Andrew has Mrs. Pagano yelling at him

throwing BBZ

Well they are right that's my biggest complaint about Luck he does hold the ball too long at times but that comes with being a rookie.  That's why I don't think EVERYTHING is on Arians when the offense doesn't work.  I think Luck doesn't like to give up on a play and sometimes that leads to even bigger mistakes.  I was rewatching the Colts/Packers highlights from NFL Turning point last night and they showed a play where Luck threw back across his body to Reggie in the endzone and was nearly picked off and he had a wide open Donald Brown underneath.  When he got to the sidelines they cut to Arians grabbing Luck and saying "never throw that pass again you had Donald wide open underneath if you dump it off to him he's down at the two and we are going to in to score rather than kicking this field goal."  I do think there is some truth to the idea Luck doesn't like to throw short and doesn't like to just throw the ball away.  With that said he's a rookie he'll learn :).

I totally agree with Gocolts8818. The reason why #12 is holding on the ball too long is because he is trying to make plays even if everyone is covered or the pressure comes, sometimes he forces it and it ends up with an INT, fumble or a sack. Even if he gets sacked he is trying to throw it to a blue shirt ;-)

I keep going back to a story Archie told about Peyton his rookie year.  He said he called Peyton after five games or so and said how's it going son?  And Peyton said "Dad no one is open!"  It takes time to figure out what is open in the NFL.  I think that's part of why Luck holds the ball too long and doesn't make the best decisions at times.  By the same token that's why I am not all that worried about it.  It's a rookie thing that I am fairly confident that Luck will grow out of.

exactly right.......

....rookie QBs try to make big plays when the defense is giving you a 5-yard twinkie pass.

........sometimes you gotta take the Twinkie!!!

Yeah I think GoColts8818 is onto it...

Some have been harping on Arians regarding short routes but it appears that it is actually Andrew's growing pains.

It makes sense. He is used to "wide open" meaning something completely different. No doubt the seperation his receivers and TEs were getting at Stanford was considerably different than the seperation he sees in the NFL. And Reggie is probably the only guy that gets as clean as what he is used to. Add Reggie's dependable hands and you can see how Luck might get locked in.

He's learning. The team is growing. Here's to hoping Arians goes nowhere.

Good thread and I agree also with you guys.  Luck is not dumb, but that doesn't mean he can't be stubborn.  If Pagano is indeed the one who finally got Andrew to change this habit, then I am not surprised.  Pagano is a great communicator and leader.  I think we'll see going forward that he means even more to this team than Bruce Arians.  I would like to have them both though.
