Smart pick by the Redskins.  The one knock on RG3 is that he could struggle with injuries.  Drafting Cousins has given them a very solid insurance policy as a back up.  I want to be clear I am not hoping in anyway that RG3 does end up hurt a lot but if I was running that team I would plan for it like the Redskins did based on his style of play.  I also think you have to let RG3 play the way he does or you aren't getting the second pick in the draft.  It's the way he plays that makes him such a special player.

Yeah, I doubt missing a game will ultimately have much of an effect on all that.  To bring this back to the topic at hand... Cousins is playing like a ROTY candidate this week himself.

 

This game would be over if only our defensive backs didn't suck.

No more of this RG3 is magic nonsense. Cousins is tearing up Cleveland because Washington actually has a good team around him.

 

Griffin is still magic by virtue of the fact that he can do many things that Cousins simply can't and does several things that no one else in the league can do.

 

You'll hear no argument from me that the scheme is very good and Alfred Morris is very dangerous, though.  In fact, the Browns came into this game SO keen on stopping the run that they've really been unable to defend the pass or account for the mobility of Cousins off the bootleg.  Superior scheming by our coaching staff is the big difference in this game.

Kyle gets the game ball in this game.  His play calling was great.  I have a feeling that the Browns spent most of their time gameplanning for RG3 and that offense.  This offense today looked nothing like the one RG3 runs.  Lots of runs, yes, but no pistol, no read option.  This was Kyle's offense from last year, essentially.

Truth is this offense looked a HELL of a lot like the one Griffin runs with the playcalling shifted to favor Cousins' abilities.  We even ran the pistol once with a read option element attached to it, Cousins just (wisely) let Morris have it.

 

Our offense is and has been the same as last years all along with a few extra elements of complexity added in for Griffin's unique skillset.

Yea, I remember seeing that one read option play lol.  Yea, I meant to say formation wise, the offense looked nothing like what we've been running.  There was a lot more traditional sets today as apposed to pistol, diamond etc.

I just think it's inaccurate to say that the offense looked completely different.  This was just a shift in the playcalling.  We've run all the things Cousins ran today with Griffin and they have been mighty successful throughout (e.g., in the Dallas game all of our big passing plays came out of singleback looks).

It was a different offense for Cousins today. They ran a many of the plays that Griffin runs but out of a base formation instead of the pistol. The running game did what it needed to, though, and that was get the Browns to bite on play action.

If a healthy Griffin plays this game is not even close.

Considering it was his first start ever, he played an oustanding game. 300+ yards, didn't force many throws, and showed good mobility. 

 

Very smart of the Skins to draft 2 QBs. God knows what RG would have done. By RG, I mean Rex Grossman.

RGIII is going to have to learn to throw the ball and not run around like a chicken with it's head cut off. 2 injuries and only his rookie season. You don't have to be a ball hog and have to run around. Learn from watching Steve Young, even though he didn't slide, a bunch of his injuries could have been prevented if he wasn't running around like that. I remember Young taking some massive hits when he would run like that, I literally thought he was insane for years.

 

 

You know what gets me? The Browns had a potential QB in McCoy. Sure he's not the greatest but he looked better last year than how Weeden is playing this year. Their defense looks a lot more improved, they are getting better but taking steps backwards on offense, even though Trent Richardson has been a great draft choice, he can only do so much. I guess they will draft another QB again, since Weeden is so terrible.

I am not saying McCoy is the greatest thing ever but I think his stats last year will look better than Weeden has after this year has finished. The interceptions are a big thing. Weeden has already thrown 7 more INTs than McCoy did all last year.

Yawn... yeah clearly Luck won it solely after todays performance.   Makes you wonder what the stats would have looked like had Cousins started for Indy today.

Yeah Redskins are playing good ball right now overall. Seems like their D is doing well albeit was against Clevland. Definitely hitting on all cylinders.

