A look at the Colts draft

2nd RD: Jack Mewhart-6'6-315-OL....... Very versatile linemen from Ohio St, started out as a Guard, played left tackle, even has some experience at Center (high school) typical big ten player... tough- old school mentality, was a team captain and had a very good week of workouts at the Senior bowl.....with many years of lackluster O-line play, he will be thrown into the mix for a chance to be a starter

3rd RD: Donte Moncrief-6'2-226-WR.....was rated as high as a borderline first rounder and on paper ,he is, outstanding size , with very good speed, decent blocker, will make the tough catches over the middle, has all the physical tools to be elite, needs to fine tune his game......was very productive receiver at Mississippi

5th RD: Jonathan Newsome-6'3-247-DE/OLB....has played DE in a 4-3 and OLB in a 3-4 at Ball St........is a pass rushing type, who will probably be used in nickle situations, at first

6th RD: Andrew Jackson-6'1-259-ILB....3 time all-conference at Western Kentucky, is a perfect physical fit for a run stopping ILB, weighing in at almost 260 lbs, big time hitter.....was 2nd rated ILB in the country the previous season....not sure where he fits in a rotation that already includes Freemen-Jackson-McNary and Sheppard

7th RD: Ulrick John-6'8-290-OL....another versatile linemen, has played Guard and Tackle.... 2 time All-conference at Georgia St.

The Colts signed 20 undrafted free agents, a few that stood out:

CB-Loucheiz Purifoy-6'0-191-Florida....was rated by most as a 2nd-3rd rounder, some even rated him as a possible 1st rounder, very talented player, who's ability and measurables don't always translate to the field and has a history off field issues....big hitter who also excels on special teams

NT-Zach Kerr-6'2-334..protypical NT, team captain, played for Delaware

RB-Zurlon Tipton-6'0-221...powerfull, tough runner, team captain, who played at Central Michigan

TE-Erik Swoope-6'5-220....another where-did-he-come-from project, was a basketball player at Miami, who has drawn raves already with his physical tools and makeup, never played football, is trying to become the next ex-basketball player- turned great TE

C- Jonatthan Harrison-6'4-304...team captain, has also played Guard, played at Florida

T- Josh Walker-6'5-323.....team captain, played at Tennesee St.

K- Cody Parker-6'0-190...very powerfull kicking leg, one of the top Kickers available

With the trading of the #1 pick, for Richardson ( and other trades) the Colts did not have many selections this year, most have given the Colts low marks for their picks, but it always takes a few years to really grade a draft class, I like the picks, based on what I have read, although I didn't view all of therm as need areas...apparantly the Colts are content with the Safeties they currently have, an area many felt would be addressed and wasn't .....2 things that stood out were, many were team captains, something I have noticed in the past, a good trait-to provide leadership and all around quality players and people.....and a theme that seems to be more common, each year...many of these players, have had off field issues, some grow up and some , never do

Thanks again Colts7.  Your insights are well appreciated!  I too noticed that - team captain, good leadership quality!

Anyone know when the open house mini camp at lucas oil will be?

I don't think they've announced that yet

According to Kevin Bowen a public practice has not been set at Lucus and it is highly doubtful there will be one.

I am looking forward to seeing Tipton get some touches.  Some people did not know a guy by the name of Edge when he got here.  :)

OK...I am in no way comparing the two.  I am not insane...OK...that is debatable.  :)
