We are Upgrading the Site Software: Please read (especially if your log in and display names are different)

In the next week or so, we expect to upgrade our site. You'll still have all the functionality you like, there will be improvements.

  • The content editor will be better and faster
  • Mobile browsing will be better and faster
  • You will be able to mention somebody in a post (for example type @nadine) and that person will receive notification.
  • You'll be able to quote just a portion of a post, rather than the whole post (you'll still be able to quote the whole post as usual as well).
  • The menu structure will be a little different. It will include a new way to find content called activity streams. You'll have the option to create your own so, you can discussions the way you like.

 

We'll all be learning this together and I think it will be just a matter of learning the new functionality, which we can do over time.

 

The one thing I wanted to flag for you is this. We will not longer have separate login and display names. If you have changed your display name over time, this will affect you.

 

When we change, log in with your current display name. If you've forgotten it, you can request it be emailed to you. So be sure your email address is current (you have access to it)

 

I cannot tell you how many times people have lost access to their account because they cannot remember what email address they used.

In other words, if you have been logging in with a name different from what your current display name is......you will not do that any more

 

your log in name will be your current display name

Thank you for the heads up. I realized something was different because I had to type in my username and password when I logged in. In the past, the site "remembered" my username and password and therefore, I did not have to enter it. That was convenient because I often forget the passwords that I use. Thankfully I remembered my password for this site.

After the upgrades and changes have been made, will the site "remember" our usernames and passwords as it did in the past?

We have not made any changes yet.  If you cleared your cookies out, the site will ask you to log in again.  Otherwise, it stays logged in if you have set it to do that

The main thing to remember is you need to have a valid email address and you need to know what email address that is should you have problems logging in after we've made changes.

 

I expect that if you are using your twitter or facebook accounts to log in that you'll be fine.

 

We expect to just move everything to the new platform.

 

It's a nice upgrade, I'm excited about it.
