Per one Phil B.'s twitter I think (I was driving and didn't hear it clearly) that the NFL has fined six players for hits on Luck and he suspects Mayo's fine is coming.

Also reported that Justin Anderson has been activated and TE Kyle Miller has been waived as well as signing a CB to the practice squad. I didn't catch his name.

I'm not excited about Anderson, based on what I've seen and read. But hopefully he can make something happen.

I think he meant 6 total players, not necessarily all Patriots players. Knighton was fined $25,000 it appears for his hit on Luck on the play where Luck's pass was intercepted by Ross and the interception was nullified by the penalty. I don't see where the player (can't remember who it was) that hit Luck when he slid. I hope that doesn't draw a fine. I can see the penalty definitely but there was no malicious intent so I hope that player doesn't get fined. It was a stupid play but he realized it and apologized to Luck

I think it encouraging that they activated him. I'm with you on the scouting reports , they are all terrible. However , Grigson says he has the feet of a good LT and if he developes , he will be a joke of a steal in round 7. He really is a " raw" player as he spent time at Georgia playing defense. Boom - bust type player that really has no "bust" considering we only used a 7thon him.

i expect arrington to fined for his attempted wussy cheap shot on luck...even phil simms seemed to think arrington made it obvious.

If we're talking about the same play, then I disagree about deserving the fine. Yes it was a stupid play and it drew a penalty, which was justified. However, imo it was not worthy of a fine. In the replay it looked very clear that he did everything he could to avoid contact to Luck's head, and it looked more like shoulder to shoulder to me. There was certainly no intent to injure or anything like that. It was a dumb play and against the rules, since Luck had given himself up with the slide and therefore deserved the penalty. A fine for that play though is over the top and unnecessary, in my opinion.

Just said six players but he did say he thinks Mayo's fine is coming which would lead me to think that these were six players outside of the Pats game. They wouldn't announce fines for everyone but one guy. There was a story on espn.com on Sunday morning about Arians saying he was tired of the cheap shots on Luck so it's to me like the league looked into it and agreed with him and went back and issued these fines after that.

I agree the return game has been subpar but really Sunday was the first time all year that the coverage units had problems so I would be careful about over correcting those in response to one game.

If we're talking about the same play, then I disagree about deserving the fine. Yes it was a stupid play and it drew a penalty, which was justified. However, imo it was not worthy of a fine. he did very little to avoid it imo. 1.once he goes int slide mode it's over 2) it's not just the head, it's the whole neck head area

when it comes to qb's and defenseless receivers the guys have to be way more careful...and obviously they're not getting the message. that was just so easy to avoid.

I highly doubt that a coach could make a comment and the NFL goes back to issue fines. I would say the 6 would precede anything from the Patriots game, so Mayo is likely # 7.

I agree 100% FJC with your claim my friend. I just wish that more NFL zebras would call more fines on offensive players who commit penalties against defensive players myself. Often times, the offense gets way to pampered for my tastes. Do these offensive players want milk, cookies, and a bedtime story too?

it's because for the last 20 or so years defensive players started targeting the head. the nfl always had some players that did that, but imo, it had gotten out of hand. you had sub 200lb corners head hunting.

but i agree to an extent...the nfl should do more when it comes to cut blocking by offensive linemen.

My comment is more about the refs on the field than Merton Hanks. Some of the "flags" have been questionable, and I have seen some vets hit far worse and not even have a flag thrown.

So the flags on the field lead to the fines that come with them.

Of course, that disagreement could easily be based on the amount of football watched each week. I've just seen Luck get calls that others haven't.

I agree with your premise BloodontheTRACKS,but if they are defensive players are restricted from head hunting, they start targeting the knees & lower body of offensive players next. Equally as bad or worse if you ask me. I have no solution here, but if a players head is targeted, you might actually see it coming before the collision occurs at least...The body can brace itself for impact.

Most things I see now are pretty harmless hits to the QB, relatively.

With concussions the NFL is just trying to protect themselves from more lawsuits.

And depending on what player it is like a pro bowl caliber player getting fined 25 grand, that is chump change for the player.

Mostly just a waste of time, and the refs shouldn't be so flag happy for any kind of hit to the QB.

Like Joker has said many times, & he is exactly right, Roger Goodell & the NFL are using all this talk about play safety/new helmet design research etc. seems meant to distract the public & prevent NFL players from filing class action lawsuits against the league for sustained memory loss issues as a result of concussion problems. Safety vs profit & profit wins hands down every single time. Just my 2 anyway.

I guess you could make the counter argument that all players know the risks involved & they are well compensated for their on the field occupational contributions I guess. It's like smokers. Light up as often as you want, but don't cry me a river & expect people to save your caboose from a painful demise once you contract lung or throat cancer right? Point taken...

i don't agree with that at all. lowering the head or moving it to the side a couple inches is not a big deal when the offensive player is in a defenseless position....and that is the only time they are protected. even ted brushi, a hard nose player in his day, said the same thing on espn radio today. i know a lot of defensive players will rant and rave, but they will adjust and the game will be fine. i remember when players acted like it was impossible for a pass rusher to pull up under 3-4 steps....now they magically do it fine.

I always laugh when I hear someone say "Can you imagine what the NFL & the zebras would do if Deacon Jones played today with his headslap technique?"

Referees would throw their shoulders out tossing yellow flags. Deacon Jones, by today's standards, would be expelled & exiled from the NFL.
