MVP = Manning!

Seemed yesterday when the Vikings were 3rd down and needing a big play AP was always on the sidelines.   Doesnt seem like the most valuable player to me!

I of course josh just a bit because I know he is the best on their team, I just think Manning was the MVP this year!   Would have liked to see him in there on those important downs and have gotten 9+ more yards then I vote him MVP.

Agree other than Manning over AP for MVP.   Manning has been brilliant but the offensive production that AP demonstrated this year was historic.

Peterson has had a great year. Calvin Johnson's year was more historic than Peterson's.

Grand scheme of things, I can't discredit what Manning has done because another running back rushed for 2,000 yards.

Not to mention in '03 Jamal Lewis carried his offense into the playoffs, more so than Peterson, and still didn't get MVP.

I think it is footballousiders that mentioned the impact AP has had compares to that of Jim Brown.   That is not discrediting anyone else.  Just recognizing the merits of his performance this year.

ROY

1. RG3

Switched Brady and Rodgers, Luck and Wilson. Someone on ESPN (i know i know) said it best. This is Most Valuable Player. Not most inspirational return from four neck surgeries. The latter would be more inline with CPOY.

I believe this will be the end result, although I still think that for the OROY, Luck has a lot less to play with and has taken the team further than the others. But I may be a tad biased.

Might want to check that last stat you posted there

Yeah.....we talked about that last night. Peyton Manning faced 5 winning teams and lost 3 of those.

But I just went back and looked at what AD has done this season and then looked at Christian Ponder's performance. I swear, if people did that, no matter what kool-aid they are drinking, would have to give it up to what he has done this season.

MVP -- Peyton Manning / Adrian Peterson

OPOY -- Adrian Peterson

DPOY -- JJ Watt

CPOY -- Peyton Manning / Adrian Peterson

OROY -- Robert Griffin III (don't like it, but I think he barely gets it)

DROY -- Luke Kuechly (Hayward was my frontrunner, but Kuechly really excelled in the last 4 weeks)

Coach -- Bruce Arians / Chuck Pagano

Exec -- Ryan Grigson

I have no problem with AD winning it. He drug his team into the playoffs. Amazing season considering everyone knew he was gonna be running

Isn't the drive behind Peterson's campaign his knee surgery? I'm just curious. He hasn't accomplished anything no one else hasn't.

Jamal Lewis in '03?

Ravens QB's: 2517 yards, 16 TDs and 19 INTs. Jamal Lewis: 2066 yards rushing, 14 TDs and 250 yards receiving with 0 TDs. 2316 total yards. and 14 total TDs

Ponder: 2935 yards, 18 TDs, and 10 INTs. Adrian Peterson: 2097 yards rushing, 12 TDs and 217 yards receiving with 1 TD. 2314 Total yards and 13 total TDs.

I see the angle...lol.

I honestly believed that Jamaal Lewis should have gotten it that year, but I think (sadly) he was hurt by the Ravens having the #1 defense at the time, which sucks.

Running backs come under the most scrutiny when it comes to MVP. The Vikings were 3-13 last year, and finish 10-6 on the back of the AD. I think the last play of that game was fitting for how the Vikings season has gone.

Jamal Lewis didn't have the #1 defense at the time. Jamal Lewis took one of the worst offenses in the NFL, and made them top 10. However years prior has no play into a person's season.

I felt bad for AP after his last run. It was hard run, and he wanted it bad. However I think he needed the record for MVP.

Ravens didn't have the #1 defense that year? I know they were top 3. I thought that was one of there #1 years. Also, the Ravens had the 21st ranked offense in 2003 (I just checked)

And AD did the same thing. Prior to yesterdays game, the Vikings had the 32nd ranked passing game and #2 ranked rushing.

Also, prior year is important because that is what's used as a baseline for the teams success this season.

Yes you are correct, they were 21st in yards and 6th in scoring. Lewis has the worst passing offense the whole season, but the best rushing team. Unlike Peterson, who had the worst passing game through 15 games, but the season is 15 games long. The Vikings are second in rushing through 16. So again Lewis beats him in both categories through 16 games.

If prior years are important than Peyton Manning's team was 2-14.

Isn't the drive behind Peterson's campaign his knee surgery? I'm just curious. He hasn't accomplished anything no one else hasn't.

