The Unrated version Bad Santa is always worth a view and a few laughs. Like others have said Elf,Christmas Vacation.  I didn't care for A Christmas Story when I was a kid and haven't given it a viewing as an adult. Was basically the same age as the kid int he movie and he got on my nerves and reminded me of a guy at school, so maybe I'll watch it at some point.

You can find the kid annoying and still enjoy the movie. In fact you are probably supposed to find him annoying - but mostly average in every conceivable way. It's not about the kid, it's about Jean Shepard's stories and voice over. The period of time that it captures is just a little bit before my time, but I can relate to a lot of it. My brother is older than me and has fond memories of Shepard being just a brilliant storyteller both on the radio and in writing. This movie is something special, and is aimed at adults looking back at their youth with fondness and embarrassed amusement. A kid watching probably wouldn't get it at all.

I saw it when it came out in like 83/84 so that put me at 11/12 so that can explain why I didn't grasp it. Maybe I'll download it and give it anotther chance. 

 

Then again I never really cared for Ricky Schroder in anything as a kid( i know he's not in that movie), and then never really liked him later on either even in NYPD Blue.  Yet I've had the hots for Alyssa Milano 28 years or so... Somethings stick with you and you out grow others..

Yes,  was up late also, then up at 4 with 2 year old grandaughter.  She and I went to sleep (?) in chair in sunroom till 7, then the rest all started waking up  Taking a breather before starting all the cooking for dinner this afternoon.

True, but shouldn't impact this. Ricky Schoder is simply terrible no matter what age you are. His only talent is looking cute and crying on cue. Sickened me then, sickens me now. And Alyssa Milano was hot on "Who's the Boss", and the only thing that's changed is that she's learned to act. In turn, Jean Shepard was a renowned story teller 20 years before you were born, and still is today. I would be surprised if you didn't enjoy the movie. There is a reason that they run it in a loop on some stations.

Christmas Story was made in the 80's?! Really? It doesn't feel like a 80's movie at all. I thought it was hilarious back then, it's just over done now.

There is only one Christmas flick I watch at least once EVER SINGLE YEAR...

 

It's a Wonderful Life is my favorite Xmas movie and my favorite movie of all time.    It is simply the best.

 

2  A Christmas Carol    1938 version is my favorite.

A Christmas Carol(1938) starring Reginald Owen

Christmas in Connecticut starring Barbara Stanwyck

It Happened on 5th Avenue starring Don DeFore

and

The Shop Around the Corner starring James Stewart

 

all are great holiday classics

I am also very fond of a little known take off on A Christmas Carol entitled Karroll's Christmas

 

Sometimes they run it on A & E during the holidays.  It is funny and charming

Wow!  No mention of "Charlie Brown Christmas", The original "How the Grinch Stole Christmas", "Frosty",   I personally am very fond of A muppet Christmas carol, and am proud enough to admit it, but my all time fave is "A Christmas Story."  I have my son believing that I was the boy in the movie.  When he comes down the stairs in the pink bunny outfit he always asks me "Why did Grandma Brenda make you wear that?"

This scene between Darth Vader & Luke Skywalker from "Empire Strikes Back" is the most crucial scene in the entire Star Wars Trilogy...

 

 

This Han Solo scene from the same movie is a nice lynch pin climatic, emotional scene as well...
