Can the castaway corner be a permanent starter and a productive one too. Or is he going to be hitting to NFL job hunt circuit again.

BB is doing the same thing with Talib. This game could decide both of their futures.

well, he's the best corner on our team right now. i'd say give him this season and see how he goes. if in the next 7 games, he can get around 15 tackles, 3 ints, ( one of them a game sealer), and 20 pass deflections, he will be our starter for years to come

He needs to have a good game against a good passing team to earn my praise. Anyone can intercept Blaine gabbert.i don't expect our secondary to do good today, I hope I'm wrong.

I'll reserve my opinions on him until he has a few games under his belt. He had a great game against a bad Jacksonville team. I do like the fact that he doesn't seem to be allergic to interceptions and fumbles like some of our other players.

He brings an element to our team that we have not seen in a while at the CB position.... aggression... a player willing to take a chance jumping a route. i think he will be good here and will make some plays and i am sure some will cost us. but the film will show we have a DB that will go after the ball.

I have no problem with him being burned on occasion while being aggressive(thats happens to playmakers from time to time), its a whole lot better then being dinked and dunked all the way down the field for a slow agonizing death that raises my blood pressure after every completion

I hope Butler pans out for us, because Vontae hasn't so far and Powers is on IR after not playing well for most of the year.... Silver lining is that Powers will probably be cheap to resign next year and Vontae still has as much potential as any corner that will be available by the time our 2nd round pick comes for 2013 (have to admit it looks like a potential bad trade ATM, though)... but If Butler balls out in a big way, an optimist might be able to credibly say that we are coming in to 2013 deeper at corner than a lot of other teams....

I disagree, vontae Davis is def. Our best corner. Unless you're talking about corners that aren't injured. Then I'd agree with you

Yeah, I agree with. But we need to see more of Davis. BTW, being the Colts best corner is like being the best looking person over 100. It's all relative.

you have to draft them high in the draft. revis, cromartie, peterson, haden, bailey were all 1st round picks most gm's just don't like drafting cb's high.

I saw this coming to Butler. I kept remembering what Peyton Manning did to Jason David when he played him. He tore him apart and fully expected Brady to do the same to Butler today.
Thank You Peyton! I look forward to the day you come home and we get to do this good bye thing right!

It wasn't just Butler who looked bad on the defense, the whole defense looked bad. Gameplan, did we make one today and practice anything cause it looked awful. No creativity and freeney and Mathis both played today. We got vanilla, standard play calls. I'm most disappointed in Freeney and Mathis lack of effort today than I am with a cb who has been her a few weeks. That dline was stoned by 2 back ups on the pats oline today. 19 million wasted for certain.

Nope it wasn't just Butler. The defense as a whole is a work in progress but we knew that coming in. We need some play makers on defense. When one player single handled doubles our turnover total for a season in one game that's a clue that the defense just isn't getting the job done in that department.

Butler had a forced fumble today, he got worked some though, but at least he is making plays as well so right now I can live with him as #1 till Vontae returns, Hopefully when that does then our secondary will improve somewhat, even though I haven't thought Vontae has played good yet, hopefully he will break out soon

Can't shine a turd no, but the lack of anything to create pressure while having 2 really special pass rushers on the field against a couple back up olineman is concerning. I don't know much about our defensive coordinator but I do know he was on a couple teams. Score that didn't "stat" well. Maybe this was all there was to be had on the market at the time for a 3-4 team idk. But let's not kid ourselves, the patriots are just heads and shoulders above our capabilities at this moment. Had vonte Davis played, maybe that would have allowed for different safety play and different schemes but I almost feel as though they could have just thrown to Gronk every play and he would be 10 yards open every play. Not really an adjustment there it appeared. That seems to be a problem with coaching.

Again not bailing on the team as we all felt it would take 2-3 seasons to get a real good team together so it's disappointing but not unexpected. Coaching has to improve even with better players added IMO.

Give the guy a break, he started for the first time this season and he had the task of playing against the Patriots, who were in mid-season form.

I have to disagree because Powers probably would've made those tackles at least.

I thought Butler played OK. Not great but OK. When he played man vs Welker, he was more effective, than in zone, IMO.

Because they have to play man to man against what are now taller WRs who jump up and the passing rules are more favorable to the WR these days. So you really have to be good to stop a pass and even then many will get through.

CB are gold today which is why we got Talib regardless of some off field issues.

How many times would he have been burnt on passes? That would outweigh the tackles he may have made.

Are we talking from an injury or play standpoint? When VD was healthy and acclimated to the D, he was playing at a high level. Basically shutting down his side of the field for a couple of games. I am plenty pleased with what he has shown while on the field but disappointed in his ability to stay healthy.

Butler didn`t cover well and tackled even worse. Maybe he can be a slot CB next year.
Freeney is shot and has been for a couple years.
We need some push up the middle too or we will suck on D against Top teams.
Going to need to hit Big Time on next years #1.

Since Butler was burned on most, helped by a over throw here and there, they would've been equal in coverage in my opinion. Powers is the better tackler, Butler has better hands. I hope both improve.

IDK I think I'd want my nickel CB to be a better tackler because they often have to tackle TEs or play run support.

Put a good dline in there and butler looks like a pro bowler but with no pressure and all the time in the world he looks like a scrub. He missed a tackle or two but still did well

Yeah, we are. But luckily, we have Grigson as our GM so maybe we start to bring a few people in.
