Why are we so much better at home?

We dont really have that young a team defensively...
7-1 at home and 4-4 on the road..?
...wins over GB and Houston at home.....a road loss to the Jets?
Experince. The dome?
..any thoughts...

I would say it's the 12th man. The crowd gets going and it almost impossible to hear.

^^^This. And Peyton Manning has trained the crowd at LOS to be dead silent during offensive drives which make it easier on the offense, which in turn makes it harder for opposing defenses.

i only saw manning play once in his years here at indy. it was a slow low scoring game versus the titans. in the 4th quarter our offense finally started making some plays and the crowd started to roar. manning rushed up to the line and starting the arm flailing to silence the crowd.
you see and hear about it on tv, but until you witness first hand 60,000 people going completely silent at once, you just don't understand it. simply amazing

The majority of the teams play better at home. Crowd has a lot to do with charging the players batteries, the we have to defend our house mentality goes into effect, and the players get to eat and sleep at home (more normal routine)....just a cpl of my thoughts.

But Blue Man...true..werent we 0-8 on the road last year...
....but not THIS MUCH better..
NE and Denver are good at home but they're good on the road, too..
How about the Giants and Dallas? Teams like Pittsburgh and Cincinatti are about the same, arent they?
Seattle has a big home field edge..but that team is built nothing like the Colts

this year i think its more of such a young team and its easier at come. more comfort in your own house, place. next year I think we'll be better on the rd. i think our d, run game and luck will be much improved next year.
Colts fan for 20+ years. Was Colts4Lyfe on forums years and 5 or so different sites ago. Been lurking around ever since. Desided to rejoin to bond with my fellow fans in our time of need. Really excited at what lies ahead!!

You're right that we aren't really that young on defense, but you do have a new scheme with a lot of players that are square pegs trying to fit in round holes. They are also a defense that is put into tough situations (especially on the road) when the very young offense makes mistakes (more turnovers, more inability to sustain drives giving the D rest). They always say the hardest thing to do in the NFL is learning to win on the road consistently.

It wouldn't let me multi quote. The good teams find a way to win on the road. We are a team that is learning what it takes to win on the road. A young team more than others will have higher highs and lower lows. And 3 of the 4 road losses were about as low as you could go. It doesn't explain much but it is what it is.

I think crowd noise is a huge part of it. And to think that had it not been for that lucky throw by the Jags in week 3 we would have been 8-0 at LOS, is unreal.

I noticed Brazill had his foot on the LOS before the snap, but before the snap he stepped back, probably because a coach let him know about it. Little aspects of the game are affected, which leads to less mistakes.
