Cassius Vaughn - D Player of the Week

I'm not buying into him being a quality starter, not yet. But I have to admit, the kid is aggressive. I always said I'd rather have the DBs play tight, even if they get beat now and then, than play 15 yards off the WR on 3rd and 7.

Vontae Davis is what happens when an unstoppable force meets and immovable object, then they have a kid.

Thats what the good Corners do (No I dont think that 1 pick makes him a good Corner but still a nice play and it went back for a crucial score)The INT was caught in zone coverage, Vaughn just reacting quickly to what he saw.

Absolutely, I'm just pointing out he was in zone, not man. That play looked almost exactly like Butler's 1st INT as a Colt except Vaughn started out nearly in a 10 yard cushion. Great play.Thats what the good Corners do (No I dont think that 1 pick makes him a good Corner but still a nice play and it went back for a crucial score)

Yea, but Sir Buzz, he didn't do what a lot of corners do, drop a sure thing ...... some corners hands are concrete. He did what good corners do, he held on to the INT.Excuse me for being Sir Buzz Killington but Locker played that pick 6 so terribly I would have been able to pick that off and fall in the end zone. Regardless, congratulations to Vaughn and way to make the play when it's there.
Locker did bone that one however.

Go Butler!!!

butler has weaknesses in certain areas and strengths in others, just like Vaughn and Davis. I think they are all going to need to compliement one another and get playing time by rotation. Shaub is going to pick on ALL of them and hopefully we can "PICK" on him.Vaughn gets destroyed15 times a game on that play alone. Then he gets tore up on the other plays. That is the only side QBs pass on. He is not impressive in my openion. I keep saying how much I like Butler (like he is my brother or something) but he has great reaction and vision for--- the short time I have seen play.
Go Butler!!!
With names like Darius, Cassius, and Vontae..... how can we go wrong.

Not sure if this has already been posted. I think it's pretty amazing that a guy who most of us thought would be a nickle at best is being recognized by the league.

Then this has got to be the slowest week for defensive players in the history of the NFL. He was picked on for 9/10ths of the game and was thrown a gift ( I swear, I saw an Angel deliver the ball to him in slow-mo ), stumbles into the endzone for drama..... D- Player of the Week? To quote my favorite movie.."Well, if that don't beat off"

Butler, Gordy, Williams, ANYONE should be starting at LCB than Vaughn.
You might want to consider that our coaching staff, who most here believe have contributed just a bit to a no-name bunch of players going 9-4 so far think Vaughn is better than you do.
So, maybe, just maybe, you might want to consider the possibility that you're wrong....
Or not. Up to you.

Seems we no longer beat up the OL the way we did the first half of the season.
Now, the new target of opportunity are the corners.
Powers? Sucks! Don't re-sign him!
Davis? (Up until a week or so ago) Sucks! Why did we trade for him?! Wish we had that 2nd round pick back!
Butler? Who's he? Sucks!
Vaughn? Sucks! Anyone could do what he did! My dead grandmother could do better than that guy!
Again and again and again.... maybe the coaching staff knows more than some here believe.
You'd think at some point some of the folks here might consider they're wrong?! (Whoops, what am I thinking?! Fat chance of that happening.... <<sigh....>> )

9 pass deflections and 1 pick later and the 20th ranked pass defense later. I highly doubt our GM is paying Vaughn to make tackles to extend drives. According to Football Database he has as many penalties as pass deflections (9). I will say I dont know how accurate this is. But if true it just is a small sample of how awful Vaughn has been overall this year, I mean we are talking up there just behind Seth Olsen. http://www.footballd...ies-player.html

He also tackles the reciever well

regardless there is nothing wrong with stating your dislike of how a player has played this season after all we do hold those up that do and have done great or good for us in high regard.

which is always good but this is not the Cover 2 where Corners run up and make the tackle to keep everything in front of them

No. I'm saying our corners aren't as bad as some here make them out to be.
The NFL is roughly a 60% percent passing league. Meaning most any team we face is going to complete a minimum of 60% against us. It's by design. That's what the NFL wants. Compounding the problem, we have almost no pass rush. QB's can sit back and take their time and pick us apart. Some of our corner play is poor. But I think the majority of it isn't bad at all. It is what it is in the modern NFL.
As for penalties.... I'm not overly impressed. Vaughn doesn't have much experience. He's learning on the job. Bills 1st round rookie Stephan Gilmore has even more penalties? You think the Colts wouldn't like him?
I think there's way too much hysteria around here by posters who should know better by now...

we actually have the 9th most sacks in the league with 32, But Gilmore does have 11 penalties yes but he has also first round talent, Vaughn went undrafted....Im just saying I want the best possible talent and in my opinion Vaughn has not shown it

I went to both the Colts.com stats section and the NFL.com stats section.
Turns out, we do NOT have 32 sacks. We've given up 32 sacks. Luck has been sacked 32 times. The Colts defense has recorded just 24 sacks. Less than 2 a game. I don't know where that ranks. Mathis has 7 of them. Hughes as 4. No one else has more than 2.
Not blaming you. Just noting that the stats have a glitch in them and that they're wrong.

I really do not like Vaughn, he is mediocre at best. That's not the thing that makes me not like him, it's the celebrating on EVERY play. He will be burned and reciever drops the pass, but this guy thinks he just made the play of the year and starts jumping up and down, waving his hands. THAT is what bothers me the most about him.
I'm not going to make * statements, like "I could have made that pick" and stuff to that degree, give the guy credit he had a few good plays last game, but this still doesn't make up for most of his plays.
Everyone was "happy" when Powers went down, Powers is 10xs the DB as Vaughn.

Meh Powers does not draw penalties like Vaughn has but his cover skills are not much better

True, but he did recognize Locker's telegraph an made it count. To me, it was the two huge plays AFTER the pick six that Vaughn made that was awesome. No doubt he was energized after that pick 6 and used it to fuel his continued play afterward.
"As much as people talk about his football IQ, I think it's still underestimated. I've never met a guy like Andrew Luck at this stage of the game.”

Hopefully he and Butler can continue to make positive strides in this defense and get even better by next season.
