Andrew Luck's talent is being wasted

Posted by John242, 03 December 2013 · 1243 views

The Colts have won games over the last two seasons on the back of Andrew Luck. In order to realize how bad the coaching staff and gm are, all you have to do is look at successful franchises. San Francisco, Seattle and New England are better coached and better managed. The difference between the Colts and the franchises just mentioned is immense. Andrew Luck's talent is being wasted by bad play calls, a mediocre defense, and bad molves by the GM. It is incredible that Trent Richardson was acquired for a first round pick when there was no evidence that he was or would become a great running back. He is terrible. That kind of huge error is indicative of how badly the Cols are being managed. The Seattle Seahawks have gotten undrafted free agents and made them all pros. The 49ers have taken guys late in the draft who have become stars. The coltsd management is picking bad players. The only reason the Colts are leading their division is because Andrew Luck has carried them. However he cannot carry them going forward. The bad decisions by management are adding up. I think Pagano and the gm need to be fired now before it gets worse. If you look at the play calling for Russel Wilson when compared to Luck you will find that the Sea Hawks offense is much more dynamic. If Luck had the offensive coordinator that Wilson has, he would be throwing lots of touch down passes. Bruce Aryon was a way better OC than the current OC. The Colts are in trouble because of bad coaching and bad management. Fire Pagano and fire the GM now before it gets worse next year. Other wise Luck will have a bad year next year because of the coaching staff's incompetence and the GMs bad moves.

Compare Pagano to Bellechick, John Harbaugh, Pete Carrol, Jim Harbaug,. Paganmo is not as good a coach. In order for Indy and Luck to win super bowls, they need a great coach. They currently dont have one . Luck is essentially doing everything. Seattle, San Fran, New England, are all better managed. If Jim Irsay was smart he would get rid of Pagano and Ryan the GM. Anybody who would give up a first rounder for Richardson after wtaching the film is a fool. Richardson has never shown greatness. He is a below average back. Luck has no weapons and Wayne is getting older by the day. TY Hilton and Fleener are pathetic. I dont see the Colts beating Seattle, San Fran, Green Bay, New England anytime in the next couple years until they get a new coach and a new GM. They stupidly fired Bill Polian and his son and replaced him with an *. The only reason they have won at all is all because of Luck.

The Colts need offensive lineman, big cover corners, a running back, and better wide receivers and tight ends. They need all of that and all they have currently towards that end is Trent Richardson. Having Reggie Wayne next year is too little too late for Luck. Luck needs a top coach to go along with his talent. I believe that the Colts would be a much better team if they had  John Harbaugh or Pete Carroll. I think Luck could be better than Russel Wilson if he had a good coach, a good offensive line, some good wide receivers and a top notch defense. Luck has none of that. I like Pagano personally but I do not believe he is a good coach. He is an average coach who has looked a lot better because of the ntalent of Luck. The Colts shopuld not be trying to recreate Luck's offense at Stanford. That offense was not that dynamic. Instead they should be doing what the Seahawks are doing.

Colts have alot of issues ! GM gambling 1st round picks , but hes done good with the draft , so giving away 1 rd pick and something you good at (drafting) is a head scratcher ! OC cant figure out how to score more then 8 , 11 points , his kicker was a highest scorer in past months ! Cant put together a drive to save his life ! Stubborn and have his head up his butt. HC cant motivate and have team prepared for games other then saying 'stick to the process" , also stubborn with consistently starting garbage players like DHB , Satele, Mcglynn , Richardson . Owner over paying ridiculously on mediocre players and call it "upgrades" like on O line -Im holding my breath every time Luck takes a snap , its like "here we go , is this play gonna be when hes done for the season'' DC allowed one of the worst offenses to blow them out , enough said about that. I really feel bad for A.Luck because these Coaches and GMs are gonna eventually ruin this guy career . This team / organization has so many issues that you would'nt  know where to start . IF  it were me i would run out of the town that man he call himself an OC , and burn that cruddy play book he brought from Stanford , what a freaking joke! , at least DC has made plausible efforts and adjustments , but i would put Pagano as DC as i i believe hes a good DC just not a good HC , and hire Pats OC Josh McDaniel to be HC and assume play calling duties...

