I am well aware that the Colts are in rebuilding/reloading (whatever you want to call it), but I cannot help thinking what a guy like Fitz could do for this franchise, specifically Luck. He's 29, but he'll probably play into his late 30's (barring any major injury and his skillset/work ethic taken into account), so it's not just a short term move. In other words, we'd have a bona fide nr. 1 receiver. Imagine Fitz, Reggie, TY and our two tightends. My goodness. 

 

We certainly have the cap space, thus his contract obviously wouldn't be a problem. But what would you be willing to give up? A 1st or 2nd, 1st and 3rd? And do you think the Cards would accept? They are not going anywhere, and if they want to  get max value for him on the open market this is probably the time.

I'm probably in the minority here but with Luck I wouldn't want him. If we had Manning I would have loved to see these 2 tear it up but I would much rather just keep what we have going right now with Luck and Co.

Not a fan of this idea at all. We need our draft picks to further acquire and develop talent. Honestly, I would rather use our resources to solidify our offensive and deffensive lines. Now just for a creative perspective, I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on a player like Dwayne Bowe. Supremely talented and available likely for pennies on the dollar. Getting put on IR wont help his case for a big dollar deal; however, a minor rib injury doesn't scare me off too much either. If he can be had at a bargain, why not take a flyer on that kind of talent to solidify our WR core. He is the huge redzone threat we need.

Two issues. Salary Cap & Compensation.

There are two sides to the salary cap. The Colts side and the Cardinals side.

The contract would be far more complicated for the Cards to accommodate a trade than it would for the Colts to accept his contract. At the bare minimum the Cards would be forced to eat 6 million of cap space, cap space they didn't have this year and they likely might not have next year. Depending on what was guaranteed and how it is stipulated in his contract, that 6 million number could easily be higher than 6 million.


Compensation is a whole other story. I don't know if the Colts would be willing to give up what Arizona would demand. I doubt they would do anything less than 2 #1 picks and other picks thrown in. Teams don't give talent like his away.

I too was thinking Duane Bowe unti I gave it a bit more thought. I guess it might depend on how much room KC has. However, considering they are about 100% certain to bring a new QB in , would it be likely that they woud let their only good receiver leave ? Add to that Bowe has recently came out and said he would like to retire a Chief  and maybe we have a very unlikely signing.

I wish some would look at how many players are moved in the 2nd or 3rd year after signing a huge 6-7 year deal. For the reasons you have above , these deals are pretty much "unworkable." Now if a player is at the end of a large contract , that's a differfent story.

AZ is thinking about getting rid of him becuz of what he has done for the francise. He has done so much here in AZ that they want to give him a chance to go win a championship. So a trade would be likely but i just dont think the colts can give up that much to get him. Would be nice to have him but i also like what we have for offensive weapons now. It is good to have young players around a young qb so they can grow together. Reggie Wayne is the perfect wr to grow with a young qb becuz he doesnt demand the ball. Just look at Sanchez in New York, he had to get in the huddle with Plaxico and Holmes who would be angry that they didnt get the ball on the last play. So i dont think it will happen or that it needs to happen.

100% agreed! I just can not fathom why fans keep wanting this WR or that WR. If we didn't have any talent at WR that would be understandable, but we have talent at WR and is probably one of our strongest positions. People need to understand that the real NFL is not fantasy football. We need O-line, O-line and more O-line. Then a SS,CB, and maybe a OLBer. Forget about the skill positions, those are the last area's we need to think about.

You present some very valid points. I would not write this off as a possibility though, given that players tend to speak more fondly of their current teams in season. Let's see what he says when the season is over.

I totally agree with you on this point we need to keep Mr. luck upright. If we can't do that then why did we take him number one. I think instead of trying to sign a big-time free agent at wide receiver why not look at Ryan clade Jake Long or Andrea Levittre. Anyone of these three guys would help out the Colts offense of line immensely. Signing long or C lady would give the Colts options of two guys to start at left tackle with the other guy playing right tackle. Also you have to remember that the Colts should be getting Ben back from two ACL injuries and might be able to play inside at guard. Also hopefully Sampson can be healthy for more than one or two games in a row. This would vastly improve the running game opening up passing lanes off play action. I honestly think that in a year LaVonne Brazil may be talked about as one of the steals in the 2012 draft
