Ben Ijalana

Dark Superman

Recommended Posts

Still any chance this guy can still play next season? Didnt he tear his acl twice?q

Yeah, two ACLs. Not sure if it was the same one. We injury waived him, then put him on IR. Thay usually means we're obligated to pay him on IR but we don't really want him. And no one else wanted to take a chance on him either.

You never know, he may get healthy and be invited to camp, but I don't think it's too likely.

If we invite Ben back, we HAVE to at least give Collie a shot then. But hey, that's just my Opinion

AGREED. Especially that all the media kept saying Luck and Collie and great chemistry!

I like Collie as much as anyone here does, but it's a different situation. Collie is a free agent. Ijalana is still under contract.

With Austin's injury history, there's not going to be a bidding war over him.  He'll be offered vet min by any club inviting him to camp.

I hope the Colts invite him too.

Ummm....  speaking of different situation....

Ijalana has a bad knee or two...

Collie has a long history of concussions.

Big, big difference.    Those two are not comparable even if they had the exact same contracts.

Well, he went on IR because of a knee injury, not a concussion.  But your point is still valid.

I still like Collie, even with the concussions, and if he's going to try to play, I'd love for it to be as a Colt.

Very true. But it will be his choice to sign wherever he wants (and I'll be surprised if Elway isn't calling his agent during free agency).

And I was just pointing out that we don't have to invite Ijalana to camp. He's automatically invited, so long as we don't release him before camp starts. He's under contract for 2013. Collie isn't.

There were rumors we were probably going to cut Ijalana before he was injured.

Yeah, rumor was he was looking real bad in camp.  But that was probably because he was injured.

Usually when they injure-waive a guy and then put him on IR, they cut him before camp.  I can think of several players, like Roy Hall, that they did that to.

Who knows, maybe he'll heal and come back.

I think you've misread me...

Ijalana went on IR because of knees.

Collie because of concussions.

Some posters where were saying if we can bring back Ijalana, then we can bring back Collie.   Simple as that.

I was pointing out that their injuries are very, very different.    It's one thing to bring a guy back from a knee issue.   It's another to bring someone back from the latest in a series of concussions.

Hope this clarifies....

Nope. Collie was put on IR due to a knee injury, nothing to do with concussions. Obviously, he does have a long history of head injuries, but he ruptured his patellar tendon to get put on IR.

Well....

According to the team injury report, his last medical issue had to do with his head....

http://www.colts.com/team/injury-report.html

If I recall...  he had lingering concussions symptoms from the hit he took in the Pittsburgh pre-season game...  played very sparingly in the first 3 games, then was hurt again in week 3 or 4...

It may have been a knee that ultimately took him out of the season,  but he did have head issues this year.   And they're not his first.   They're just the latest.

You don't remember the knee against Jacksonville?

He did suffer the concussion against the Steelers in the preseason this year. Missed the rest of the preseason, came back in the Jags game, caught a pass and ruptured his patellar in his right knee. It's getting hard to keep up with his injury history lately. I really -- REALLY -- like Austin Collie as a receiver. But someone must be poking a voodoo doll somewhere.

guess the new helmet Collie was supposedly wearing made in Indy/ Greenfield didn't work out for him?...

Nope.  We should let him try this one, painted white and a Speed Blue Horseshoe on each side.

Give him Schwartz ring to fight off the voodoo pins too.  Prevent those concussions and knee injuries.  ;)

Just FYI. He used that helmet last year but he changed back to a different model this year. Sorry, a little bit of a dumb move.

Here is the story, from Washington Post, quote

"According to the Indianapolis Star, Collie used a helmet designed by racing safety innovator Bill Simpson last season then went back to his Schutt model this preseason. But after his latest concussion on Aug. 19 at Pittsburgh, he’s making the switch to a Xenith model used by former teammate Dallas Clark and safety Tom Zbikowski."

Any player at anytime can get an injury like Collie did with the knee. It still hurts me knowing that a guy like him with so much potential and ability cannot stay healthy. I really hope he can come back this season and contribute in a great way. If he sustains another injury be it knee, or concussion, then I say he needs to hang them up.

If he can come back and stay healthy all season like he did last year, then the guy needs to keep playing. This offense could be so lethal with Collie and Hilton stretching the field. I remember when Gonzalez was finally healthy the year we drafted Collie. I was SO excited to see what Peyton could do with them both on the field at the same time. Hopefully that's what we'll see next season.

I say we just get Collie a bubble and have Luck throw the ball threw the bubble and then Collie can just roll down field.  No one will be able to tackle him!  Put up some padding on the sidelines to keep him from going out of bounds and we are in business!

We'll call it "Footbowling"!