The Colts need offensive lineman, big cover corners, a running back, and better wide receivers and tight ends. They need all of that and all they have currently towards that end is Trent Richardson. Having Reggie Wayne next year is too little too late for Luck. Luck needs a top coach to go along with his talent. I understand all of your points but I doubt you were saying all of this prior to the Denver game. At the end of the day, it doesnt matter who you draft or pick up in free agency, you can never anticipate the amount of injuries a team will sustain throughout the course of a season. I mean think about it, this season we have lost our best production from last year at the RB position (Ballard), WR position (Wayne) and TE position (Dwayne Allen). Not to mention we lost a pretty damn good guard in Donald Thomas. Opposing defenses dont repect our pass game because we arent running the ball well. Thats why everybody can just Tee Off on Luck. Trich may not have panned out as the type of runner we all thought he was, but the man does block well and catch out of the back field. I dont believe Pep is the problem because prior to TRich being the starter, NOBODY could stop our run game. Everything will be fine once we get back our key players. This post season will probably be a bust unless our offense pulls a 2012 Ravens and gets hot.

I love watching the Colts but this team is hard to watch I never liked PAGANO and after seeing GRIGSON give a #1 for Richardson I now don't trust him. Irsay is a no nonsense owner and I hope he realizes he made a mistake with Pagano or Luck will never have a chance

I agree with this to a certain degree. The 1st round draft pick gamble was stupid and the offensive play calling is terrible. I just can't put that blame on Pagano. He is a good head coach and he will only improve. The problem lies with Pep Hamilton. He's drawing up the plays and he's calling them. Pagano is giving him alot of space in regards to calling the offense. His college style passing plays and run up the gut attitude will not cut it in the NFL. We need to spread it out with 4 WR and go deep like this team has always had success doing. Trent Richardson is not a HOF running back but I think if he was utilized better, he would have more success. He's quick on his feet in the open field. He has shown some signs of that this year. He needs to receive more screen passes and a couple tosses here and there. Don't fire Pagano, fire Hamilton or atleast light a fire under his butt and force him to alter his offensive play style.

After Looking at the Seahawks dismantle the saints, It has become clear to me how much better the Seahawk's play calling is. The Seahawks have a great offensive coordinator. Pep Hamilton is not a good OC. He is not in the same class as the offensive coordinators for the Seahawks or 49ers. He is wasting Luck's talent. The play calling is predictable and it does not keep defenses off balance. Its not all about the run. The Colt's pass plays are predictable and rely too much on Luck hanging in the pocket while he gets hit. The Colts need a new offensive coordinator. In addition their defense is horrendous. The Colts need to get some tall lanky cover corners like the Seahawks so they can shut down opposing team's pass plays. I also think Pagano is not in the same class as the Harbaughs or Pete Carroll or Bellecheck. The Colts need a great great coach in order to win Super Bowls. Pagano is an ok coach but not a great one. Too often the Colts are out schemed to begin the game. Pagano is not preparing the team well. All of the Colt's wins are because of Andrew Luck making big plays. You can tell that Luck has lost confidence in his coaches. The reason the Colts are coming out so flat is because the game planning is poor. The offensive play calling is anticipated by opposing coaches. Luck and the Colts cannot win Super Bowls with Pep Hamilton and Pagano. I am predicting right now that the Colts will have a terrible year next year if they do not fire Hamilton and get rid of Pagano. They are already being outschemed. Opposing teams will be ready for the Colts next year with their predictable bad play calling. I am very concerned about the future of the Colts and Luck. You cannot waste Luck's talent. You only have so many years bto win super bowls. If Luck had the OC fromn the Seahawks, they would be scoring a lot more points and they would not be falling behind. Pagano and Hamilton have to go. I am also concerned about the GM and his bad decisions. The Colts need to cut their losses with Pagano and Hamilton. Irsay should not be stubborn on this or he will waste all of next year and another year of Luck's elgibility to win a super bowl. The 49ers did not fall apart when they lost Crabtree. Reggie Wayne cannot explain all of the Colt's problems. The fact that the Colts started playintg terrible after Wayne's injury is a clear indication that their offense was very one dimensional and predictable. Their offense essentially relies on Luck to sit in the pocket and get hit while he tries to make a play. That is not an offensive scheme but rather a hail mary approach to offense.

