border line C+ /B-

he has been beat on a few plays, some plays he looks out of shape, and the injuries do not help the cause. yeah he made some good plays but def. was not worth a 2nd round pick. especially when guys like talib and assante samuel went awhole lot cheaper. i think we could have had him with a 3rd or 4th round pick mixed in with a 6th or 7th round pick.

but i am happy the colts did try to improve the secondary with this trade, that i give an A+ too.

Talib brings to his new team his off-field issues, Samuel - his big contract and age.

B-

Really if you take a look at some of the guys drafted in 2nd round this year half of them if not most of them are either not starting or not have very good production in their rookie years. The Davis trade has given us a starter, but is worth the potential for what we could have gotten in the 2nd round? Only time will tell, but when I see Powers is on IR and Vaughn is next up to be our No.1, I become thankful that Grigson made this move. We needed a starting CB and we got him.

I'd give Davis a C.

He's had some very bad games this year. Last week, he allowed 8 catches (on 10 targets) for 118 yards, and a touchdown. That's terrible for a #1 corner.

He allowed a huge game from Calvin (although, I'll give him some slack there).

However, he is an upgrade over any cornerback the Colts have had in the last 5 years, and I love the trade that Grigson did, and I think time will help him grow into a better player, and get him more comfortable with this system.

Davis rarely linep up across from Calvin. For the majority of the snaps, Vaughn was covering Calvin and allowed lots of yards. Didn't get much help either.

Davis saw a little less than 50% of the snaps against Calvin, and during that time allowed big plays including a touchdown.

There's much more than that game too.,...

Andre Johnson makes 95% of CB's look silly, so I won't even knock him for that.

I give him a B so far. He's forced QB's to throw to the other side of the field a lot. That's where most completions have come against us.

I'll give him a C+ he has been good at times, but against big names he is less of a factor. I think if we were able to get more pressure on qbs, he would be far better. That said, as a true 3-4 defense fills in around him, I think he will get a LOT better. We need to get way more pressure. It could definitely turn into turnover city. Cassius and Darius both look aggressive when they know they have help which I think is important, and since they are young, I think they could actually become viable starters.

B- (must stop dropping easy passes, must start making hard catches) not that he hasnt made some tough catches but he needs to step his game up, HOWEVER, he is a rook, so was Garcon. Garcon is much better 2nd 3rd years. i think he's got a high ceiling .... if he gets an A or A+, then he's already great. not the case.

Who are you talking about? I think you're in the wrong thread....

This is a solid B or A trade.

This is a decent trade made great seeing as how our draft picks are coming at the very end of the round.

Highly doubt you find a great corner that is just as good as Vontae Davis without really gambling or taking a shot on someone.

I was skeptical of this trade when it happened, but it was due to off-field concerns. He's got the talent to be a top corner. If he continues on this path and doesn't let his head get in the way, then I'd say this was a good trade worthy of at least a solid 'B'.

  • I give it an A-,  The guy  has played well ( today case in point) and seems to have a bright future. The key is he is very young and still on his rookie conntract. So it is not like we gave a pick for a high priced veteran.

Another way to look at is, can you imagine if we we didn't have him going into next year. Everyone would be clamouring to draft a CB in the first round.

I have no idea why these bullet points are coming up!

I said incomplete earlier in the thread.  I now move his grade to a solid B.  His run defense is going to be the best since Sanders in time (did I say that? :)) and I love the way he uses his body in coverage.(yes I know Sanders was a safety)

I am old school Colt Fans........I still cringe on giving up a 2.  We would not however get anyone as ready to help us next year in this year's draft.....so we have a very solid start at corner!!  I pronounce the trade a winner.   :headspin:  :dancing: !!!!  If Butler continues to improve, we bring in a FA and/or some draft help we will be set for awhile.  Go Davis....go  :coltshelmet:  :coltshelmet:  :coltshelmet:  :coltshelmet:  :coltshelmet:!!!!!!!!!

Vontae Davis: A

Throw in David Amerson, Carrington Byndom, Keenan Lewis, or Milli from Bama & I'll be happy. Davis is our best CB by a longshot all we need is a partner in crime for him & a dominant pass rush. The future is looking bright for this Defense. Teams won't be so confident facing our Defense like they've been in past years

I'd give it a B+, but I think this one is going to work out into an A in time.

I'm really hopeful that the Chapman pick works out for us next year (he sounds like he could be a good one when he is healthy). I think we need another solid DE for the rotation across from Redding. Moala could be the guy, but I think we might be able to do better.

Beef up the offensive and defensive lines (maybe add another young corner), and we should be immensely better.

I like Jordan Poyer from Oregon State as well. As far as corners go, even Logan Ryans from Rutgers