Manning's campaign is largely fueled by his neck surgeries which is why I think he will likely end up CPOY. If Peyton didn't have any surgeries and was still starting for Denver + had the season he currently had, Rodgers would get the MVP nod. Rodgers has done more with less and had a better season. Unfortunately  people are trying to twist CPOY into MVP.

Petersons campaign is largely fueled by almost breaking Dickerson's record. A 28 year old record. If Peterson ran for 1800 yards right now, no way he would be in contention for MVP. He would still lead the NFL but 1800 isn't anything special. In fact, he wasn't even a candidate until about week 9 or 10. Morris has something like 1613 yards and is 2nd in rushing. Peterson ran for 1600 yards in 10 games alone (Week 7-16).

He did it while facing 8 or 9 in the box, while average 6.0ypc, 900 yards after contact, and has less carries than Jamal Lewis/Chris Johnson and Eric Dickerson, while playing in a much more difficult division (W/L the strongest in the NFL), and being the entire center piece of that offense, and in what is now considered a passing league(although Ponder isn't very good).  His performance against the Green Bay packers was fantastic. That last run basically was his way of showing the NFL why he deserves MVP.

The comparisons to Chris Johnson and Jamal Lewis are not completely relevant. CJ did nothing to carry that team and believe it or not, VY was a major reason why they won games down the stretch. Hell he somehow made the pro bowl(Manning went to the SB). Jamal Lewis played in an awful division in 2003 and had 39 more attempts than Peterson. That's basically a game and a half. If you gave Peterson 39 more touches, he would have shattered the record.

The last statistic that sums up why he will get the MVP award. The Vikings were 6-5 and out of the playoff picture at that point. In the month of december he ran for 861 yards and the Vikings went 4-1 to get into the playoffs. In his only loss in that span, he ran for 212 yards. If iirc the vikings needed to win 4 straight to get in or the Bears/Seahawks needed to lose 'x'. They won 4 straight and did it while beating the Packers, Texans, and Bears.

And if Andrew Luck didn't have almost as many total turnovers as total touchdowns, then I would say he should be in the running.

You know what's crazy about Chris Johnson record season? (coming from someone who watched every game because he was on my fantasy team) His production didn't slack off as the year went on and he got a bad wrap because of not going to the playoffs. CJ2K did everything to carry that team but you had to have been following the team to know that.

Titans Total TDS - 35; Chris Johnson Total Touchdowns - 16 (14 rushing, 2 rec.)

Titans Total Yards -  5696; Chris Johnson Total Yards - 2509

People don't remember that the Titans made a push for the playoffs but the Chargers ended it.

Vince Young that game - 8/21, 89 yards, 0 tds and 2 ints. touchdown run

Chris Johnson that game - 21 carries, 142 yards,  1 td, 37 yards rec.

So to be honest, I know a lot of people want to discredit what Chris Johnson did that year (I won't say where...*whistles*...lol) and want to say that he didn't do anything for that team because he the Titans didn't get into the playoffs  but if you really look at it, he did everything. The key difference between the 2009 Titans and 2012 Viking is the QB showed up to play when it mattered. (and they won games early)

Yeah sorry I don't mean to discredit Johnson in any way. I thought he deserved more consideration for MVP especially breaking the scrimmage record but I think what Peterson is doing right now is pretty damn special.

I wasn't saying you but a lot of people totally discredited what he did that year as far as it relating to team success. They gave all the credit to Young when it was really Johnson.

For the record I'm not saying necessarily Manning won't win it but moreso making a case why Peterson should get it instead of Manning. Don't get me wrong Manning has had one heck of a season.

Oh I know. My vote is for Manning, but if AP gets it I have no problem. They both deserve the award. It just comes down to the voters.

"that play" like it was singular?  He was on the sidelines for 3rd down more than enough times for it to make me go hmmmmmmmm.

You're right. Peterson is definitely not going to win MVP because he was not in on enough 3rd downs according to a poster on the Colts forum. Forget all the other 15 games, him not being in on 3rd downs in the final game despite rushing for 199 yards and putting the team in FG range to boost his team into the playoffs definitely hurts his MVP chances.

Thank god MVP voters meticulously watch players on 3rd downs in their final game of the season and use that to outweigh their entire performance for the game.