The longer you keep Pagano, Pep Hamilton, and Grigson, the longer the Colts will suck. I am predicting next year will be a disaster. Luck is going to get hurt because of the play calling along with the terrible offensive line, Having Andrew Luck drop back again and again with aterrible offensive line is going to get him injured. Pagano is supposed to be a defensive coach and the defense sucks. They are getting killed by average teams like the Rams. If you make a mistake it is better to admit it and make a change. Pagano is not an elite coach and neither is Hamilton and neither is Grigson a great GM. The Richardson deal was *ic. That trade tells you all you need to know about Grigson. I feel very bad for Luck. He is having to carry a bad team with a bad coach and a bad OC and a bad GM. I think the fans need to pressure the Irsay tyo get rid of this regime. Why stick with a medicocre coach like Pegano. Pegano will not win super bowls when he is up against a Harbaugh or a Carroll or a Bellecheck.

I am guaranteeing right now that the Colts are going to be terrible or very mdeiocre next year. All of the teams in the NFL have figured out Pep Hamilton's very predictable unimaginative offense. After an offseason of watching film Hamilton's offense will get destroyed by NFL defenses. In addition Pagano has not coached great defense. When the Rams put up forty with a back up quarterback named Clemens you know your defense is badly coached. Everyone has injuries. The 49ers and Seahawks have a bunch of undrafted and late drafted defensive players who are playing lights out. You cannot use injuries as an excuse. Also talent evaluaters all knew Richardson was not a great back so why did Grigson decide to give away a first round pick for Richardson. That was beyond *ic. Grigson is an *. I dont know anybody who would give up a first round pick for a running back that has underperformed. Nobody even drafts running backs in the first round anymore so why would you give up a first rounder. I really think Grigson is a * who does not have any idea what he is doing. Without Luck Grigson's and Pegano's lack of ability would be evident by now. Luck has covered up their ineptitude.

If you look at Luck you can tell that he has lost confidence in his coaches. Look in his eyes. He does not believe in the play calling. He believes his coaches are allowing him to get killed. They have him drop back time and time again when they cannot protect him. Are Hamilton and Pegano trying to end Luck's career because they sure seem to be doing a great job.

If you are in a hole, you dont keep digging. I like Pegano personally but he is not a good coach nor is Hamilton. Do you think Stanford's offense is sophisticated enough for the NFL? Its not. It is a predictable offense. Bruce Aryons is a way better coach than Pegano. Pegano, Hamilton, and Grigson have to go. The sooner the better.

I think if we're going to be negative about this team, we should be fair about who is being criticized. There is NO reason to give the Defensive coordinator a pass in this and place most of the blame on the offensive coordinator. I'm pretty sure that Colts fans haven't forgotten how the Manning years went...great offensive efficiency, but the DEFENSE really cost them more championships. When the Colts DID win the Super Bowl, it was when the defense came up and played lights out in the playoffs. This allowed the Colts running game to express itself and take them all the way. 29 points was what the Colts scored in the Super Bowl, with a TD from the Defense. This teams offense scored 28 points yesterday and on a Championship caliber defense, that should be enough to win in the NFL. Seriously, the defense gives up over 40 points in two straight road games and NOBODY on this post wants to point out Manusky's ineffectiveness and try to run Pep Hamilton out of town?

I agree the defense is horrendous but I cant give the offense a break. We need a much better defense but Pegano is supposed to be a defensive coach. He has failed as a defnsive coach. Compare the Colts to the Seahawks or the 49ers or the Panthers. However even if the defense was better the OC is putting Luck in jeopardy. He is bgetting killed. The offense reminds me of The chicago Bears under Lovie Smith. They simply have luck drop back and get killled. The simply ask Luck to drop back and make a huge play. There are not enough bootlegs and they are not protecting Luck. In addition none of the receivers are getting separation. You cannot rest the whole fortunes of the team on Reggie Wayne. The Seahawks are winning with fourth fifth and sixth rounders. It was a very costly mistake giving up a 1st rpound pick for Richardson. Nobody takes running backs in the first round anymore. I really believe that Pegano should be fiired along with Hamilton and Grigson. Grigson's deciusion to get Richardson was so bad that he has to be fired.Anybody who would make that trade for a first rounder is not competent going forward. They need to clean house. Maybe they could get Nick Sabine to leave Alabama and come to NFL. He can really coach defense. Maybe they could then bring in new offensive coordinator. Maybe they could hire an OC assistant from the Seahawks. I think next year is going to be a disaster. You cannot run a vanilla Stanford offense in NFL.

