to...the New Orleans Pelicans

I understand the significance that Louisiana is the Pelican state and that the owner owns the rights to the name, due to having a minor league baseball team who were called the Pelicans. I can see the name being ok for a baseball team, but a basketball team called the Pelicans just doesn't seem right to me..

I think they should be given back the name Jazz, which was kept by Utah, when the team moved from New Orleans, and have Utah come up with their own new nickname...New Orleans is known for jazz..and that would be the best name for that team..

Any thoughts?

Proud to be a Colts fan this, and every year. Thank you for the great season!

How can you go from Hornets to Pelicans? If it's already the state bird, can the city Bureau of Tourism sue the NBA team for state trademark infringement too? Just Kidding!!!

Hornets are tough & their stings pack a punch, but pelicans do not instill toughness at all. Who is your mascot Nigel from the Pixar/Disney movie "Finding Nemo?" :funny: haha

Any thoughts?

Obvious answer - trade! "Lets welcome, the "Utah Pelicans".

Makes about as much sense as New Orleans Hornets, or Utah Jazz for that matter. New Orleans Jazz was perfect, it should have stayed with the city. How about the "Utah Fighting Mormons".

I didn't say that they were good thoughts.

Krewe wouldn't be so bad...it sounds like Crew...and that's basically what a team is, and it has Mardi Gras significance...

I can see it now..someone asks a big time superstar..who do you play for..and they say Pelicans...Can you imagine Kobe or Lebron saying..I'm proud to be a Pelican???

give me a break...ughhhhhh

When a player on that basketball squad does a signature move, what's it called? "A pelican drop" or "Incoming!"

If you have a live pelican as a mascot at NBA games will you have to have a DNR official present & the Center For Disease Control [CDC] on speed dial just in case there is an outbreak of bird flu?

Only Teasing of course! My sarcasm is in overdrive now. haha

If another NBA team played a prank, stole the pelican from it's usual location, & the bird died, how would Commissioner David Stern hand down punishment? What would be considered punitive damages anyway?

Hey, college teams play pranks all the time, why not NBA players man? :D

If a pelicans fan "flips the bird" to the opposition can they get ejected from the game for "taunting" or "unsportsman like conduct? Just Kidding!!!

What does the team do on family appreciation night? Hand out t-shirts, foam fingers, mugs, bird seed, & fish samples gift bags to all ticket holders that night?

The best part of this is that there is speculation that MJ wants to dump the name Bobcats and reinvigorate the franchise by resurrecting the Charlotte Hornets. I would love to see that. Images of those 90's starter jackets with the hornets are all coming back to me lol.

If the team has a horrible game or season, will the fans violently scream "What the Pelican is going on here God darn it!" Only Teasing of course.
