately, and I guess he is another one. I'm not familiar with his work (looks like he is a Rockies reporter).

For me, there is no debate, and I'll be surprised if Peyton doesn't win it even though I'm hearing a lot of people tell me otherwise. Who goes to a new team and have a 13-3 season after a career-threatening injury while rewriting almost every passing record of the club? And I think playing against him in practice is one the big reasons our defense is so much better this year. He was out of football for 19 months unlike AP. Peyton is grooming his young receivers. He's putting them in running drills. He's changed the Broncos.

All that said, I'd be happy if AP wins it. I want it for Peyton but I accept a different outcome. I am sure another ring would mean so much more to him.

the team's timetable is still that he would be ready to play in a limited role in the AFC championship game and beyond if the Broncos advance that far.

 

 

Broncos coach John Fox was asked recently about McGahee's progress. Fox said the AFC championship game was still the target.

 

He said:

 

"He's rehabbing and all indications are it's on schedule. He's getting better every day. He won't be ready any time real soon, but we'll evaluate that as we get going and finish up the regular season. All indications are he's making good progress."

But even with everything the Broncos accomplished in the regular season, the teams that remain in the AFC's playoff field have just the kind of players to leave a mark in the Broncos' postseason hopes.

 

Whether it's the Patriots or the Ravens, they funnel plenty of their work in the passing game into the hands of their tight ends and running backs.

 

And those are exactly the routes that have given the Broncos' defense some difficulties this season.

Opposing tight ends and running backs caught 153 passes for 1,407 yards and 14 touchdowns against the Broncos. That accounted for 47.7 percent of the receptions, 39.5 percent of the yardage and 56 percent of the passing touchdowns against the Denver defense.

 

Opposing offenses will want to get the ball out quickly against the Broncos' pass rush, and the easiest way to do that is work toward the tight ends and backs, with an occasional screen to a wide receiver.

 

 

On Sunday, Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco's first big play of Baltimore's win over the Colts was a short toss into the teeth of Indianapolis' rush that running back Ray Rice took 47 yards to put the Ravens into position for their first field goal of the day.