Fire Grigson,Pagano, and Pepto bismo this trio is a joke, the Colts should

be able to pick and choose any and all GMs,Head Coach,OC.

Who wouldn't want to work with a Great Young QB like Andrew Luck so finding new staff shouldn't be a problem, These three are so overmatched

they look like fools but Worse they make the COLTS LOOK LIKE FOOLS.

Everyone has injuries, good coaches and staff adjust these guys take

5 weeks to get it. See Reed,DHB,Richardson. Pagano cleary has lost control unless SHOW OFF football is on purpose. This Staff can be summed up with one word INEPT. Irsay please take note.

It's official, after reading these comments, Indy is still a basketball town!   Gee wiz, we're in the final eight in rebuilding years, we suck....off with their heads!  Abandon ship!  Broken arrow!   I love you guys saying we need to be as good as the teams we beat....that's really a classic.  Harken back to when ALL the critics assured us the Redskins would be better than the Colts right away with RGIII because the team was so full of talent and the Colts had none.  Perspective is a priceless thing.  I remember when the Colts really sucked but most of you were Cowboy and 49ers fan back then....TROLLS!

Growing up a colts fan in buffalo you develop an appreciation for what the team does. wacthing the bills and many other bottom teir teams draft busts, retain horrible coaches, keep using gameplans that are easily exploited and failing to spend to get the players/ coaches that may help, i don't think we should bite the GM, HC, or OC's heads of for a season that ended with at least 1 playoff win. this team could still will a ring this year. maybe wait until the seasons over to judge them? Yes i fed the trolls.

If Andrew lucks talent is being wasted do you think he would be in the playoffs and It seems like you haven't played the game of football because you would know that one person cant win a game by themselves.. and we may not have the best players But the Indianapolis Colts team have the biggest hearts.. as far as depth chart they are the underdogs but guess what they beat the Chiefs in the playoffs from a 28 point deficit. yeah the colts should not be behind by 28 points but this team has been tested and if you watch them closely they do not give up At all..saying Andrew Lucks talent is being wasted contradicts itself he made a 2 and 14 team a 11 and 5 playoff winning team why would a great player want to come in the league spoiled like Russell Wilson or Collin Kapernick not saying they are truly great players but they have probolwers stacked around them like Lincoln logs, wouldnt a great player want to come into the league and play on a crap team and make them a better team and show the league what he is truly made of.. im sick of the newer generation all they don't want Cinderella stories anymore they want teams that dominate in every position..Football is a Cinderella story sport and if you don't like it go and watch Michael Phelps swim a few laps and go play some Golf..

By the way John,  The Vanilla Stanford Offense is typically referred to as the "west coast" offense.  Now I'm not a WCO fan but it has won Super Bowls for the 49ers, Green Bay, Tampa, and probably others I can't think of right now.  Our offense uses a lot of the same plays and lexicon as the traditional WCO but it also has some of it's own wrinkles left over from Arian's offense (mostly the vertical passing pieces and bubble screens) although those can be featured in any offense.  I think the point is more, the power running game we wanted to impose upon our opponents just didn't work.  I believe you have to match you strategy to your personnel and we don't have power running personnel.  Every time we run our hurry up offense we seem to be very successful.  This puts the ball in the hands of our most talented people (Luck) and masks some of the deficiencies in O-Line.  I'd agree we stuck with that too long but credit the Coaches for making the adjustment.

'possibly' having a re-do on my right eye tomorrow depending on the risk. It is still too far-sighted. I am too young to not have it done with a better script. Hoping it is easy...may have stitches this time with bigger incision.
