Alex Mack?

I heard Colts are still trying to steal Alex Mack away from Cleveland. Word is they are putting an offer together that Cleveland can't or won't try to compete with. Could be smoke but some sources are saying it is very real possibility. Khaled Holmes could slide to guard he played there before with USC....Mack will be VERY expensive....especially if Cleveland won't compete, they have a ton of cap space. Free Agency Frenzy is filled with rumors not sure about this one.

Well, from what i see, there isn't any young quality centers in FA where Luck can develop a relationship with, besides Mack of course.  So we either have to sign Mack or Draft/hope what we have now can step up and be that guy.  The sign costa, but only for 2 yrs/3.5million, so i dunno if we are committed to him or not.  Hope and pray i guess

It's actually 2 years/2.7 million.

I feel that the colts can land mack, they can structure a deal that the browns can and will have to refuse. they will slide costa to a guard position and have a battle at the other guard position. That is what I see.

I kind of think that also, they would have to make Macks contract 5 years or more to spread out the money.  He is 28 years old so should be able to play well through out the entire contract.  Saturday was in his mid to late 30's and still a quality center.  Costa and Holmes in my opinion would perform better in the guard position than at center.  Thomas hopefully healthy should be a better line.  Still need a safety also.  Major Wright is young and a turnover machine.

The Browns are hoping someone signs Mack - they get 2 compensatory 1st round picks next year - picks 33 & 34. I doubt they match any offer. Try a fair, not high offer & see 1st if Mack takes it & if he does, does Cleveland match it.

You're describing the franchise tag. The franchise tag is the one that gives 2 first round picks. Mack had the transition tag used on him.

Compensatory picks are never higher than the end of the 3rd round.  There is no compensation from the signing team for the transaction tag.  The 2 first round picks that you're thinking of are from a franchise tag and they come from the team that signs the player -- the signing team sacrifices their next two first round picks.

Does Mack have to sign the transition tag or is it just automatic?  Cause from the looks of it, he doesn't want to go back.  Can't he just turn it down?

That above makes absolutely no sense.

First of all, the Colts can't steal Mack away from the Browns. The Browns can match any offer. And for the Colts to get him, it will take a deal that would make him one of the highest paid lineman in the game. Crazy money, and it wouldn't be a smart move by the Colts. And it's been a week since free agency started.

So much for your "sources."

Wow!  Maybe you should not be so literal. I realize he cannot be stolen from them and they can match any offer (transition tag).  If you read the post, I also said that it would take a deal that the Browns would not want to match, which would be a crazy offer!  I also talked about it possibly being smoke, and that free agency filled with rumors, I NEVER said it would be a smart move by the Colts.  If all you do is go around and correct peoples posts then maybe you should actually read them before you respond.  I thought us Colts fans were more intelligent than that, but I guess there is one of YOU in every bunch.

LUck gets hit to much, and sacked to often. If he wasn't so strong there would be a lot more sacks.Peyton was a tough QB but got beat up because we never had a great O-line. Get Luck alex mack keep the man upright so he and the running backs can do their jobs.

They do need a upgrade......Brian De La Puente, Ryan Wendell, or short term Johnathan Goodwin, draft another and groom Khaled Holmes for a couple years, because Costa is NOT the answer.  Sick of seeing Luck run for is life back there.......Grigs needs to do the right thing and protect the most important player on our team......He goes down and every other player we signed is just a waste of money!