Right now watching this Dallas game hoping Pitts loses however Dallas is great at failing 14x unanswered points by Pitts.

When a team can win with their backup that's a good sign lol.

Probably pretty terrible considering Luck was sacked 5 times, hurried and pressured virtually ever play like always. Yeah, I'd love to see how Cousins would do under the worst OL in the league.

Richardson was a great draft choice?  I'm sorry but for a #3 overall pick that kid has been incredibly disappointing.  If you're going to take a back that high they better be the next coming of AP or LT and Richardson has looked nothing of the sort.

Not every running back is going to be Adrian Peterson or LT. 869 yards and 9 TD's, is pretty decent considering how they don't have much of an offensive line, and their play calling is terrible with all the passing when their run game is working.

It goes without saying that not every back will be that caliber of player but the point remains that if they aren't they are a massive reach at #3 overall.  I'm sorry but most backs aren't anywhere near that valuable.  The best backs of most draft classes are mid-late first rounders at best and even then don't always prove to be of particularly good value.

 

897 yards at 3.5 ypc with only four games where he's been over 3.6 ypc and only one of those four against a respectable rushing defense.  Prior to this game there were 7 backs with more yardage on less carries than TR.  The Browns may have iffy guard play but they've got very good talent at tackle and center.

 

If I were the Browns, I'd be starting Hardesty.  If I were the Browns in a re-draft, I'd trade back and pick up Martin, Morris, Ballard, or perhaps even Brown or Wilson later in the draft.  The man could prove me wrong by developing his game some and coming out hot next season but that's not something RBs tend to do once they reach the pros, at least not in the limited window they typically have to prove themselves.

The problem is you can get a quality NFL running back in the 2nd round or later nowadays.  I dont think I would ever draft a runningback in the first round in todays NFL.  20 years ago, heck yea, but not now.

      No.   You weren’t.   If you were the least bit sincere, we’d be having these conversations in private.  But you’ve repeatedly ignored my efforts to do that.  Your call.      Then you avoid me until I’m in an uncomfortable conversation with another poster.   You use that awkward moment as an excuse for you to come in with some sincere friendly advice.   The problem is, you’re neither sincere, nor friendly.  And you’ve been doing this for months now.  This is not new.   The pattern is clear and obvious.     And the shame of it all is that even with our different views on Ballard we have enough in common that we should be friendly.  Maybe not friends, but friendly.  You wouldn’t need to address me as “Sir.”    “Good deed going unpunished”.  You flatter yourself.     But your actions speak much louder than your words.   There’s no reason for me to trust you.  And here we are.  A real shame.

      In a year when the Colts were in serious need of a QB and in position to draft one, Ballard came up in front of the media 3 days before the draft and straight up said something to the effect of "That guy everybody in media is talking about(Levis), we are not taking him". I don't know why you think the Colts are trying to throw us off the scent this year specifically. They are not trying to give us away the pick(thus the vagueness), but I also don't really think they are trying to mislead anybody. This usually becomes specifically apparent in retrospect after the draft when you look back at a lot of those quotes in the videos they release pre-draft... and they were talking precisely about players we ended up drafting, which they reveal in the post-draft video by extending some of those quotes(they did that with AR last year for example).    And about why people are doing it(guessing who they are talking about) - because it is fun. Nobody has the illusion that we will be right in our guesses 100% of the time... or anywhere close really... but it's still fun. And it's part of why the Colts release those videos with those quotes - to create engagement with the fanbase... part of which, and the entirety of which that 70 pages thread and whole board is about in the offseason. is to guess who the Colts might take and how they might feel about specific prospects.

      Not the least bit surprised to hear from you at this moment.   You see me in an uncomfortable conversation (with a moderator no less) and you seize the moment to take a shot at me.  And you try to act like you’re giving me a sincere explanation of what you’re doing.   Like you have an ounce of credibility with me.      This is not the first time you’ve done this.  While I may not be surprised, I’m certainly disappointed.
